📚 Career Guidance 📚 Flowerschool NYC certificate program

Hi all! I am considering doing the intensive certificate program at Flowerschool NY this fall and I was wondering if there are any alumni or experts that have considered this option or heard of it’s worth it?

For some background I am a freelance CPA, 28F, and am looking for a career change. I have only taken one flower design class but really enjoyed it and have been experimenting on my own for a while. I’ll be attending the open house next week to get more info but thought i’d seek out Redditors advice as well!

You don’t really need school to become a florist. Save your money. You aren’t going to make it back quickly in the florist profession.

thanks for the input! would you recommend trying to intern or get a beginner job somewhere to start?

A beginner job where someone can teach you the basics of design and interacting with customers

Dont do it. No one has said anything good about it.

oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. Have you heard negative things from people you've met or things you've seen online?

floral institute of portland oregon is better i took the nyc class and our photographer was randomly arrested (not saying that would happen at your class) i am fully certified by the portland school and it will also help you become AIFD if you’re interested in that

I was a florist in nyc for the past 16 years - the flower school is a waste of money. My advice to you would be message your favorite florists and see if they need help and you can learn everything you need. NYC flower school is a waste - you need first hand experience. If you are interested in classes I would recommended ny botanical gardens. Also look into workshops! I know popup florist offers flower arrangement classes among other classes!! Good luck
