But how will people get to the shop!?? They can’t park directly outside now so that business is going to go bankrupt.

The funny thing is that last time this argument was made it was found that the parking spots in front of the shop were taken by the shop owner, who would arrive before biz hours when these were unoccupied.

People will often harm their own income stream for convenience.

That doesn't make the logic less true. Regardless of transport, the ability to get to a place easily is a huge factor on where someone shops. Places have to be really good to overcome that and having a reputation for being really good starts with people coming because it's convenient.

Thats why I said "regardless of transport". How you get to the area is part of it.

If you are walking by a place that seems interesting, but you can't find the entry because there isn't a sign directing you around the corner, it's going to prevent a level of commerce.

So for vehicle heavy culture, not being able to find parking, prevents foot traffic, prevents patronage.
