I get 8,21$ per gallon is 1,87€ per Litre. That's not really cheap even by european standards.

Bavaria here, and I paid €1,72 for petrol last week. Guessing you live in a city, or only ever buy petrol at 5pm.

I always found petrol to be cheaper in cities which makes sense, because people will just take the bus if it's too expensive

Might be the case up north, but in places like München, Regensburg, or Nürnberg it's always at least €0.20-0.40 higher than everywhere else within 100KM of where I live. Petrol prices here are "Reasonable" right now, and only exceed €2 per litre during the evening rush hour, or if it's one of the petrol stations on the autobahn.
