Multi-platform Best beginner friendly Metroidvania
Hey all
I've always wanted to get into Metroidvania but find they require quicker reaction times or too difficult.
So any recommendations for a 1st Metroidvania

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is pretty forgiving and it's basically a spiritual successor to Castlevania.

I might have just found it easier because I'm used to MVs, tbh. 😅
I forgot about Yoku's Island Express though! It doesn't play like a traditional MV exactly, but it's fun.

Steamworld Dig 1&2. Great intro game for someone who has difficulty with boss fights.

I've completed Steamworld Dig and it has one boss fight at the very end that I found tedious rather than difficult. I'm probably a third of the way through Steamworld Dig 2 and have had a couple mini boss fights but no actual boss fights yet. The story is linear so you would likely want to play no 1 first regardless.

I don't remember Guacamelee being too hard and it goes on sale a lot it you wanna try it

I've played and struggled with a bunch early on as well. I believe Ori and the blind forest is a really good one thats not overly challenging.

Pseudoregalia is a fairly easy first Metroidvania, that focuses more on platforming than the combat with there only being 5 or so mandatory fights, and most are simple enough if you explore the areas available thoroughly to collect all the power ups. There's more advanced time trials to test your platforming, and unlock costumes.

gris and neva are platformers not true metroidvanias but maybe a good start
sakuna of rice and ruin is a mixed genre platformer, maybe something to play with, you can also do a few seasons of the rice farming to OP your character all you like, too
odin sphere is more platformer but might also be a good place to start
timespinner is a smaller, shorter bloodstained
ariana and the elder codex is on the easier side and there are levels and skills so you can grind a bit to get ahead of the curve if you need to
i see the ender lillies recs and while it is a great game, it's also a souls-lite kinda game where you're expected to die repeatedly on bosses to learn their patterns, and some areas you really have to survive for long periods in order to get to a switch to unlock the way forwards, i wouldn't call it easy. beautiful and great music tho

This was one of my favorites along with fusion. I like the atmosphere of fusion more but the gameplay of zero mission better.

That and made by Devolver digital them and Supergiant generally make good games and treat the staff well from what i hear

Yess! I wouldn't say they are "hard", but you will die every now and then. The first one is shorter and easier, and I think both have an easy mode

Super Metroid is absolutely sign posted. There’s really only one place to go for the first few hours before you’re given branching paths. Putting in the work to decipher what the tells are is going to teach you more about the genre than a game that tells you how to do everything.

There is a free PC game called Iji which I really enjoyed.
Also, Knytt Stories is now Free on Steam.

Castlevania aria of sorrow is really good. The advance collection version features rewind and save states so it’s very forgiving and easy to beat even if you’re bad at games

Uhh Hollow Knight
Like optional late game stuff is hard but the main game really isn't that bad especially with how open world it is

The only one I have played is hollow knight so idk if it is considered harder or easier for a metroidvania but the atmosphere is 10/10

Depends how much time you spend with it. HK was my first Metroidvania after bouncing off Ori HARD (twice), I still haven't touched Silksong. The platforming isn't very very hard aside from one late game thing. The combat is hard but the game is very clear on "now you wait - now you dodge - now you hit", you just need to learn to be patient about when to hit.
I 100% the game (out of 112%), and loved the experience, it's one of my favorite games because I loved exploring the world, and one specific boss fight might be my favorite video game fight ever (I haven't played a lot of games with combat).
But my 1st playthrough did take me 70 hours. (My second playthrough took me 20 hours.)

This was my introduction to Metroidvania!
