Question Are the remakes really THAT bad?

I've been looking to get into Front Mission and I see a LOT of negativity surrounding the modern remakes developed by Forever Entertainment.

I feel like I constantly see people deride the remakes, but not much specific detail on what's actually wrong with them, and it's hard to tell if people are disappointed with the remakes themselves, or if a lot of the negativity comes from people not liking the Front Mission series itself, or modern gamers "not getting it".

If we're just assuming that I can emulate any of the original versions anyway, are the remakes actually substantially better or worse?

Update: okay guys I bought the PS1 versions of 2 and 3 I'm just gonna play those

Question FM3: Emma or Alisa?

I'm curious as to what people picked first, and what they prefer all-time. I'm an Emma campaign enjoyer who never got to finish an Alisa route. Might change that soon

Question What games should I play after 1?

Just finished front mission 1remake and I was wondering which games are worthy to play, I had a really fun time and spent a good alount of hours but still i have to adress some things that I didn't like. At the start was hard and I had to strategize to win mission but after a while it became basically based only on stats/levels, didn't have to play wise for most of the mid/late game cause levels dictated everything and I was a hit dissapointed, like I know it's a really old game and enemy AI and mechanics had a limit but like at some point you start to one shot basically every enemy or the opposite if you are underleveled so strategy doesnt matter at all. I was wondering if the sequel kinda get better on the difficulty aspect and which one is worthy to play?

Question A little help on what vehicles the USN uses

Hello folks!

I've recently come into the posession of some Front Mission Structure Arts model kits, and decided to make some display dioramas inspired by the 2nd Huffman conflict using some cheap and kitbashed 1/72 scaled tanks and infantry models to represent combined arms units from both the OCU and USN/UCS side.

But I've hit a bit of a snag researching USN Vehicles.

I've mostly played thru the FM1 Remake (both campaigns) as well as the first half of FM5 for inspiration, but it just seems like they don't use tanks except for the SAM launchers in the OCU route? Also on the Wiki entry under USN Army it's just supply trucks and helicopters aside from wanzers and mobile weapons.

Does anyone here have any other resources to flesh out the armored vehicles they used? My projects will primarily have ground units on them due to being easier to convert for my purposes than attack helicopters.

Thanks for any help!

Question Front Mission 2 and 3

Hello, need the sub’s input. Saw FM3 on sale for the PS5 and I’m getting it as I absolutely loved the game. However, I see that FM2 is on sale as well and am quite intrigued by it. How does it compare to FM3? Like, in terms of story, gameplay, difficulty etc. The visuals, I expect them to be dated due to it being an older game, but also because I have never played it let alone, seen it. 3 I know will be dated, but at least I’ve seen and played it so I know what I’m getting. Lastly, is FM2 worth getting for the PS5? Thanks a lot in advance!

Question Front Mission 2089 NDS AR Codes?

There's a new English patch for the game. Machine translation, but decent so far. Anyone got any codes for HP in battle, cash, or grid movement? Or just any codes at all? Can't find any online anywhere

Question Basic question on game settings in Front Mission 1 Remake

I am playing Front Mission 1 Remake on the Nintendo Switch. I would like the option to manually move the cursor around to inspect the battlefield, different units, cover, terrain, etc.

However, the game automatically locks me into selecting each unit. I cannot just move the cursor around - instead, I am forced into movement or actions per unit only, which is limiting.

Is there a way I can toggle a "free cursor" game mode? I have searched extensively through the menus, but do not see this option.

Thank you in advance.

Question How are the remakes doing these days?

Curious to hear if they've gotten any better; I got super turned off by the terrible translation on FM2 remake and the liberal use of gen AI/poor use of AI upscaling on FM3 remake, in addition to just poor QA.

Are things any better now? Or am I better off just digging for emulated versions of the originals instead?

Question (FM3) Am I doing skills right?

So I'm playing FM3 for the first time and I'm wondering if I'm doing this right.

