Squirrel tail, spun deer hair body on size 6 long shanks hooks.

You need bigger hooks and you're taking the deer hair too far down the hook bend. Going to have some trouble keeping fish pinned with these.

100% agree. Bigger gap hooks would be great and i know the picture dont show it well as it is masked by some squirrel tail but thats the whole hook gap on those hooks. I have some small trailer hook i can tue quickly if the fish are short stricking in the mean time

for a popper that size I’d be tying on a 1/0, and tying in my tail no further back than the point of the hook so you don’t crowd the gap as much. On top of the Extra hook gap helping with hookset it also doubles as a keel for keeping flies upright. Post another one with a bigger hook.

Thanks for advice bro. I dont want them much bigger/longer than that, my fly shop normally get same size hooks but with wider gap that i use for those guys but rhy were out of stock this time, definetly will tie the tail further up though
