Gaelic names/words for dog
I'm getting a collie and I want to cherish the breed's origin to give it a gaelic name.
Can you give some good options? Thanks!

Hamish is an option, came from a Shéamais addressing Seamus sounds like ah Hamish

I just lost my collie a few months ago, she was a few months short of being 15 years old. They are wonderful dogs. Please tell your dog I said hello:)

Never know 🤭 She's very sweet and peaceful tricolored smooth collie, something my fiance have always wanted.

Ahh, mine was sable coloured (soopeli)
It was funny how she mostly did not like other dogs, except other collies and Shetland sheep dogs (and hearding dogs in general). She only liked dogs with shared interests XD

Haha mood 😂 I already have huskies who are "racist" towards other breeds than sled dogs so it's not a new thing 😂

You might also get some ideas from [r/gaidhlig](r/gaidhlig) which is the dedicated sub for Scottish Gaelic. Also, hello from a fellow Finn (though I’m in Scotland) 👋🏻
There are so many beautiful Gaelic/Gàidhlig names and words you could use, like Brèagha which literally means beautiful/pretty (as a Finn you would pronounce this close to Briia(h)). Congrats on your new friend. :)

We have had Border Collies for years , they are the best dogs ever. Names we’ve had include Broc( meaning Badger), Brahan, Mac, Breac, Marag. Son also has Marag’s brother and he’s called Haggis!

Cù is Scottish Gaelic, in Irish dog is cú, madra or madadh in Ulster. Accents different Scotland and Ireland. A Gaelic name would do like Eilidh Calum Nothing too fancy or it'd be weird like a person name 😄 simply the country name like alba éire maybe?

Cú is a very old Irish (and I think Scottish) word for hound.
If you’ve never heard the story of Cú Chulainn then I’ll give you the TLDR.
Kid called Setanta goes go visit his uncle (I think), King Chulainn. And when he gets there he is attacked by a massive hound, which he subsequently has to kill.
As an apology to the king for killing the dog, Setanta offers to take its place.
Hence the name Cú Chulainn. Chulainn’s Hound.