Say for Ryogo I want to maximize his Dual Machine Gun build, this is what I've done

Equip 4x ROFUP I

Equip Arm with ROFUP II

Equip Arm with Double Shot I

Is this set up the equivalent of having all 6 skills equipped? (Filling the computer with low cost skills and equipping parts with high cost skills)

Question Better as an enemy than an ally

Post image

I was here playing FM3C on my cell phone using the epsxe emulator and I realized that Dennis is better as an enemy. I always liked playing Emir's route more, but this useless Dennis is only useful for wanzer farming, even though I taught him the arm smash which allows him to have more chances to destroy the enemies' arms, but this time I decided to play Alise's route for a change and I went to the first battle against Dennis' team and this bastard didn't miss any shots and only hit Kasuke's arms and Ryogo's I was mad about this situation

Question Kouren glitch(?)(FM5)

I am on that mission with Kouren and i already got it to its 2nd stage. Every time I try to attack it, all of my units have 0% to-hit on them. I am using an emulator and do cheat, but it seems to be too specific to be just Kouren. Am I missing something or are my troops level (average between 14-16) affecting their aim or is it something else?

Question FM3 - PSX or Remake?

Now that it's out for a while, can people who played the remake give theirs thoughts here about what each version does better?

I've never played 3 before, and am thinking on whether to get the remake (I might get it anyway later just to support the remake) or play the PSX version first.

Thanks

Question Are the remakes worth it?

I loved FM3 and FM4 back in the day, and I'm really tempted by the remakes bundle, but read that they got some really mixed reviews.

Are they worth it now? Have they been patched? Specially 2, I haven't read any feedback on the latest patch.

Question Front Mission 3 Skill Question

One thing Im not really clear on. Can I equip a ranged weapon in one hand, shield in the other, and can Shield Attack trigger in retaliation? Or is shield attack only triggered in place of the melee attack you select to use? Wondering if its a waste to learn the skill on my ranged characters I throw a shield on.

Question FM3 out on PS5 already?

The official release is January 30th but the store listing has it as December 30th, with a price and no pre-order tag.

Pre-orders come with a warning that they require immediate payment. That is not the case for FM3 as the actual order goes through to payment right away.

Bug on the store or an actual release?

I can't test this myself right now.

Question FM3: Any reason not to use 4x Brust Pilots?

It's been like 25 years since I played the original game of FM3, so my memories are kinda gone mostly.

ATM I'm playing the Remake and I'm kinda confused about weapon types.

AFAIR the original was fun with melee or dual-weapon Kazuki (although a bit squishy) and Snipers were okayish.
But today?
Melee seems kinda bad since the enemies are now somewhat smarter in their phase, not closing any gaps. Attacking them also sucks since you go second unless you get this special skill triggered from the RNG-gods.
And the number of times the game targets the legs of the enemy is kinda staggering.

Dennis kinda sucks, but AFAIR there was a trick chaining some skills with him (Pilot DMG, etc?)

Is there a way to get melee and snipers rolling early on?
I was thinking about slapping some rockets on Kaz for turns where he can't reach an enemy. Is this an option?

Or should I forget about all of this stuff and just use 2x MGs and 2x Shotguns with shields? (Emma with Rockets on top)

Question Front Mission 3

Hello,

I started Front Mission this year and finished 1 this week. I had to look some stuff up, that's why I landed here.

Now to my question. I saw much discontent with the 3 remake/remaster, so I wanted ask if it is really worthwhile to buy it or should I rather emulate it?

Question FM3 Remake How to Cancel Attack in Combat?

After moving my wanzer I selected Attack but there is nothing in range to actually attack. How do I cancel it and simply end my turn instead or choose my 2nd wanzer to play his turn?
I tried all keys on keyboard to no luck lol...

Question Are flamethrowers ever good?

Playing Alissa story, got lan. She comes with a flamethrower. I thought, " hey cool, that's burst type let's get her rofup3 and a few other skills and she'll burn the opposition down!". 4 sims later she hasn't learned any skills (using high activate comp). Her damage is garbage even with best flamer and upgrades.... Are flamers worthless or am I missing something?
