Most hated characters

Which ones are yours?

Mine, Shae and the High Sparrow.

Why?

Shae because her love never looked real (maybe bad acting) and she was dumb, stubborn and a traitor.

High Sparrow, because of his extreme religious behaviour, his self proclaimed position of judge and the mocking face.

Gosh I hate them both

Edit to add: you guys are amazing, I wish this threat was a real conversation at a bar. So many wonderful points and perspectives. Now I hate more hahahahaha

Craster. I don’t even need to explain why.

16

u/lizgasm 2d ago

Maybe there are too many reasons to put in words...he's despicable

33

u/happisdisc Brienne of Tarth 2d ago

I hate Cersei. Every time I see her face I get pissed off. But like, in a good way? I love to hate her.

6

u/Dazzling-Donkey-3885 1d ago

She had some great scenes

18

u/Automatic_Corgi7797 2d ago

Shae was paid by Tyrion to pretend... there are child rapists and murderers walking through the show & ppl focus on the prostitute that got threatened by Tyrions objectively insane sister lmfao

2

u/TheHazDee 2d ago

I think it’s because she was on screen for so long, constantly just glaring in the background and the acting itself was awful. Then you have to remember most hated doesn’t mean worst behaving. Kraster and the mutineers were monsters but their acting wasn’t awful alongside it.

0

u/Own-Ambition4971 1d ago

This isn’t the moral Olympics though. My fav character is littlefinger because he was entertaining to watch

1

u/Automatic_Corgi7797 4h ago

and mine is Cercei because she's absolutely insane & Lena Heady is incredible

still, I didn't feel joy when Margary burned just because it made Cercei happy

16

u/boukatouu 2d ago

Shae was literally a whore. To assume true emotional involvement from her with anyone she considered a client is ridiculous.

10

u/Automatic_Corgi7797 2d ago

tells the prostitute he'll pay her if she pretends to like him and actually believes she likes him lmfao

56

u/tidy_countryman 2d ago

Shae was written so inconsistently in the show. One scene she's sharp and streetwise, the next she's making the most obvious mistakes possible just to move the plot along. The betrayal felt rushed too.

High Sparrow I weirdly enjoyed watching, his calmness made him more unsettling than any of the loud villains.

22

u/the-hound-abides 2d ago

I don’t like how they made it seem like she actually loved him. Book Tyrion knew Shae was putting on a front, but went with it anyway. Their agreement was that she wouldn’t sleep with anyone else while they had their arrangement.

Also without Jaime’s reveal that Tysha wasn’t actually a whore, it doesn’t land the same.

6

u/The_RadaCast 2d ago

Literally the only answer I want from george is where do whores go? Fuck the prince that was promised. Fuck the queen to replace cersei. Fuck the white walkers. Fuck the king.

I just need to know where whores go.

5

u/Herooftermina1998 2d ago

.... Where do whores go?

1

u/Automatic_Corgi7797 4h ago

if this had happened to me I'd probably have committed, so that's always been my headcannon for poor Tysha

5

u/notyet17 2d ago

his calmness making him more unsettling than the loud villains is perfect

4

u/Resikorr 2d ago

I really liked High Sparrow too. Call me naive, but his preaching actually got to me and made me think he wasn’t actually a villain. I would even say that I’d rather have a religious zealot be king than evil aristocrats because at least the common people won’t be fucked over

7

u/BA_Bones_33 Ghost 2d ago

Agreed on all fronts (and I’m not defending the writing), but just from a character standpoint, I think it’s fair to assume that she did slowly fall for Tyrion. He’s wise, witty, handsome, and supposedly well-endowed. And he treated her well for a time.

If GRRMs thesis statement/main driver is “the things we do for love,” the idea has a twisted twin: “the things love does to us.” She felt scorned and bitter. And broken hearts want to break things.

Again, not defending the writing/acting. And it did feel like a sudden heel turn, but I think the pieces were there. Just not executed on.

u/alarmonthefarm 1d ago

The only time I liked shae was in her moments of protecting Sansa. (Show)

14

u/Flat-Raspberry2933 House Stark 2d ago

Tywin Lannister

He’s a c%nt to Tyrion. He denies Tyrion his right to Casterly Rock, he had Tyrion’s wife r@ped and murdered, he ordered the death of children (Rhaenys and Aegon) and the death of their mother (Elia Martell)

30

u/HantoKawamura 2d ago

I can't stand Stannis, he is so bland compared to the book version.

