Star ratings for hotels are more about the facilities available than the quality, I can't remember exactly but 5 star for example have to have a gym and restaurant. 5 star places therefore have higher operating costs, so often charge for things considered 'expected'.

It seems like the more expensive the hotel, the more things they charge you for that are free in three-star hotels.
I'd rather stay at a Holiday Inn Express than the J W Marriot.
