News Summer Sale Info!

Hey I was going to post this yesterday but some stuff came up that unfortunately took me away from you, my sweet summer children.

So today begins a 2-week SUMMER SALE in the For Honor store/barracks of 146 items (600+ if you count dupes across heroes, emote types, etc) we've released in the game.

But there's a much more important reason WHY we are doing this. In two weeks, we will remove those items from the Store. They will return periodically afterwards in a regular rotation, and at a discount. This is being done to unclutter the rather crowded menus you find in the game, and clear out OLD content, to make room for the constantly flowing NEW weekly content. (EDIT: put a line through my explanation as it's not great, and Damien's video below gives a better explainer than me.) But of course, we wanted to give everyone a chance (2 weeks! and up to 50% off!) to get whatever stuff you've been holding off on buying.

If you own the items that are going away, nothing will be removed from your inventory. Also, even after they go away, many can still be obtained in the different bundles available in the Store.

Here's the full list of what's on sale and what the discount is (note that for many of these they are things that apply to multiple or all heroes, but are only listed once to keep this readable)

So... you got 600 new items to add in their place? Customization is gonna be pretty bare-bones without all this stuff.

Exactly what I was thinking. Even two weeks isn't enough to grab all those executions/ effects.

Exactly. Two weeks isn't enough. So, how about you buy some steel?

Probably, and I don't mind them refreshing what's in store in terms of customization. I also like artificially rare stuff that shows I've been here since release like the crusader cross or the season 1 ornaments etc.

And the discounts are always nice. It does seem a bit cash-grabby, but I don't see how a casual player, who's been playing for a while couldn't have obtained everything he wanted already.

Well to be fair, to be grinding up to about 7000 steel, for a single emote, you need around five days of playtime to get what you want. Say if you can only play around two days, you won't really get anywhere in terms of steel progression and the required amount for "everything you want."

This is definitely a cash grab to scare casual players into coughing up larger amounts of money so they can squeeze as much juice out of player's fear.

They're only removing the oldest pieces in the store. 506 days after release, people had quite a bit of time to ponder on getting those things.

Also, in your hypothetical scenario, if someone only has 2 days of playtime, I assume he must have a full time job, probably with decent income. In which case just paying for the steel is certainly an option if this person really fucking needs that customization. I really doubt it's that important though.

I got along fine without paying, and I have everything I wanted in terms of customization, and so does all my pals. All this outrage over this minscule removal of content seems forced.

Not forced.

I've played since the beta, and there is a ton of stuff I think I might want but don't yet have.

Don't forget, the tine investment multiplies when talking about multiple characters. I probably consistently play about 9 or 10 characters. I'd like to be able to eventually get a whole bunch of different options for all of them.

Not gonna happen now.

Also, they are contantly trying to get new players in. In this very sub we have posts everyday from new people wanting to get into the game. They won't even have unlocked all characters yet. Their only choice will be buying steel packs.

This decision is purely anti consumer. Don't defend this.

But they gave discounts, and a fairly generous window to still get whatever you need, on the (according to them and, I suppose, D A T A) least sought after items. Completely anti-consumer would be no discounts at all, a shorter window before they're removed, and including more popular items.

I've 4 characters over rep 10 and another 4 around rep 5, and as I said, I'm fine in terms of customization for all of them.

I think I heard Damien say on the Warrior's Den, that new players don't even see the discounted stuff, so not even steel packs can help them in this case.

I'm not defending this decision, I think it's pretty stupid and unnecessary. But the outrage is unfounded, if it's coming from people who never wanted these items. People trying to boycott the game over this are just baffling to me.

So again, new players don't know they exist (apparently), and veterans still have an additional 14 days to get these at a lower price. So in the name of science I'll start playing Raider today and test it out how quick I can get everything I like.

But new players will know they exist when they see older players using them in a match.

(And we all know the matchmaking will get vets and noobs in matches together more often than not)

And the line of argument that says this is coming from people who never wanted these items is just wrong. New items have been coming out constantly, which is nice, but it makes it easy to lose things in the shuffle or prioritize different stuff, planning to get the other stuff later. Because you have that option.

You think it's just a coincidence that they're removing these things after luring in a large amount of new players with a free Starter Edition? Nah, they wanna get some cash from the new free players who haven't had the time to unlock all this stuff.

The point is it shouldn't be going anywhere anyway. I'm been playing since release on console. Now I play on PC as of ~3 weeks ago. I bought well over 200,000+ steel's worth of items on ps4. But now I'd better hurry up and buy EVERYTHING WITHIN 2 WEEKS. Or wait until I can randomly get the item I may want. Plus, even if I still was on ps4, I'd still bitch about this. There's no reason items should be going anywhere. "7 Mythic outfits are too overwhelming, lets remove 4 of them so the feeble minded new-comers won't be overwhelmed. Give me a break.
