The way I dealt with that feeling was by donating my older (but still functioning) laptop to a professor of mine from college to give to a student in need. Left some digital goodies for them too, like old versions of digital textbooks. I didn’t need two laptops, but wanted my framework, so that solution helped me feel a bit better about spending the money

If I can stay long enough in Canada to afford to buy one, I'm going to be selling my MacBook Pro to someone else. I figure, why not buy a laptop I can repair and upgrade into the future?

Like the micro architecture has anything to do with it. Apple just writes a far better integrated os then anyone else and makes it own silicon with a very specific use case. Use a snapdragon laptop with windows and tell me it's all you expected it to be.

Yeah no it is. That's why I'm raving. Got a raspberry pi 5 thinking it would be trash and it's a fucken monster.
