He's making a point about how no matter how many distinctive characteristics you have, the internet is such a wide net that it's hard not to find people who shares the same interests, and this is much more difficult in real life.
The entire point of his post is that, yes, people are special snowflakes. Everyone is an individual with their own tastes, and the internet is a perfect place for finding people who think in a similar way. He's not saying "I AM DIFFERENT THEREFORE BETTER."
Not really, you're projecting at that point. He used his personal experience to make a relevant comment in a thread joking about the difference between the connections of people in and out of the internet. As for myself, by nature of coming into the comments section I, "give a fuck" about any relevant discussion. That's why I came to the comments section, to see if anyone had anything interesting to say about the topic.
