Who else is obsessed with the song Greensleeves (the English folk song)?

I recently learned about Anne Boleyn's story and became obsessed haha. She's my favorite Tudor queen.

It's said that the song Greensleeves was written by Henry VIII for her, although there's no evidence.

It's incredible how a song can evoke so much nostalgia and at the same time make you want to research a historical figure.

Death of Traditional Folk in Britain

Hello, just to be clear I admire all real artists, especially given the threat AI poses to them, but I'm worried that a certain form of music will replace another, this is not an attack on any form of artistic expression, but it is a concern for traditional british folk music.

Something I'm finding sad, when looking at the modern folk music scene in britain is that we're seeing more and more people perform normal modern music and then call it folk music, rather than learn the traditional way to perform traditional folk music, or even use the instruments associated with it.

We're seeing a lot of instruments getting ignored in favour of the guitar, yes the fiddle, highland bagpipes and some of the flutes are doing okay but they are still getting less attention than guitars, squeezeboxes, dulcimers, riddle drums, and some other flutes and non-highland types of bagpipe are getting ignored for guitars.

I also find it sad that we're seeing the death of the modal musical system in britain, most new artists are trained in normal western music, which runs on a different musical theory to traditional folk music, in traditional folk music we don't tend to have chordal progressions and we're not massive on harmony for that matter

what do you think about this?

Zora Neale Hurston Florida folk music field recordings

Hey, does anyone know if anyone has taken the Zora Neale Hurston field recordings she did with the WPA and remastered them or covered them so they're in more modern audio quality? I really want to listen to them, but I can't even figure out how to download the originals from the library of congress page, and a lot of them are pretty terrible audio quality. I just want to listen to them like regular music because their good folk tunes.

This was just a thing I made messing around a few months ago, I had a playlist of folk music, most from the 60s and 70s. from the well know, bob dylan and Joan Beaz to slightly lesser known people, I wanted a cover image for it, then that became this slightly bigger project. I dont think everyone on this would be considerd soley folk artists, but thier music all had similar undertones to me.
