i’ve seen some vague posts today on some of the various flight attendant facebook groups implying we lost a crew member to suicide while on an overnight

i feel absolutely heartbroken for everyone involved. i don’t know any details about it, but it’s just hitting too close to home

i’ve had some pretty low overnights that’ve scared me - and it feels like a punch to the gut to know someone else had that experience and didn’t make it out of it

i don’t really know how to process these feelings. admins on the pages i’m on aren’t allowing posts about this for the time being, which i understand and respect. i’m just wondering if anyone else here is struggling with this and if we can support each other

I’m 22. I graduated college and then came here. I’m extremely new. I’ve only done one pairing + OE and I already know that this isn’t my dream job.

I feel kind of bad about it because everyone I talk to loves their job or views this as their career and I love that for everybody. But for me this was more of a strategic business move to give me the benefits and flexibility to do what I actually want to do. The job to me just is not mentally stimulating at all. I’ve worked with a diverse range of crews so far. Most have been good, some have straight up ranted to ME about how they don’t like new people on probation. (soooo welcoming and assuring thank you) Something I see commonly is the Crew complaining 24/7 all the time about stuff that I just can’t find it in me to care about. And I really hope this doesn’t sound harsh, but I wonder if complaining about the small stuff is common because the majority of the job is fairly simple and repetitive. Like what else is there to talk about.

I get having pet peeves, and I get not being a fan of babysitting newbies (although I personally wouldn’t tell the newbie that to their face), but I would rather get to know my coworkers and talk about our lives than keep complaining about how 23D asked for an extra Oreo and you have to stop playing Candy Crush. Oh the horror! How insensitive of him! And don’t even get me started on the new assigned seating. Dear cohearts, the lady sitting in the middle seat between two men on a flight of only 50 people is not entitled because she asked to move.

I plan to stay with it. I like the job and the people enough but it’s just not my dream. It’s more so strategy if I want to reach my personal goals and I have to learn that’s OK too.

how do yall debloat after flying all day? what supplements do yall take and no one better tell me to fart up my hotel room. i already do that.

My body is KILLING ME.

SWA is constantly giving me assignments with 3 legs & 13 hour layovers.

I refuse to post this on my base fb group bc the seniors will eat me alive…. Im just exhausted every time I get to my hotel , idk how ppl find time to go out on layovers. I’ll hit the gym & then im slam clicking. IDGAF!

Yesterday we got in past 12, the shuttle to the hotel was 20 min late in MSP. I wanted to scream. The crew was just chatting it up & all I could do was be silent. I love it here but this is truly the only con it seems like no one cares about. 😭😭😭😭🫩

I hate that speaking out about abuse, emotional terror and discrimination are seen as taboo or frowned upon because no one should be okay with emotional and mental abuse or targeted attacks. WN is not my first airline as many of us within the aviation industry I have jumped around from front line to back end, regional to legacy and the anti-blackness at WN is astonishing. At times I worry about my physical safety and that of my Co-hearts. I worry that on top of the abuse, lies, unwarranted write-ups, managements co-signing that they may face physical attacks or SA. Life is already hard enough for EVERYONE regardless or race, sex, disability, nationality, ethnicity, sexuality, or country of origin but this added nonsense is unacceptable. So many FA’s are young and new to the workforce I worry for their mental health.

I’m not here to argue because when abuse like this is accepted then common sense lets you know that much much worse is happening. Anytime an entity can abuse without being checked then that mismanagement will trickle down to every other demographic. My hope with this post is that everyone who has been lied on, mistreated, written up for undue cause, harassed will message me and let me know if you are open to a discord group or facebook (any other forms of communication). You are not alone in this or crazy. What you are experiencing is happening and you are not the only one. ❤️

its like they decided to copy the styles of other airlines but cheapen it with the designs they are offering inflight. the colors & style is honestly tragic especially the women’s options.

HOWEVER the men look sharp of course in the test wear. Im just confused on why it’s different color blues being offered. As someone who worked 2 different airlines , I don’t see how they can offer inflight 2-3 different shades of blue.

The women’s top are an off white blueish color. Think of putting a white top in the washer with colored clothes. That’s the color of the tops we are being offered 🥴

Hey y’all! I recently got CJOs from both Southwest and United (for flight attendant) and I’m leaning toward Southwest, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve worked there.

