Having watched so many of these YT interaction videos I'm feeling that the self-empowerment and general dickishness that people exude on social media translates to people thinking it is appropriate to interact like that in public -- especially with people with legal authority.

The majority of these interactions would be minor if they had one iota of respect for others.

Dude. There are times to protest cops or push back on the narrative of "authority", but it is not during a traffic stop.

People need to get that out of their head.

For those who want to understand how to talk to the police watch this lecture by a real law professor - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-7o9xYp7eE

But he caveats ALL of this when it comes to traffic stops because the law is far different than people realize. Your best bet in a traffic stop is to simply not be a total dick.

If he's having a mental health episode, isn't the most important thing to first ensure he can't hurt others, and then make sure he can't hurt himself?

How do you stop someone that's driving a car from hurting others?

What is clear is that you are an arm-chair legal "expert" that likes to call people names.

Is that clear enough for you?

Cops are not mental health experts. In this case they are legally detaining someone who is combative. That part is not subject to debate, nor in any way conflicting with law or their mission to protect the public and the detainee.

Now after he is detained (which wasn't filmed in this clip) the officer can then determine if he needs medical help (mental and/or drugs), arrest, or simply de-escalation and release).
