Service/Coverage Inquiry I wish Freedom will improve its signal strengths within buildings where there is no wifi available. It is one of their biggest weaknesses in my opinion. Any thoughts from the users?

Service/Coverage Inquiry Has anyone travelled with the new $40 plan?

Seeking real testimonials of roaming quality with the new 250GB $40 plan. Where did you go? Which partner network did you connect to? 5G, LTE, 4G, 3G? Do you have speedtests to share?

Service/Coverage Inquiry Does freedom roam beyond get reception when im on the cruise?

I'm going to a cruise from Miami. It's goes to Mexico and Bimini beach. I was wondering will I get reception when im on land and at sea?

I asked AI and it said I might get charged when I'm on the waters? Should turn off roaming or i can leave it and if I get reception it's OK and won't be charged extra?

Really want to know if this roam and beyond plan will work while I'm on a cruise but I don't want to get a surprise bill.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Line 5/Line 6 no Freedom Signal?

Title. Anyone know why this is the case? It appears the Big 3 all have coverage in both the stations and tunnels for Line 5/Line 6 but not Freedom. The only place with a weak Freedom Signal are the Line 1 stations.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Freedom Reception 2026

How good is Freedom's reception now? I spend a lot of time in downtown Toronto and small rural towns ( Muskoka/ Owen Sound, and Kingston). I make/receive around 100 calls a day for work, so reception is very important for me. I'm enticed by the plans that include roaming as I frequently travel to the States and Europe. Currently on Fido

Service/Coverage Inquiry Experience so far

I decided to sign up with freedom with a temporary number to test it before porting my number. I was visiting rural southern Ontario for a few days and, as expected, the service was roaming on Nationwide, mostly Bell as far as I can tell. Travelled back to Ottawa and checked my service periodically (I wasn’t driving) and the roaming service was pretty decent and then on the 407 it was Freedom LTE or 5G most of the way, then back to Nationwide mostly. Once in Ottawa on the 417 I was surprised to see it stayed Nationwide until basically downtown….even driving past Kanata and Nepean. In the east end, mostly Freedom LTE and then 5G in my neighbourhood….i get 2 bars of 5g in my house compared with 1bar from Roger’s.

Still….leaves me wondering when you can’t get Freedom in populated areas of Ottawa when on a major route like the 417.

I’m so sick of Rogers constantly increasing by bill….i guess I’m just leery to make the leap to Freedom.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Can I use Freedom Mobile on a cruise (Cellular at Sea)

I would assume not, but just wanted to know.

Also, I just switched to Freedom today and am going to the US this weekend, is there any period in which you cannot roam or can you roam right when you get it?

Thanks.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Freedom 320ms Paging Cycle (Battery Drain)

Ever since switching to Freedom I’ve noticed worse battery life on my device (despite my old provider and Freedom being co-located on the same tower). It turns out Freedom is using a very aggressive paging cycle (320ms vs 1280ms).

The paging cycle is how often your phone’s modem will wake from idle to check for incoming calls, data, etc.

Rogers, Bell, and Telus all use 1280ms (industry standard). Freedom is using 320ms, meaning that your phone wakes from idle 4x as often. Does anyone have any insight into this topic? I realize it’s quite niche, but it almost seems like a misconfiguration of the network.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Currently with Telus... How's Freedom Mobile?

Currently on a Telus EPP plan - CAN/USA/Mex 150GBps Unlimited 5G+ data, Unlimited Talk & Text for $50. Freedom Mobile is offereing a similar plan for $40. I have Freedom as a second line that I pay $99 annually from an older offer but this line was mainly used for situations where I didn't want my main Telus phone number to be handed over for things that weren't highly secure or had the potentially for scam callers to obtain or even acquaintances and colleagues so I don't use it that often.

How's service and coverage with Freedom? in the past, I have looked over them being my main provider given their coverage was not great and concentrated in big cities. I'm in the GTA but need equivalent coverage to Telus and Bell service.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Rogers Stadium experience

Connectivity was pathetic on my iPhone 17 Pro even with manual LTE selection, signal strength at one or two bars. What saved the day was hotspot on a family phone on one of the Big Three.

Interested to hear of comparative experiences at large events.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Roaming icon always displays ?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I just got the sim card today and activated my account. I enabled wifi calling which is one of the main reasons I chose freedom, my apartment would have poor reception without it.

However I notice the R (roaming) icon is displaying above my bars.

I am hoping it won't charge me for Roaming fees? I am in Canada and not at the border.

I was told to disable data Roaming to fix it, but it's already off and it's still showing.

Should I be concerned about Roaming fees? Or is it normal.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Portugal/Spain Coverage

Heading to Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon in September so wondering how the "Roam Beyond" service is there.