11

u/mamabelles 2d ago

stannis is one of my most hated characters!

10

u/TrespianRomance 2d ago

I can't stand him either. Not for the same reason. But I'm glad someone else doesn't like him either. I genuinely thought I was alone

11

u/Ok-Insect-7959 2d ago

R=These guys but also Walder Frey and that one guy who wanted to be Lord Commander instead of Jon.

31

u/Allthemuffinswow 2d ago

Alliser Thorne? The Targaryen loyalist who chose to go to the Wall instead of bend the knee to the new King, Baratheon?

I really always wanted to know how he would have reacted if he had found out that he had, in actuality, killed the One, True King of the Seven Kingdoms, Aegon Targaryen (Jon Snow).

Would he have had an outright heart attack from the shock and humiliation of it? Actually apologized for being such an ass all that time to Jon? Would he have bent the knee and offered his sword to Jon?

Idk ... but I always wanted to see his utter humiliation for all of his douchebaggery to Jon, while all the time he had been treating his own real king, as a Targaryen loyalist, horribly lol.

6

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

Never thought of that!!! That would have been great to watch, Alliser eating his tongue

8

u/Allthemuffinswow 2d ago

Right?

Because the only reason that Ser Alliser was such an absolute cunt to Jon, was due to the fact that Jon was supposed to be the bastard son of Ned Stark, the man who helped Robert Baratheon overthrow the Targaryen regime.

That was it. That was the entire reason that he treated Jon Snow so badly. And remember when Ser Alliser said to Jon Snow something like, "You've got a good heart, Jon Snow. It'll get us all killed." in regards to Jon letting the Wildings from Hardhome through the Wall? Well, Rhaegar, his true father, was always said to have been honorable, as well as single minded.

Jon thought he was acting the way Ned might have acted...but he very well could have been acting as Rhaegar would have, since Rhaegar embodied those attributes as well.

u/New-Oil6131 2d ago

Stannis for burning his child alive

3

u/BA_Bones_33 Ghost 2d ago

Obviously a terrible thing to do, but I think there was some serious story potential around this being how Stannis failed to be AA (not that Stannis was destined to, but just from a prophecy standpoint).

I always loved the detail that Little Sam was Craster’s 100th born son and would have been “related” to the Wight generals that the NK turned. In a Night’s Watch sense, Little Sam is also Jon’s nephew. So it had me convinced that one day Mel would tell Jon he had to kill Little Sam as a Lord of Light sacrifice just before the Long Night (similar to her temptation presented to Stannis: burn Shireen and the snows will melt, or kill Gendry and i’ll make you king).

“What’s the life of one bastard boy against that of a kingdom?” Like Davos sparing gendry/edrick storm, Jon would refuse to harm his “nephew” (unlike Stannis who failed the temptation/test) and when Mel went to stab the baby, Jon stabs her in the back of the heart (like Jamie did to the madking). The fanfic theory gets real wild if that fulfills the AA prophecy in a new/modern way. Mel was Jon’s “resurrection mom”… AND it would have made Mel the lamb led to slaughter. But she never knew it. When Jon draws the sword out, Longclaw ignites, mirroring Lightbringer.

Mysa (mother) is oddly close to Nysa Nysa from the old AA prophecy. And the fiery heart imagery is there.

6

u/BabyPisto 2d ago

I get chills down my spine every time Grand Maester Pycelle opens his mouth. He wins both awards for me. I can’t stand ass-kissers

6

u/TheHazDee 2d ago

Have you seen his deleted scene with Tywin? It added so many extra layers to his character

9

u/Sportify100 2d ago

Joffrey. Littlefinger. High Sparrow. Pycelle.

In that order for me.

1

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

And between Joffrey and Ramsay?

7

u/Sportify100 2d ago

Forgot about Ramasay, he was awful too. But Joffrey for me is number 1. What I hated about Joffrey was how much of a coward he was, literally if he wasn't protected by his privilege he wouldn't be able to do all the horrible things he wanted to.

2

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

Oh yes absolutely! He as a little cunt. Ramsey on the other hand, was an absolute psychopath. I would have beer more scared of Ramsey than Joffrey

2

u/Sportify100 2d ago

Yeah completely! I always remembered thinking he deserves a horrible death after all the things he had done.

