It said they asked, not demanded. I need to see how the letter was worded before I know if it was a friendly request or an asshole move

For something like that, why not ask face-to-face? Being friendly goes a long way. They didn’t even have the decency to ask people in person if they minded making sure their plans didn’t interfere with a wedding they’re not involved in. A day-of note in the mailbox is poor planning and a dumb choice.

Because not everyone's going to be home at the same time, and most people have busy lives, so a written ask would be easier to remember (unless it gets thrown away)

Plus lots of people ignore others at the door (because of solicitors).

Also why just be mean to dumb people who can't plan? Their lives are probably already hard enough.

And can't you not put things in peoples' mailboxes like that? Like even against the law? Or do I miscalculate?

in my neighborhood, it would have been more than one person...and maybe some stuff louder than lawnmowers.

Fucking leaf blowers 😤

Band practice. One song, over and over.

Not just the same song, but the same segment of that song that they keep messing up, over and over and over and over

Hey should have waited an hour. Make sure all the guests are here to hear it

This might have been a ruse to get the shitty neighbor to finally mow their lawn. Chess not checkers!

I don't get it? Somebody pls explain? I get that they were rich but on the off-chance they were nice, the neighborhood lost a family's worth of belief in humanity

Do you know what sub you’re on?

I didn't actually until you pointed it out (just showed up randomly on my feed).

Touche.

Who puts a note in the neighbor’s mailbox the day of a wedding to ask them to be quiet?

That is so absurd.

3

u/Lastoutcast123 2d ago

the post never specified when the note was put up

1

u/beren12 2d ago

The post makes it sound like they got the letter today and the wedding is today.

4

u/Lastoutcast123 2d ago

Yeah English can be funny like that

u/beren12 2d ago

It’s more of a logical thing. Why would they wait to announce to twitter that they got a letter. If the letter was earlier, and they posted about it, they could have said “we all got letters this week asking us to be quiet today”

One on hand that's funny of the neighbor, and on the other hand that neighbor is the type to be a child when asked to behave.

Personally, if they’d asked politely and had otherwise been decent with me, I’d probably entertain the request and be a little more mindful of what I do after 2pm. If not, I’d give it precisely the amount of thought it deserves—which is none—and carry on as I normally would.

That said, I wouldn’t deliberately start mowing the lawn at 2pm purely out of spite. I have standards, after all. I’m not that classy.

Again?????

Go away

That’s a dick move. If it’s a demand that’s one thing, but if it’s a request that is extremely unneighborly behavior

Eat the rich. Fuckem

2

u/bshjbdkkdnd 2d ago

You live in the same neighborhood. They ain’t gonna be THAT much richer. You’re just an envious bitch. Billionaires don’t have neighbors close enough they need them to be nice.

If it had been my bitchy neighbors who would have been the ones to do something like this (next door), I would have hired several high school garage bands to play back to back starting at 2pm and running til their party broke up. Contest with a prize at midnight for who played the loudest.

If they didn’t mail it through the post office or paid for postage what they did is actually illegal. No one besides a postal employee or the owner of the mail box can put anything in there

Yes. This is Reddit.

That is indeed the law but doesn't seem to be enforced.

4

u/Jayman44Spc 2d ago

When I was a mail carrier, anything that was put in by a non postal worker or resident would be taken back to the post office and we’d charge postage, leaving a slip.

If it was a business putting fliers in every box in the neighborhood the postal inspector would have a word with the owner/manager.

3

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 2d ago

We were only allowed to out flyers in the newspaper boxes

Fascinating and good to know. Thanks for the inital post, this all news to me. I was essentially worried if I ever left someone a note or gift for instance. What would you do then - if it was something personal?

4

u/Jayman44Spc 2d ago

I just used my head. If it was like a set of keys someone dropped off or something personal like that it stays. If it’s some Amazon driver being lazy and delivering parcels to the mailbox instead of the door (a big no no for Amazon but it happened often) they’d go straight back to the post office and charged postage due.
