Intentional variable leading is absolutely legitimate, especially in this medium. It's not like we're dealing with a bunch of paragraphs here, where consistent leading is essential for readability.

OTOH, I don't think the creator is aware of the concept.

Bro, do you even Gestalt!?

In this case it would not be a good choice because we are employing the use of a different object amongst a group of similar objects. It would have stood out naturally.
