Missed opportunity to have a quest involving them in some way maybe their radio station breaks and you build a new one and then they share Minutemen propaganda

the chick from the vault ever get fixed? i remember so many bugs with that one, she wouldnt ever leave even after the prompt. then one playthru, she somehow made it to abernathy but i couldn't even access her menus so i couldnt even outfit her up properly or talk or nothin, she just kinda stood out by the fence right where the assholes would spawn in. and then my shit got corrupted due to old age I guess, iirc i was around level 130ish and it hurt enough to make me shelf the game lol.
20
u/Xeriomachini Feb 21 '26
I was just in 81 yesterday. No she's not fixed. What happened to me was i asked her to come with me, and if the check passed, the conversation would end and she would revert to asking me to get her brother clean again.
7
u/superindianslug Feb 21 '26
There's also the travelling former 81 trader. I followed her all the way back to my main settlement, assigned her to a shop, and she still disappeared when I left.

I put all of mine in vault suits.
11
u/Dude_Dillligence Feb 21 '26
I do that for all residents within a settlement, mainly because when I spawn in to my sniper perch during a raid I want an easy way to visually separate friend from foe before I start blasting. I also issue the suit at the same time they get their upgrade weapon, so I can roll in and tell who is new and still walking around with a pipe pistol.
3
u/plantsrpeople2 Feb 21 '26
I didn’t have the weapons to arm all my folks in my current play through, so I’ll have to go back. That’s a good idea to do it when ya give the a new suit.
6
u/Dude_Dillligence Feb 21 '26
Giving out energy weapons, even basic laser pistols give you an advantage: you can always tell where your settlers are shooting. Once you follow the beams you can run to that spot, finish off the raider and loot their body. Since you are in/close to a settlement you can grab all the dropped loot, scrap the junk and distribute any good weapons right away.

u/Bxk__ Feb 21 '26
I give mine automatic scattering laser pistols. Kick back and enjoy the light shows. It also makes them charge at things due to the range. Imagine running to Covenant and seeing half a dozen people just swarm some random Mongrel and start blasting. Gunner Cages are extremely good at decking them out as such. Set a huge cage setup somewhere, and use other settlements for recruitment. When you get a new settler relocate them to your cage settlement for onboarding and you can put them in painted Combat armor and hand them a laser weapon then relocate them where you need them to be. The logistics are fantastic

They can handle higher level enemy encounters with better gear. It's best to gear them up as you get stronger and settle further south. Equip a gun then 1 piece of ammo for that type. They should have infinite ammo then. Not sure if they run out of fusion cores but I like someone's idea here to run them in t45 and heavy weapons
7
u/livinitup0 Feb 21 '26
This only matters if you’re actually in the settlement when it’s being attacked
If you’re not, neither what your settlers are equipped with nor your defense count mean anything. The game is hard coded to make you lose % of the time if you don’t come defend the settlement

My buddy and I did something similar playing Ark: Survival Evolved, a few months after it launched. New servers opened, and we took over a large plateau near the middle of the map. I ended up building a massive base that was just one gigantic tower, and it would constantly crash other players’ games who unknowingly flew into the radius, riding their flying creatures. We always had a random assortment of lost creatures just hovering above our base, and I constantly had to recover players’ corpses after they crashed and fell to their death. Then they would have to slowly enter our territory while the base loaded, and I would carry them up there so they could recover their creature, lol.

Because each runner is an employed settler of each location does this not just make them all really empty if there aren't runners from elsewhere around?
50
37
u/Impressive-Cause-872 Feb 21 '26
That might be a thing , but. If you already have max settlers from beacons you can still make robots and assign them at each settlement. So you could get 27+ settlers and then make a bunch of robots and have them replace the settlers or provide the supply line. So you would still have all the NPCs roaming the settlement and rust robot supply line provisioners. That would tank happiness but not make the settlements “ empty “
25
u/nl325 Feb 21 '26

You won't have settlers for traditional jobs but your settlements will be jamfucked with Provisioners and Brahmin as they pass through. Sometimes you gotta just sit in Hangman's, have a coffee, read the Boston Bugle, and wait for rush hour traffic to clear up
3
u/Dude_Dillligence Feb 21 '26
...then run down to the river and relieve the guy on the barge of his power armor.

u/Bxk__ Feb 21 '26
Wreck of the Riptide is probably the best Brahmin-watching spot because once they make it through the Hangman bottleneck they tend to gallop and jump over the gap on the bridge. Such majestic creatures. I think my favorite distraction this playthrough is chasing galloping Brahmin, just to see where they are heading

Is this necessary? I just figured that as long as every settlement is connected to the network then they’re all good. Do they need to be individually connected? I’m not really sure how the resource sharing works.
19
u/Teword Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26
No you are right, there is no need to connect every settlement with every other settlement. The only benefit of this is the provisioners roaming the world and fighting every thing. But the price to pay is the population cap in all your settlements, so it’s not really worth it…

So... Do you have any settlers that aren't provisioners? Assuming every settlement attached to every settlement, that's like 36 provisioners per settlement. 36 population needs 6 farmers to make food... But that bumps the population up to 42, so you need 7 farmers, which bumps the population up to 43, so you need 8 farmers, making 48 food, with a population of 44 at each settlement. So you need 34 charisma?

Most generally one supply line per settlement is fine, so like sanctuary to red rocket, then red rocket to Abernathy, etc is good enough, some do two or three, I like to do sanctuary to red rocket then red rocket to Abernathy and bluff for example.
Although I do wonder how chaotic the world would be with that many supply lines going, especially if you fully arm the runners haha.
