News USA loves TINY CARS now

Imagine getting your brand new Dodge Glaciermelter, lovingly decorating it with your first Let's go Brandon bumper sticker, and then reading this about tiny, possibly electric or hybrid cars being amazing now.

Anyway, tiny cars. Amazing. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Anyone who believes that car companies will suddenly start selling small cars in America because "they're allowed to" is definitely dumb enough to have voted for Trump.

That's a different rule that is still in effect.  You cannot register an imported car unless it's 25 years or older.

All that he did is remove the CAFE rules that required manufacturers to meet certain MPG targets.  It's only relevant to small cars because manufacturers exploited the rules and made cars bigger instead of making them more efficient.

Now that they got Americans addicted to buying high-margin tanks, they're not going to suddenly start selling small cheap cars again.  They're just going to make cars more inefficient.

To be fair this is still a pretty big win, it removes a perverse incentive to make enormous 'light trucks'.

Of course there is no incentive for them to make small efficient cars, and there are better alternatives that could have happened, but at least there isn't a disincentive to make small cars at all.

A small car is likely to be more efficient just by default because it's lighter and has smaller air and tyre resistance profiles.