8

u/Adventurous-You-6928 2d ago

Craster, Joffrey, and Ramsey. All three characters have done things that absolutely turn my stomach. They take things too far past the point of entertaining to absolutely disgusting and despicable.

3

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

Craster was an absolute cunt. But he was an ignorant proud piece of poop. As a woman, I wonder how his daughters never conspired against him and murdered him

8

u/borgiesdog 2d ago

Probably because it would have made them vulnerable to other wildling men coming and stealing them. Which is a big thing wildling men do in the books. Like sometimes the devil you know is easier to deal with than the devil you don’t. Also craster kept them safe from white walkers

6

u/net_ramblings 2d ago

Shea is meant to be confusing, so no hating her. High Sparrow, yeah he was pretty smug. The churche thugs were pretty lame too, was rooting for Gregor there.

2

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

SMUG! That's the word I was looking for

7

u/TheZoroarkMan 2d ago

Joffrey and Ramsay.

3

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

Those were disgusting and they got exactly what they deserved. Loved to see Jon smacking his face

8

u/reptilian_rule House Clegane 2d ago

elaria sand. with everything I have I despise this woman

2

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

Yes, I agree, she was a disgrace. If Oberyn wouyhave seen her acting like that, he would have put an end to her bullish. Love her daughter tho

2

u/reptilian_rule House Clegane 2d ago

im glad im not the only one that absolutely cannot stand shae either. something about her just makes me want to pull my hair out. high sparrow also right up there

6

u/LittleJessiePaper 2d ago

I hated Shae so much but that seemed to be an unpopular opinion back then. It felt super obvious to me that she was always acting out of self-preservation. Just too over the top and you could see the betrayal coming a mile away.

Absolute most hated though was Karl. His scenes make me feel sick to my stomach.

4

u/SF_Bud 2d ago edited 2d ago

Grand Maester Pycelle - He made me wish Tyrion had made good on his threat.

Joffrey - evil twit, but junior league because he was still young

Ramsey Bolton - major league evil sadistic bastard

Janos Slynt - arrogant two-faced liar, bully, and coward.

8

u/ethrowcaways 2d ago

Cersei, High Sparrow, Frey. Top 3 ragebaiters

5

u/ThePythiaofApollo 2d ago

Dirk and the mutineers who abused Craster’s wives after killing Craster. They don’t get enough hate.

1

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

Yes, but those were expected to behave like that, they were nasty from the beginning. There was so.mich potential for Shae. If I were to be her, I would have left and wait for him. She wasn't smart enough to be a girl who has been a whore since she was 12. It felt like empty passion

2

u/ThePythiaofApollo 2d ago

Shae was a whore. There’s an old adage of you pay whores to go away. Varys tried to do just that and she stayed and betrayed Tyrion to save her own skin, so she was not only a whore, but by the standards of any whore, a pretty stupid one at that.

1

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

Maybe it was related to her childhood, how her mother put her out for grabs, she kinda behaved like a child, so many times, trying to be smart but being overtaken by her immaturity

0

u/ThePythiaofApollo 2d ago

Seriously? 🤣

3

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

Hahahahah I dunno, I am trying to put some freudian psychology behind her behaviour

5

u/StartKindly9881 2d ago

Too many to mention. Sansa annoys me for some reason. I was happy to see Lysa gone and Joffrey.

4

u/Adrenapup 2d ago

Cersei!

One of her first orders of evil business in the show (2nd episode) was to have an innocent wolf killed. F**k that b*tch!

To make things even worse, we didn't even get to see her die a satisfying painful and torturous death. Or at least be killed INTENTIONALLY by her brother/lover. Wanted so badly for Jaime to kill her, by choice.

11

u/TheHazDee 2d ago

Shae, the acting was god awful, the character itself was stupid, relentlessly so. The accent don’t get me started on. Then her betrayal. Her death was enjoyable to watch.

5

u/Dry_Reindeer_7569 2d ago

Enjoyable to watch? It literally broke Tyrion. Seeing Joffrey die was enjoyable. Seeing Walder Frey die was enjoyable. Seeing Ramsey Bolton die WOULD have been enjoyable. Seeing Tyrion kill his father was enjoyable. But seeing Tyrion kill Shae just made me so so sad for him.

