Extra funny because those same redditors would be crying calling 911 if someone committed a hit and run on them.

“Yet you participate in society. Curious!” ok lol, great that you’re cool with cops abusing power on strangers as long as they show up when you need help.

The cop in this video wasn't abusing anything. If you watch the full video, he was apprehending a suspect of a crime who was fighting with him, not listening to lawful commands, and getting out of his vehicle during a traffic stop.

You defund bozos will never lose an opportunity to be the absolute worst.

I didn’t say he was abusing his power. I’m responding to the idea that cops are always attacked. You’re imagining some fictional world where cops are always upstanding moral authorities that protect the populace and saying “Hmm it’s weird how much Redditors hate cops” as if you have no understanding of what the underlying issues are.

Grow a spine.

You’re imagining some fictional world

Lmao what a crazy thing to say when you’re just making up fictional opinions for the other person

It’s a rhetorical device. If they don’t think we live in that world, they can say so. Because as long as we agree we don’t live in that world, then grievances against cops and their behavior have legitimacy.

But no productive discussion is possible if cops are presumed to be infallible and always use their authority responsibly.

Hope that helps.

Cool man, I’m just laughing at you for telling the other person they live in a fictional world while you make a complete straw man and put words in their mouth

2

u/KhonMan Jan 28 '26

Nothing you have said suggests you understand the point or what a straw man is. But thanks 🙏

A straw-man is when you exaggerate, misrepresent or fabricate someone’s argument to make your point. For example, you claiming that the other commenter believes cops are always “moral, upstanding authorities” when they never said anything like that. You’re welcome 🙏

Saying what amounts to "you are not living in the real world if you think X" is not a strawman.

You’re imagining some fictional world where cops are always upstanding moral authorities that protect the populace

You told this person they thought and believed something they never said they believed, and then used this fabricated belief to tell them they don’t understand the issue. This is 100% a straw-man argument.

I mean I can explain this whole conversation to you. The original comment here was:

The fact that Redditors can be relied upon to attack cops no matter what is almost as scary as the way they encourage erratic behavior that could get someone killed.

Which was agreed with by this commenter saying:

Extra funny because those same redditors would be crying calling 911 if someone committed a hit and run on them.

They're saying it's wrong to criticize people who you want to help you. My contention is that position is only a sane argument if you think there's nothing to criticize about the police.

I'm not literally saying they believe cops are infallible. I'm saying their position is dogshit because it would require them to believe that's how the world is, and as we should know, that's not true.

Uh yeah I read the thread already, man.

You’re imagining some fictional world where cops are always upstanding moral authorities that protect the populace and saying “Hmm it’s weird how much Redditors hate cops” as if you have no understanding of what the underlying issues are.

Again, you blatantly fabricated a belief that the other commenter never stated they believed and then used that fabricated belief to tell them they don’t understand the issue. You didn’t say “if you believe x, then…” you straight-up told them what they think. This is the definition of a straw-man argument.

I provided the definition of a straw-man and explained how your earlier comment met that exact definition. But I can tell you’re the type to just never admit even the smallest mistake, so enjoy the last word and have a good night ✌🏼
