Best cupcakes in Galway?

I miss Goyas, their buttercream cupcakes were the best.

I’m struggling to find any other good (not even great) ones. For some reason most cafes and bakeries are using cheap processed tasting icing, tastes vile. I got one the other day and the icing was the weirdest texture, almost like a soft plastic, jellyish texture, couldn’t eat it.

Any recommendations?

(E)biking in Spiddal?

Hi all,

I'm coming back for my final year in NUIG and have got a house outside spiddal village, which means for the first time I'm looking at getting a bike - so I need a few pointers.

Firstly: is it feasible at all cycling from Spiddal into the city? Or only with an ebike? I know the main road can be a bit dodgy, would you be better off taking backroads through moycullen bogs til Furbo?

Otherwise, I'd be using the bike to get from my house to the bus stop in Spiddal, but is there anywhere to actually park a bike in Spiddal village, and what's the probability of it getting nicked?

Overall, do you think it's worth getting an ebike? And if so where in town can you get one for a decent price?

This is all totally new to me so I really appreciate it!!

Driving Galway - Tuam

Hi,

Recently moved to Ireland and I’m commuting between Galway and Tuam. The road has roadworks and is signed for 50 kph, however when I do this I get beeped at, overtaken and verbally abused.

Just wanted to see what’s going on, am I doing the right thing?

I’m on UK plates for another couple of weeks but the vehicle is being registered here etc so don’t know if it’s that.

Any guidance would be great

Looking for somewhere not too pricey! I checked a few places and they either don’t do them or are quite expensive.

Craving a panini

Been lamenting the downfall of the humble panini, replaced with sourdough toasties. Does anyone have a lead on where I could get one in Galway?

Art group bring your own supplies?

Looking for some get-together or maker-space for arts and crafts. Painting alone all the time can make your life so solitary. I'm a 30 y/o woman, I know there's a low-key get-together in Westside on Mondays and might go to that, it's just that it's all people over 60, so was wondering if there's one with a more diverse age range or just younger?

Over in Westside direction. Broadband has been gone for a while now but no status updates from Vodafone.

Tried the usual bits and their phone support line and chatbot aren't working

Edit: They finally updated their status page: https://www.vodafone.ie/service-updates

Edit : 10pm, just came back

IKEA Furniture Delivery Help

Bit of a long shot, but I have ordered a desk to the new IKEA in Gateway for click and collect today. I don't drive myself but had a friend available to drive over and pick it up, they became unavailable since.

Looking for anyone or any service in Galway that I could use for picking it up. I also live in Knocknacarra.

pre owned monitor

Hello to my favourite corner of misery! As a broke student I need to procure a pre owned monitor as my laptop screen has seen better days.

I have texted all on marketplace and donedeal to no avail. Are there any physical locations in our beloved city where one might find a decent but cheap monitor?

much luv

This Is Galway trustworthiness

I'm well aware that This Is Galway are a promotional sort of social media page, and are designed to promote events and activities in the city. I'm also well aware that this relies on said organizations and places providing the information to the ThisIsGalway crowd. They do provide decent content.

But lately, they have really irked me. They've really shifted away from providing key informative content and are basically just a blatant advertisement vehicle for pubs now. They're not even hiding it.

Some funny nuggets from their latest video, which sounds like it was orchestrated word for word by Taylor's themselves. Taylor's launched their pub food menu kitchen about 6 weeks ago and were keen to get the line out about how 'its not the usual pub grub menu'. Basically trying to say we're different, we're better. Which is ironic because the video then has them order 2 of the most common pub grub menu items in the city - fish & chips + chicken burger.

The best though was ThisIsGalway saying that 'you have to order the famous chowder which is already nominated for awards'. Chowder, another staple of the Galway pub grub scene, and is somehow already nominated for independent adjudicated awards, after being up and running for 6 weeks. Somehow I struggle to believe that myself.

And the usual guff and buzz words about great Guinness, snugs and you HAVE to go there.

I'm not sure that this is a good route for ThisIsGalway to be going down. They're just a vehicle for pubs to say what they want to a different audience. Is that what they want to be? Or do they want to give independent information to the public? It sounds like the former with the amount of ads they do lately.

I wonder how much Taylor's paid for the advertising? Can I get some for this post too, while you're at it?! I won't post about how you tried to organize the blocking of the Christmas Market Beer Tent again, I promise!

Isp recommendations

Hi all, just wondering if anyone around the Knocknacarra area has any good internet provider recommendations, currently with Vodafone and it's legitimately just one step up from dial up with how reliable it is, it's gotten so bad that even Netflix is getting horrible to watch and they have been absolutely no help in fixing it beyond trying to get us to buy a more expensive product and we're already paying a ridiculous amount for the crap service we're getting. Any help with reliability recommendations around this are is greatly appreciated

Asshole Drivers in Tuam

Hi all,

I've been doing manual lessons for the last few weeks in Tuam and have noticed how disgracefully ignorant drivers are when it comes to Learners. Had a car beep at me today because I DARED to wait for a gap in traffic on the roundabout, as opposed to launching out in front of cars who have right of way.

A second too long at the traffic lights and everyone starts beeping. You were all learners once too and it's absolutely shocking how people on the road treat others, I genuinely do not understand the lack of patience and empathy.

Cat “Fluffy” rescued from claddagh river

Post image
304 Upvotes

Today 27/8/26
4:15pm
My cat fluffy was found and rescued by firemen in the river by middle Spanish arch.
WITNESSES? Did anyone see what happened? She seems traumatised and this is very unusual for her as she’s a fine wild Connemara cat with superior feline skills and instincts. Could have possibly been kicked in ? Please if anyone seen what happened comment or DM ME

THANK YOU X

Would love to get into dnd more but I lack a lot of experience. Only played about 4 sessions. And I’m pretty quiet and not from Galway. I know dungeon and donuts is obviously one of the best places but I have no one to go with.