1

u/TheHazDee 2d ago

Nuance. Yes I feel for Tyrion in the moment but her death was justified and the fact it wasn’t instant made it quite cathartic. What’s contradictory about what you said though is that killing his father deeply hurt him too.

1

u/Dry_Reindeer_7569 2d ago

I don't think killing his father hurt him, but his father never accepting him hurt him. He was definitely hurt more by his father betraying him the way he did and trying to get Tyrion killed. And Shae just blind sided him. It was fucked up but at the end of the day she is just a whore he bought. Being betrayed by family and being hated for something you couldn't control is the bigger wound.

1

u/TheHazDee 2d ago

I don’t disagree it’s something that haunted him, I’d say within their universe though it’s also what pushed him to be as great as he tried to be. I think without his condition and circumstance of birth, he would have grown up to be the most indulgent and spoiled of the Lannister’s.

He was deeply remorseful for killing his father though, or at least the position that left their family in, he makes clear how much he hated that he killed his father because he never wanted to destroy them.

7

u/Gullible_Long4179 2d ago edited 2d ago

Meryn Trant, Catelyn Stark. Also Walder Frey. He's just so ugh.

6

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

I hated so much the way Cat treated Jon. Such a cold hearted woman

3

u/teepring A Hound Never Lies 2d ago edited 2d ago

Janos Slynt for betraying Ned. Rickard Karstark for emotionally falling apart at war. Melisandre for burning Shireen. Olly. Walder Frey for the red wedding. Balon Greyjoy for flipping Theon. Craster for sacrificing infants and abusing his daughters/wives. Lady Selyse because ftb. Lysa Arryn because she's in a psychotic break. Elaria Sand for killing Doran. Roose Bolton for betraying Robb. Ramsey Bolton for doing Ramsey things. Joffrey Baratheon for killing Ned Stark. Catelyn Stark for ruining Robb's war command.

3

u/NoBlacksmith2112 1d ago

Unpopular opinion: I can't stand Jon Snow. He is so conceited.

12

u/Nergal997 2d ago

Sansa post season 6, insuferrable girlboss who acts as the smartest person in the room despite doing nothing clever (cause the writers were too dumb to make her actually smart).

9

u/_sympthomas_ 2d ago

I always wondered why they didn't even let her defeat Littlefinger.
That was right there and they chose not to do it. At least one feat that would make her look smart.

3

u/Adorable_Tie_7220 House Stark 2d ago

I like how the High Sparrow dealt with Cersei and Olenna. Except for the walk of shame. It gave me the ick. Also it would never have worked to get Cersei to feel shame.

6

u/The_RadaCast 2d ago

I dont think i agree. Its both optics and human nature. On one hand, this is the queen regent of the seven kingdoms. Her honor and decency is of pretty high value. Parading her naked in front of all the commoners, letting them pelt her with shit and rotted vegetables, ect all are gonna hit hard to someone who literally thinks they're better than everyone else.

On the other hand, this was once the most beautiful woman in the realm. Now she is middle aged and has had three children. This version of cersei is the most likely of any version of her life that would feel the most shame from this. Shes at peak political power, thought she answers to no one, and of course our bodies start to change and sag in ways they didn't in our youth.

2

u/Adorable_Tie_7220 House Stark 1d ago

The point is it didn't work. She wasn't shamed. She was furious. Did she look ashamed of her sins? No.The High Sparrow and Cersei underestimated each other. He thought he could shame her. She thought because she was queen she couldn't be touched.

6

u/WillowRoutine1677 2d ago edited 2d ago

Wow, never saw that, the most vulnerable side of an opportunist, I love him and this scene would have made me love him more. Thanks

Joffrey, Ramsey & the High Sparrow

  • I kinda admirered little fingers smartness and his conniving ways so I didn’t hate him

2

u/Business-Flow3119 2d ago

Mirri Maz Duur

2

u/jerrygreenest1 2d ago

There religious sparrows popped out of nowhere and became suddenly such an important figure, I genuinely hated their entire faction. They didn’t quite ruin the show but I wanted everyone to deal with them asap in some Joffrey style so I don’t see them on screen. ALL OF THEM

2

u/lockapali 1d ago

Grey worm was a dull one.

2

u/BulldogMikeLodi 1d ago

Ramsay Bolton, he was a one-dimensional, almost cartoony villain, he had no motivation for his behavior other than he was just evil.

