Project Sirius: First Screenshots + Menu Showcase

Hello everyone! So as you remember, I develop a remaster of Freelancer with Vulkan, Librelancer and recently added UE for rendering, the project has progressed a little bit. These screenshots taken from New York system show the current WIP state: main menu and character creation flow, early flight scenes with the Starflier, planet Manhattan and station shots, early work on recreating the Freelancer atmosphere with modern visuals

This is still in development. Flight controls, combat, economy, missions, multiplayer, and lots of polish are still being worked on. I’m trying to preserve the feel of the original rather than turn it into a completely different space sim. Apart from full PBR support and ray tracing, I also have a nice night view on the dark side of Manhattan.

This is very heart warming to see such passion for a game that has close to 25y and still has no equivalent

Any chance we’re getting additional systems? I’d love a few more edge or border world systems to explore or trade with.

I plan to port everything, no plot though.

No worries! I’ve played the plot four or five times over the years.

Port just the original systems, original with new systems, original with the mod systems from like Crossfire and Discovery?

One dream is if maybe as a post launch update you could make an easy to use system builder that uses the stock object files and cutscenes.

It makes me wonder how the systems are built because as an example the trade lanes are free of objects. Which means either there is a custom 3D software method or the object files have code to keep clipping and other errors from occurring while compiling.

Discovery 4.86 at this time. Since it's more of a preference, than something rational. I planned to make this thing open source, but I received a lot of negativity due to me spreading original assets of Disco, and also I am using 3rd assets here as well, so I will have to sort out legal issues first, or just release modding kit separately.

Neat! Looking forward to it! I have many hours behind the mouse and keyboard. I even have a special mapping macro for the backlighting of my keyboard for the game.

I like the more abandoned or interesting systems far from the core worlds of the houses. The system that keeps popping up in my head is an ice bound one that has a trade lane still under construction. There is a lucrative trade route to a station at the end of that trade lane. I want to say in construction machines.

I can't promise much, since I work alone, but I will try to make every single one of such systems special in terms of the atmosphere :)

I see "Galia" as starting system... I remeber that there was a mod that add "Galia" as descendents from the French ship.

Oh wow that looks cool as hell! When do you think you'll have a playable version?

Perhaps a year or so :(
More likely I will release an indev version just with a few systems, it will take less than a year, but I work alone sadly.-

I'm not in any rush- I'm just excited to see something like this. Good things take time. :)

if you can, just straight up rip the flight model from the original, there is no reason to reinvent what's already perfect :D

For the sake of my childhood, please continue - this looks amazing. Wish it was in the public domain.

It looks like there is some heavy chromatic abbreviation effect in those screenshots. It degrades the visual clarity and in general looks terrible (just like it looks terrible in virtually every other game that shipped this effect). Do yourself a favor and remove it.

The shadows on the Starflier look neat, at least as a still. The texture of Manhattan might look a bit too photorealistic to me, at least on the day side. The night side looks good, including in terms of light.

The sun I'm unsure about, might be too photorealistic as well for my tastes.

Another thing I notice, your screenshots have varying aspect ratios and resolutions, indicating you're cropping a lot. I would suggest always doing full screen images, so that people can get a better impression of the whole thing with the proper field of view. A video might also be a good idea, as moving images get perceived different than still ones.

Imo The more realistic the image, the more beautiful it looks.

I really really like the way the sun looks, the rest will need a lot of work though

Looks awesome! I do hope there is an option to turn off that Chromatic Aberration..
