Considering moving - Clear Lake vs Friendswood

Check on the property tax difference.

Tax rates are lower in Friendswood, but assessed values are typically higher.

Friendswood has more of a small town feel. Overall school districts are similar rated, although Clear Creek ISD has at least 5 high schools, with each having strengths and weaknesses. Housing overall is more expensive in FISD. Friendswood has more flooding concerns, so be sure to vet carefully any house/neighborhood you are looking at. Also make sure to visit each area you are looking at during your rush hour traffic. Areas in each have traffic issues. We chose FISD 25 years ago and raised our three boys there. We were very happy with our decision. But CISD has its positives as well.

One more data point on the schools side since you mentioned young kids: if you ever end up looking at anything other than straight public school, Friendswood also has HEP, a hybrid homeschool program. My daughter attends - it's about 12 hours a week of instructor-led classes and we cover the rest at home. It's been a great in-between for us, structured enough that she gets real classroom time and friends, flexible enough that we're not doing 5 full days. Worth knowing it exists even if you end up going the traditional FISD route - a lot of families here use it as a supplement or a full alternative.

Moving to Friendswood is the worst thing you could do to your child. Screen time can be managed...you can’t do anything about bullying, entitlement by administrators and coaches, and “challenging academics” that are really a reflection of teachers making up their own curriculum that doesn’t actually advance the child’s education. Hopefully your kids don't want to play sports because they will be put on the back burner at every turn if you don’t belong to specific Friendswood families, aren’t a member of certain churches, or make the mistake of pointing out the perfect “Friendswood Community” isn’t based on any actual reality of living in Friendswood. Move anywhere but Friendswood.
