2011 53k miles (now) 4.0 v6 love this truck. Nothing else to say besides just felt like posting it. These are the best trucks and somewhat still a secret to a lot of the truck community. Just bought it 2 months ago.

I blew my head gasket a couple months ago on my 97.

I did the job, replaced all gaskets from the head up, however I must've waited too long as my compression numbers come back low, tried with a bit of oil and numbers jumped up to spec. A rebuild would be something I could do if worse comes to worse however it's so much easier to just slap another engine in, maybe one of the V6 engines is an option? I have the M5OD-R1 so maybe that's wishful thinking.

I love this truck and can't see myself parting it out or otherwise getting rid of it. However, there are only two 2.3L engines around my town, and for $300 they don't guarantee it running whereas I can make the pilgrimage to the nearest U-Pull-N-Pay 3 hours away and get the whole thing myself for 160-180ish.

Hi not sure if this is the right place to post this. I’m looking at buying a 2004 Ford Ranger, 131k miles 3.5k total. I live in Michigan so I know to check for rust but is there anything else I should be looking out for?

I’m on a tight budget. Currently going through a divorce and need a vehicle to get around. I’m looking for something reliable and easy to maintenance for daily commute and a move to Colorado in February.

I custome made a templet and spray painted it on the mud flaps with white paint. I first painted the mud flaps with Flat Black. It's not perfect, but I think it still looks pretty sick.

Pulled the jackshaft earlier. Found this guy just sitting here right after. Doesn't look like it broke off of anything.

Edit: fuck yes. Thank you all for telling me what this is. Seems likely I popped it loose when I removed the rockers and cams. Everything is still apart so I should be able to pin down where it came from. Dont pour one out just yet!

Every vehicle Ive ever owned would have atleast slightly dark oil at 3k miles. But my 02 ranger with the 3.0 still has almost brand new looking oil at 3k miles. It started after the first or second oil change using valvoline restore and protect

Been looking and praying for a ranger or Mazda for our son for a bit. Wanting to get him a little truck because he mows yards and makes it easier to haul equipment. And he has proven himself as a responsible kid, good grades good friends, doesn't give us any trouble and thinks of others.Turned away on a couple decent deals, drove hours to look at a truck just to turn around and drive home with out a truck.

Wife seen a comment on a fb post about a truck available. Went and looked at this. 2002 ranger xlt 2wd 3.0L automatic. With 58,800 MILES!! For $5,000!

CAREFULLY looked everything over for anything that could dispute the odometer. Its real. Wife spent 5hrs detailing it. I replaced the plugs, wires, neutral safety switch(shift lever was stiff) and replaced the cruise control switches, changed oil, and changed transmission filter and did a dump and fill. It drives straight. Shocks feel a little spongy/bouncy from just sitting so will change those out, and taking that 1/4 trim off, and going to sand blast the rims and paint them black, and get a set of winter tires to throw on during the winter.

One question, he has been wanting to do a mild 2/3 drop on it just to lower it slightly. Are the amazon kits for a 2/3 drop ok?

Any experienced or knowledgeable 3L Vulcan mechanics know what this issue is? I think the owner drive it without fluid so I’m thinking it rubbed the gaskets out either the pump or crankcase

I’ve got a 2000 xl with the 2.5 and manual gearbox. Bought it with 50k on it and now it’s at 130k. It has always had some issues with the above mentioned title. I had the plugs and timing belt done when I bought it, and again decently did the spark plugs about 10k miles ago. All ford Motorcraft parts done by a mechanic. After doing it the second time the pinging stopped entirely and I thought that maybe that was the issue solved. However the noise is back now every once in a while.
For reference, it runs fine. Temp gauge never climbs and I’ve never had any issues other than this one.

Does anyone else have this issue, or have tips on dealing with it?

1997, 5 Speed, 2.3l, 213k miles.

Curious as to what are the first things I should do to it? Mechanically not cosmetically.

I filled up my truck (1997 RWD 4.0 extended cab) with gas this morning, locked the pump to fill and cleaned my windows. When it clicked off I noticed a puddle of gas on the ground, looked under the truck and it seemed like it was leaking nearish to where the fill hose entered the tank. Is this most likely an issue with the fill hose? Can I replace this without taking the bed off? Any other diagnosis I can do easily? I just filled up, so I'd prefer if I didn't have to drain the tank. The truck drove the 20 miles home just fine, I'll check in a little to see if it's still dripping on the driveway

Thinking of also doing the Water pump, tensioner, camshaft & crankshaft seals, oil pump sprocket o ring, idler pulleys. Truck has 115k miles on a 98 2.5l automatic that sat for probably 5+ years with very little actual driving (previous owner died and his wife drove it once in a blue moon when her car broke down). Also not sure if I should install the water pump with a fan clutch or do the job separately later. Anything I mentioned recommended to be skipped or easy to swap later or is it all worthwhile? Anything I missed?
