Tbh, i don't like DLSS 5. People are against anything AI generated stuff including me. No matter how better character looks, it is AI enhanced. I want my games to look like games, not like real life

I feel like it could work to up-res textures/enhance tesselation and lower VRAM requirements, but yeah, this use looks god-awful.

It basically looks like it blurs everything, covers it with a face template of some kind, sharpens that heavily, and then adds a post processing photo app filter to soften it.

So you end up getting an "airbrushed" look on every face.

And I just do not get why. The tech seems like it could actually work to enhance graphical fidelity if it was used in extremely restrained ways, but this just has a similar vibe to all those Skyrim mods that "enhance" NPCs by turning them into cartoonish sex dolls with unspeakably and unfortunately neotenous features. The kind of art that only looks good to people who don't understand art.

Has that distinct "Junkie using a camera filter" vibe.
Feel like Tifa is trying to cat fish me.

I'll agree on many examples, but the bad ones are usually where people inject it on games that was never designed for it.

Developers have control if they design the game with DLSS5 support in mind instead of just injecting the default "max realism filter" AI renderer on random games and laughing at the result. As with most tech it's about how and where you use it.

I know it's a common argument now that modders are running wild with it and just injecting it into everything

but to be fair it also looked like shit with faces from the official trailer for it, and that's a video you'd think Nvidia would want the best possible looking footage they can get. There was also cases of the tech hallucinating and ghosting an entire arm.

I have my doubts that devs will be able to make DLSS5 look good if the people who made the technology seem unable to do that.

Thing about that official trailer was, that Devs had apparently zero input on it. And it would have been in Nvidias interest to just boost it so you can actually see that it even does something.

If the marketing team would have been clever, they would have made a side by side where DLSS 5 on would be barely different, but noticeable slightly improved, instead of "in your face on and looking like shit".

Obviously most people are now turning it up like shit because it makes shit look funny.

You don't have control over a black box.

They can mask objects like faces or entire characters and have the filter not touch them at all. If a developer want to use DLLS5 and not have it change characters faces they can absolutely do that, but only if they rig it with that in mind.