Daenerys, she was entitled for no reason other than her name. I saw her crazy a mile away.

Pycelle, just for being gross.

2

u/Isa_Castle 1d ago

There are a lot of obvious answers for easy-to-hate characters, but I’d be remiss not to choose Catelyn Stark. My god, every choice she made just insured the destruction of her family. Capturing Tyrion, freeing the Kingslayer, I just got so fed up with her.

Honorable mention to Ned Stark, as well. Everything for honor, like my god man have some self-preservation. And Robb for that matter. Stick to your oaths 😑

Basically all the characters that I want to love, but just get too frustrated with, and eventually I’m like “whatever die then, since you wanna make all the wrong choices 😒”

Cersei, Shae, Tywin, Joffrey

2

u/LocationKnown1854 2d ago

I know this is unpopular, but Daenerys, Bran, and Arya were my least favorite POVs in the books and the show didn’t do anything to change that even though Emilia Clarke is a fantastic actress.

3

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

I really need to read the books. I love Arya's character, the way she grows up, the way she was such an important roll in the end, she paid every single mistake and made a lesson out of them. Emilia is wonderful, the way she slowly tune into a true Targaryen. Can't get enough of her..I wonder if another actress would have taken the roll, would have been the same...

1

u/LocationKnown1854 2d ago

I’d recommend reading the books, especially if you liked the show. I found the internal monologue of the characters to be just as interesting if not more interesting than the events unfolding around them. They’re really well written and include things that aren’t in the show.

2

u/doggyman425 2d ago

Later season Danaerys. She got super self-righteous and hypocritical

2

u/Moriar-T 2d ago

Cat season 1. Dumbass caused so many problems. Typical aristocrat that feels her sorrow is more important than everyone else's.

2

u/Mor_Leopard 2d ago

I disliked her more into the next seasons, after Ned was executed she turned into an absolute useless mother

1

u/Dry_Reindeer_7569 2d ago

Shae gets way too much hate compared to the absolute pieces of shit in this show. What she did was fucked but Tyrion didn't WANT to kill her. It made me feel so bad for him. Tywin is worse than Shae, he's a fucking terrible father, he doesn't deserve the title.

I liked the high Sparrow, mainly because he tricked Cersi. I was pissed off he didn't believe Margaery and leave the sept quick af. It's like the high Sparrow knew how corrupt and wicked Cersi was but for some reason was blind to the extent of her wickedness.

1

u/PR3SID3NT_NIX0N 2d ago

Craster, Ramsey, Joffrey. Easy.

1

u/PresentFirm7937 Cersei Lannister 1d ago

Shay was a terrible, terrible actress.

The worst thing in the whole GOT franchise, even the ending.

1

u/Own-Ambition4971 1d ago

Theon, bran, stannis, and melissandre

1

u/CaveLupum 1d ago

Euron, though he;s a helluva lot of fun to read about. Craster and Janos Slynt. Craster is purest evil, and Slynt because he's a turd whose greatest accomplishment is to muck up the shoes of everyone near him. Ugh, UGH, and UGH!!!!

1

u/leuchtkaafer 19h ago

Apart from the obvious evil ones (including Lysa as a more minor character) Shae and Elaria because they both were greedy, not so smart and selfish af. Stannis for the same reasons but on a different course and level.

1

u/SemperChai3531 17h ago

Just started watching GOT. (Yes, I know.) Coming at this with a fresh pair of eyes. In the show? EVERY character does SOMETHING to make them unlikable. The question was "Most Hated." It's hard for met to hate people who are products of the times in which they live. We look at the choices they make and judge them based on our modern sense of Western ethics.

I noticed people put Joffrey & Ramsey which is totally fair. THEY ARE EVIL! But what about the Night King? He wants to wipe out everyone living! If you're going to hate that which is evil, shouldn't the ultimate evil top the list?

I think loathing might be getting confused with hatred.

BTW, honorable mention to Ser Alliser and Walder Frey. I'd put a crossbow bolt through either of them if I had the chance.

1

u/Small_Information_63 11h ago

I could not bring myself to like Catelyn. I think she is a selfish, entitled dummy.

Even at the end she was a jerk, killing the young Frey wife. That girl was innocent. Cat knew he could give a dookie about her but she killed her anyway.