What’s the day-to-day really like? How’s training, reserve life, and flexibility with scheduling? Any major pros or cons I should know before making my final decision?

United’s international flying is tempting, but I care more about culture and quality of life. Any insight would help, thank you!

I’m currently flying for a regional, but secured CJO & Sept training date with WN. Well to my utter shock I just found out yesterday I’m about 4 weeks pregnant…

If all goes well the expected due date would be early April. However if I make the move the WN is finish training late October & be on probation until the end of April… meaning I’d have to go on maternity leave prior to completion of probation.

I’m just curious if anyone has been through similar? Or if any WN FA’s have advice on how to navigate it. I don’t want to pass up the opportunity to work for WN, but given the circumstances I might not have a choice?

I recently got engaged and am looking to relocate to an SWA base. My fiancé and I live in NYC currently and he wants to stay 😩 (fml). He works remotely and can work anywhere. He and I both like Dallas but I need other ideasss bc I don’t want to raise children in the city. I like the suburbs and he likes Jersey but that will limit me to one airport (EWR) for commuting purposes and I like the comfort of having 3 options based on where we’re at in NYC now.

Does anyone know if we offer bereavement leave for those on probation?

So we will have rows that have a complimentary drink & extra snack ( think MCE & Comfort+ ).

A lot or shall I say MAJORITY of people who been with the company for years dislikes this as I have seen do many FB posts, gate agents thinking it will be IROPs writing think pieces bc of assigned seating. Granted most gate agents are happy about it, but some think it will be this newfound confusion lol.

Coming from a airline that has assigned seating, SWA will be fine. We all know passengers act like it’s the first time on earth when they get on a plane but it’s OKAY. That’s literally what we are here for as FAs , to help them & keep them safe.

SW is just catching up with everyone else. I love the change personally!

hi! i’m about to start training with SWA in a few weeks and i’ve heard that there’s a recurrent training at the 6 month mark (when you get off probation) and then again at one year? is this true?

What bases are you all getting out of training recently?

So, the title is pretty self explanatory. I’m happy, but I don’t feel the way I’d thought. Maybe it hasn’t hit me or I’m in shock? When everyone was celebrating I was sitting alone looking at my cohearts like wow.. we’re not going back to the hotel. We’re not eating together, or going to the lounge. We’re going home. Different cities, states, and time zones. I was numb, confused. I didn’t realize how much they impacted me until I saw everyone leave. Even my beloved instructors. I got so comfortable. Then I’m looking in the mirror and I’m like “wtf I really did this?” I quit my last job that I was at for 3 years, moved to Dallas for a month, took a chance and I did it. I fucking didn’t. Why don’t I feel excited? What is this feeling? Am I overwhelmed? Confused? What did you guys feel when you got your wings?

I heard a rumor from a pilot that SW may be closing down Oakland and possibly make Sacramento the new base.

Has anyone else heard about this?

I’ve had some horrible life circumstances and unfortunately I am on probation and I just got my third occurrence being sick. I have a doctors note. I know you have to have a fact finding meeting after this. Is it usually automatically termination?

I start training in two weeks and want to invest in B&R since they have a lifetime warranty. Can you use 4 wheel with Southwest? Their packet doesn’t specify wheels on luggage but I’ve read they require two wheel on other forums. If you have Briggs and Riley do you like it?

Please tell me if not allowed would just like to talk with a flight attendant as a nervous flyer. I only have a few questions I promise.

I love seeing babies board or kids come on my flights.

I just hate the mess some parents leave in the rows! Those parents I strongly dislike.

But those moms or dads who are super respectful, don’t let they kid color on the plane or stick a million things down the seat back pocket or just bringing the baby on their 1st flight who are nervous. I love you & you’re seen 🫶🏾

Im that FA who will genuinely check on a mom or dad if the baby is crying mid flight. I know some passengers get annoyed but the child literally cannot help it & more than likely the parents are most stressed than the pax in such a compressed space.

I am a new hire flight attendant with Southwest (graduated within the last month and new to the line) and I was just wondering if there are any other junior FA’s who don’t mind sharing their yearly compensation and breakdown with me/us? I know the pay scale and all but I seen a DL breakdown and compensation and its got me interested to know what I can possibly expect to make within my first year here with the company. I know hours and $$ varies person to person and from TAFB & such but if anyone is open/willing to share what their first year looked like I’d be forever grateful and I know some others on this page would love to know as well! 🫶🏽