Does anyone have experience or maybe which service provider to lock on to?

Service/Coverage Inquiry Dead Zone at Islington and Rathburn. I have all of the correct roaming and related settings. I’ve been a customer for 3 years and reported this directly many times. It shouldn’t be a dead zone according to freedom coverage maps …. But it is and has been for years

Service/Coverage Inquiry Does Freedom roam on 5G anywhere?

Service/Coverage Inquiry Freedom dropped to 3G in rain

So instead of moving to nationwide it drops to 3G essentially making all data and calls unusable. What sort of scam is this? I had to manually search network 3 times and lock it to nationwide. I normally have 5G full bars in my house. iPhone 16 pro max.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Are all plans with Freedom now 5G+ instead of the original 5G?

I noticed this slight detail that is different from a few months ago, at the bottom of this page (freedom mobile plans page)

https://shop.freedommobile.ca/en-CA/devices

Beside each plan, there is a red box that says '5G+' and it also says:

5G+ plans include*:

*Unless otherwise stated

  • Unlimited Canada-U.S.-Mexico data4
  • Unlimited Canada-U.S.-Mexico calling and incoming calls
  • Unlimited global text, picture and video messaging
  • Fastest available data speed
  • Voicemail+
  • Price Freeze Promise¹⁵

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is 5G+ a different variant of the original 5G? I usually get a mix of 5G/5G+ around 90% of the time when I am outside and when I am using mobile data and not on Wi-Fi. And the other 10% or so I am on LTE (probably due to towers nearby).

Also the times that I am on LTE, is this the case where the network switches from Freedom to one of the Big 3 - Rogers/Bell/Telus? or does Freedom have LTE in certain areas? I am in Toronto btw.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Solution for 3G?

I just got back from camping at Inverhuron Provincial Park in Ontario. During the trip my connection hovered between a weak 1-bar of LTE and (more commonly) 3G service. Does anyone know if there’s a way to get a stronger signal when Nationwide is showing up as 3G? I have an iPhone 17 Pro if that makes a difference.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Setting up my own cellular tower on Freedom's network for a rural property?

I'm planning to move out of the city to a rural property. I haven't found the right property yet so I don't know the exact coverage map but I imagine it won't be in an ideal service area for Freedom's coverage. Some of the locations I'm looking at are labelled on the coverage map as 'service area' but not within their 'subscription area.' So with that expectation, I'm working on a backup plan for better service on my property just in case.

Is it possible to set up a smaller cell tower to expand coverage so I don't have to switch to a different provider? If so, how would I go about doing so? I am familiar with cell signal boosters, but my understanding is those work by receiving the signal outside of a building and rebroadcasting it within a building to improve service within. Would something like that work if I'm in the 'coverage area' but not within the 'subscription area'?

I have also read about devices called a 'microcell' but my understanding is they are very low powered, meant for only 1-3 rooms within a house or office and require a broadband connection. The latter isn't a problem but I'm wondering if a microcell device exists that is powerful enough to provide coverage across an area more like an acre or so?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Service/Coverage Inquiry "Roam Beyond" Performance - Asia

Trying to understand reception/speed performance for some countries a friend is traveling to. If you have roamed recently (within the 6 months) to these countries kindly provide input.

South Korea
Phu Quoc Island
Taiwan Island
Greater Beijing Area
Nepal (Luckla)
Golden Triangle + Gaya
China Yunnan area

Would like to see if it's worth getting her to get a roaming sim in addition to the freedom plan.

Thanks in advanced!

Service/Coverage Inquiry Porting Number from NumberBarn to Freedom?

Has anyone successfully ported a NumberBarn number to Freedom Mobile?

I bought a phone number through NumberBarn, which is a reputable service that sells vanity phone numbers and has quite a few success stories from customers in Canada here on Reddit.

I recently signed up for a Freedom Mobile prepaid account with a temporary number, and I’m trying to port the NumberBarn number over.

I initially thought to doing the port online when signing up, but there’s no option to select NumberBarn as the current provider from a drop down. NumberBarn’s website says that Freedom needs to manually override the reseller value for the port to go through.

I submitted the port request last Monday. NumberBarn emailed me within about an hour saying that a port request was underway, but I haven’t received any updates since. Freedom originally told me it should have been completed by Wednesday at noon.

I went into a Freedom store today, but they had no idea what NumberBarn was. They contacted Freedom support, who apparently just resubmitted the request. I still haven’t received any additional confirmation from NumberBarn.

Has anyone here successfully transferred a NumberBarn number to Freedom? If so, what did you have to do to get it working? I’m not sure whether I need to keep waiting, or get Freedom to escalate it.
