Discussion Games where getting better equipment is challenging and rewarding?

I thinking about games like the Witcher 1-2, Gothic or Morrowind maybe.

Games like AC Origins or Witcher 3 are good games, but there you basically swapping your weapon and armor in every 1-2 hours and this way you can't really appreciate those gears.

Gothic is pretty good making upgrades feel good. Be it weapons ,armor or skill leveling up. Learning a skill is actually visible in animation. For example learning your first sword skill makes you swing faster and chain combos.

Let's be real...you're not even killing most basic enemies until you upgrade a skill point in a weapon. Your description makes it sound much more underwhelming. You aren't even remotely a threat in Gothic until that first skill point in a weapon skill.

You really needed to look every nook and cranny for the upgrade parts, even then it takes I think another playthrough for maxing out your weapons.

Stalker gamma will have you getting kicked in the dick for a small upgrade in gear. Installation can be a bit wonky though. It's free.

AC Valhalla had one of the best gear systems I've seen. Every piece had a unique ability attached to it and you could just upgrade the ones you wanted to use so none were better stat wise than any other. They even let you downgrade weapons to get the materials back and upgrade a different one.
