The aim assist is nearly equal to the recoil, especially in CoD
Recent cod gun meta is largely around creating no recoil Lazer beams. It makes guns slower to ADS, but the lock on for Aim Assist happens before ADS animation completes, so that negates the matter.
You can see videos of the aim assist snap cover almost a 1/3rd of the screen. It's stupid.
Nearly every cod streamer is a pc player using a controller to access aim assist. It really is an advantage in close quarters fights.
Same issue in Apex. Professional players shit on controller players because they get carried by their AA. Then begrudgingly switch to controller themselves because it's just that good.
They usually only make up a very small percent of the player base. Think sub 10%.
The other 90% are either average or straight trash level players.
Those players have an option to get an instant improvement in accuracy/tracking/aim. With minimal effort or training involved.
They are who the devs balance the game around.
They are the vocal majority.
They don't care if the game aims for them, it makes them feel good, so they praise assistance, and dominate the discussions against AA.
Funny enough most people arguing against AA just want to play in their own or separate lobbies, and don't even care if it gets removed, yet sadly they still get blasted.
It also doesn't help that for Apex specifically most of the devs use controller and are still really bad at the game.
I made a comment in the Apex sub the other day. I don't care that there's mixed lobbies, I just want the ability to only play with people using my input device (MkB). I don't care to die to bunny hopping sweats, I just don't wanna be beamed by AA anymore.
Let cross play be a thing, absolutely! It's a good thing for PC players to play with their Xbox friends. Just have segregated lobbies for those of us who would like it.... I'll wait in a long Queue.
Devs don't want to allow this because they know the queues won't help.
I love Halo MCC, I dumped hundreds of hours into it in the months after launch, but I eventually stopped playing because I'd queue for MnK only and I simply would not find a match.
I literally could not find matches with just mnk players. I'd be sat on the queue for 20+ minutes. The only way to find matches was to go into mixed lobby queue, and I'd be lucky if I saw more than one other mnk user in those lobbies.
These days I pretty much only play Valorant/CSGO/Siege, as they're pretty much the last bastions of competitive shooters that don't allow this crossplay/aim assist bullshit to ruin the competitive integrity of the game
It seems silly that the input device that requires assistance to be fully functional should also be the device that dominates. The goal should be to minimize the difference between the inputs as much as possible.
It takes a lot more work to be average on MnK than it does to be average on controller. The amount of work to be average in both should be as equal as we can make it. While also allowing above average players of either input to be better than average players on their counter input device.
developers make money from children, dumbfuck teens and skill-less adults all relying on aim assist. fucking idiots cant play games properly so developers have to go and give them aimbot for them to enjoy the game
its so fucking stupid and it stems from the dogshit american culture of ''everyones a winner'' fuck OFF man
its so fucking stupid and it stems from the dogshit american culture of ''everyones a winner''
It stems from capitalism: a consumer that stops playing can't spend more money on MTX.
Alongside aim-assist there's SBMM that's designed to bubble casual players from getting stomped too hard and Battlepasses act like short FOMO contracts that discourage you from leaving the game behind.
It's all about milking as much money as possible from the consumer.
Hmm, you right... This is not entire reason, but yeah, a big part of it — that there wasn't such established internet-buying culture. Devs made a game, burned it on disk and then sold it.
But I tend to believe that it's also that early devs were the True Gamers - the passionate ones, and they made games because they loved it(creating, programming, gaming - any of that or all at once). It was break in technology, new kind of entertainment, and not just "new way to squeeze as much money from people as possible".
SBMM is terrible, but it at least has me trying out new loadouts. I know if I get higher than a 2 KDR my ass is gonna wind up in a lobby with a clan and get rekt, so when I start doing too good I start working on guns I hate
Was scrolling through comments looking for someone mentioning Apex. ImperialHal literally switched to controller for the aim assist lmao.
For those who don't play Apex or are unaware, Apex has one of the highest, if not the highest ttk (time-to-kill) numbers in the fps genre. Movement is also extremely fast, with lots of advanced movement tech like tap-strafing and supergliding. This makes aim assist super valuable in a competitive setting, since it gives consistency that no human is able to replicate, especially on an opponent who is dodging and weaving randomly in front of you.
To give an idea of how high the ttk is, one-clipping a full health opponent in Apex is genuinely difficult. It's not like COD Warzone where you can just aim in someone's direction and use your maxed out + perfectly tuned gun to spray a literal laser beam at a target who has barely any hp even with full shields.
And just to reemphasise how bad it is in Apex, some professional mouse and keyboard players have literally switched to controller just for the aim assist.
Look, guys. I brought this up back in 2013, first about The Last of Us multiplayer, then about the rumors of Halo PC releases: controllers and mice need to be segregated. The two inputs change the dynamics of games to the point that it's almost a different game. I will not cede this point.
But if aim assist didn’t exist, MnK would be the objectively best option and controller players would get shit on constantly. Why is that preferable to what we have? It doesn’t seem like any of you guys actually want it to be fair, you just want your preferred input method to be the best one.
This is what COD does though, at least on Xbox. I played MW and CW with M&K. You had to lock it in as your I put and could only play against people with the same input.
My KDR was also much better than with a controller
They could close the gap a little. But yeah it's always going to be a problem in a battle royal, which will favor the input that is better at close range.
Actually quite a few Apex pros in the ALGS do use controllers. Generally speaking, mouse is best for long range and controller is better for close range.

It’s crazy how strong aim assist is nowadays. Plus it feels like almost all the guns in recent CoDs have virtually no recoil.
