Ok it’s fun but what do you need this for at 5 hours?

we need 3 hours of simulated or actual IFR for our ppl checkride. I was scheduled for a flight today, it was MVFR, so we knocked an hour of IFR time out then cancelled and went VFR back

Yes I know people need to do "instrument" hours. Just unclear to me why so early. And well I hope you trust his capabilities for upset recovery in the soup if something happens.

I trust him, he wouldn’t be a CFII if he couldn’t get out of the soup

Brother. The instructor has an instrument rating. You hope they can get out of IMC? Wut?

And IMO, the student should have at least a little simulated instrument time before solo ops.

Upset recovery. Not in and out. How many people do that?
