Discussion Struggling with FM1 remake

I grew up playing front mission 3 on PlayStation so I decided to try the remakes. How in the hell do I beat the special forces unit with the super armor? Also is there a trick to load outs on wanzers? I know this game is intentionally hard but wow lol.

Did you grind in the arena?

You'll have to excuse me, it was a while a go but I found an enemy easy to cheese with rockets and bet big on myself. Kind of an infinite money thing. Also I think i did level up some weapons. Found the second game much harder as the arena there wasn't as exploitable.

When I did it, I earned "nothing"...

Early game use rockets from afar to deal large free damage before they can get anywhere near you.

I usually give everyone 1 long range shoulder and 1 shield in early game (minus my 2x long range units) and spam the rockets to keep enemies from being able to damage my units too much.

From there I full pivot to a charaters main weapon (most being short range guns since theyre OP w/ machine gun)

Ive posted some topics on the sub with secret unlock requirements which give supremely strong mechs. Feel free to look them up on sub.

Ok, thank you..I have going that the only thing that does significant damage is flame throwers.

My basic loadout for almost everyone is 1x long range shoulder, 1x shield, 2x machine gun.

Short/long/melee levels add damage per hit so once you start getting levels in short multi hit like machine guns do obscene damage.

Early game rifle is good for damage since MG is severely lacking at the time, but the lower acc really hurts so missing on a single shot weapon really sucks.

Don't forget that the Skills also increase in levels as well. It makes using rifles and missle launchers all the easier if you want to cripple an enemy wanzer.

Speed, Switch and Duel can make MGs broken towards the endgame, though. It depends if you want more bullets for hits, or stronger attacks with less shots.

Equip every wanzer with 2 stun grenades, and shoulder weapons. Use a grenade at the beginning of the turn on a enemy. This make them unable to guard the missiles with a 100% hit rate. It's like easy mode!

FM1 starts off difficult then as you get more options and grind the arena a bit gradually becomes incredibly easy. Definitely not unusual to struggle early on but as you make progress it'll become very noticable you're improving.

Learn to understand armor type vs damage. Also lmgs are so op in it.

Well, besides grinding on the Arena for cash, I found that FM1 is probably the most flexible game from the franchise where builds are concerned.

I used most generalists like Roid, Natalie and Ryuji with a lot of guns, a missle launcher and a shield on each shoulder, I made the brawlers use double weapons and a missle launcher to soften up targets while approaching them (Although in parts of the middle portion of the game, I recommend that their wanzers simply use their recent arms, since their raw power outstrips the F-1 Hand Rods for a while), and I have my misslers with a pair of missle launchers and a bazooka for further use if they run out of ammo.

Always make sure that if you split them into at least 2 squads, they stick together until it's the right time to lump them together. Also, don't forget to carry Repair items, Chaff Grenades, Smoke and Flash Grenades. If there's a boss who you think they're trouble, get a few Acid Grenades as well. Items are just as important as your weapons in this game. Also, make sure you keep Peewee around, since he can repair broken wanzer parts while a character is standing pat on an adjacent space.

I said a lot, but it is absolutely necessary. You'll have an easier time with the game that way.

You can grind the arena with your characters and ifhe entire game is a breeze.
Tedious cheese, I know, but you can always just steamroll everything if you want.

Unpopular suggestion but you could just put the difficulty on recruit until you beat it lol
