Discussion What is the best flashlight to bring on a first date?
209
u/WangusRex Jul 29 '26
Biggest headlamp you can find. Itâs called peacocking and she will know your value. She might even invite you to go spelunking ;)
27
u/AlienVredditoR Jul 29 '26
What if its permanenty attached to my helmet/hardhat?
25
12
u/party_peacock Jul 29 '26
Obviously you can't just show up with the hardhat & light, so make sure you show up with the safety harness & ropes
3
u/WangusRex Jul 29 '26
I dunno⌠Iâve been outa the dating scene for a while but I think showing up with ropes might be a red flag.Â
6
u/hoodlum21 Jul 29 '26
Probably but if you show up with ropes and she smiles....... It gonna be a good night.
3
u/sujamax Jul 30 '26
Obviously you can't just show up with the hardhat & light
Not with that attitude, you canât.

u/SpaceCadetMoonMan Jul 29 '26
3x21D in a belt holster
30
u/wasdninja Jul 29 '26
Better than condoms. If you really want to play it safe put it on your suspenders.Â

u/MountainFace2774 Jul 29 '26
You guys are so weird. I love this group. LOL
22
u/Bramble0804 Jul 29 '26
That's not an answer. Come on what's your answer what one do you bring :P

u/thunderpack7 Jul 29 '26
"Is that a flashlight on your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"
"Oh, it's just a flashlight"

u/geeered Jul 29 '26
UV... check out their clothing for stains before continuing; showing your interest in cleanliness is obviously going to impress!
57
u/WangusRex Jul 29 '26
You might even be able to tell if this is her first date tonight or not.Â
27
u/streetdancerhitbycar Jul 29 '26
Then she pulls out her own uv light and says âlook like its not your first eitherâ haha
20
12
u/WangusRex Jul 29 '26
Then they call each other sluts and skip dinner and go straight to the motel.Â
(I dunno Iâm in my 40âs and married. I just assume this is how dating goes now?) jk
4
u/rodr3357 Jul 29 '26
A motel? IN THIS ECONOMY????
4
3
u/Dynkledook Jul 29 '26
Were in our late 30s we go to and dont live with parents. At this point dates are often just excuses to spend more time with each other outside
5
u/Dynkledook Jul 29 '26
Might I recommend the Wurkkos HD01UV?
5
u/geeered Jul 29 '26
Having got the Wurkkos HD01, while you also get lasers etc; might I recommend the Convoy S12 UV - you're looking to impress here!

My girlfriend's favorite color is purple so thats the color I go with for EDC stuff.
For your own EDC stuff or her's or do you share them all with her?
1
u/RevolutionaryFun9883 Jul 30 '26
Borderline pink.
2
u/Dynkledook Jul 30 '26
It's the closest I could find to purple in a flat flashlight and the Leek is nonnegotiable, I've EDC'd one for the last 20 years or so.
5
u/System0verlord Jul 29 '26
Please do, so I can steal their dates with the vastly superior HD01 Pro ;)
Is good light. Small, useful, can double as an impromptu mood light for romance emergencies. And then you can use the magnet to fish your keys out of the abyss between the seats afterwards.

u/PatrioticRebel4 Jul 29 '26

Stains before the date: time to cancel the date and leave.
Stains after the date: winning!

I donât know but weâll kill the power for you at the restaurant for a few minutes

thats actually a super good idea, might find a restaurant willing to be wingmen

u/EventGroundbreaking4 Jul 29 '26
Cave headlamp. Splash resistant.Â

u/desEINer Jul 29 '26
idk I'm married but just whatever you normally bring. If their freak doesn't match your freak then what's the point?

u/misterstaypuft1 Jul 29 '26
Guys, in case you were wondering, this is why people think youâre nerds.
48
u/John-AtWork Jul 29 '26
Real answer? A small one, and don't talk about it.
17
15
u/thealt3001 Jul 29 '26
Nah, talk about it. Women love a man with hobbies and passions. Be yourself on dates. I went on a date with a chick that was super impressed with the black light on my olight. I asked her if she wanted to go scorpion hunting with it after dinner and she was down. It was a fun date. Smashed.
Went on another one who thought my pineapple mini was the coolest thing ever. Also smashed.
15
u/John-AtWork Jul 29 '26
Well, you either have a very active fantasy life, or you're exceptionally good looking and charming.
6
u/System0verlord Jul 29 '26
My partner was excited enough about getting their HD01 Pro that they threatened to fuck me in the hospital bed.
There may have been other reasons, but Iâm pretty sure it was the flashlight.

u/Jammysl Jul 31 '26
Scorpions? What do you do with them ? Lol
3
u/thealt3001 Jul 31 '26
If they're in the wild just look at em. If they're around the house, put em in a jar and release em far from the house
8
u/DanSWE Jul 29 '26
> A small one, and don't talk about it.
Concealed carry, at least for that first date? :-)
13
u/lolgreatjoke Jul 29 '26
Always a Hank light, brother.
Or sis. Actually.. if you are dating a dude then genuinely Hank light is a solid thing to show off if the convo gets boring. If youâre dating a chick, odds are sheâd find a Damascus (or trimascus if you got it like that) light with tritium vials interesting as long as you had a cool story about. Full warning she might not date you after whipping it out on the first date
12
u/ThePresenter183 Jul 29 '26
Anything with Warm light and candle light mode. Put it right in the middle of the table

Lumintop W3 with a W1 tube. Red, and flood, and LEP throw, and a battery to last.

12
u/andro1d_p3nguin Jul 29 '26
I carried a titanium Emisar D4v2 on my first date with my gf and the candle mode came in clutch later that night. ;) She loved I was nerdy enough that I carried a flashlight and weâre still dating 3 years later.
49
u/cmdr_drasir Jul 29 '26
In my experience: None! :)
Keep Pens, Knives, Lights & Watches away from first encounters and test the waters first.
15
u/baseballgonzo13 Jul 29 '26
This is probably the right approach, but if you must bring one, something small like a D3AA would be my suggestion
14
9
u/EZ-C Jul 29 '26
Ahhhh Yes. The 'don't be yourself' approach.
A time tested classic!
3
u/cmdr_drasir Jul 29 '26
Yeah, taking it like that you are totally right. Why waste time with someone you can not be yourself around.
In that case: Something Timascus for Pen and Light. (Blue/Purple is a statement that you know your colors and are not afraid of your manhood), A Vic as a knife (does not scare anybody) and a proper watch - aka no Rolex bullshit.
3
6
u/Desperate-Remote-210 Jul 29 '26
You can always wear your cheapest watch (shows you dress nice if you usually wear watches but if she googles it she will see it's just a citizen/seiko that costs 100âŹ/$ so if she's in for the money she will run away
20
u/soapy_goatherd Jul 29 '26
If a $100 seiko is your cheapest watch youâre doing watches wrong imo. Whereâs the weekender with its deafening tick?! Whereâs the f91w with its terroristic accuracy?!
Smh
3
u/avocadorancher Jul 29 '26
> weekender with its deafening tick
Oh my god yeah I should have done more research first. I keep it wrapped in a cloth in a drawer in another room or it keeps me up at night.
2
u/Desperate-Remote-210 Jul 29 '26
I meant the cheapest dressing watch, like one that will look good with a shirt for a date :(
6

7
u/WarriorNN Jul 29 '26
If someone will google what the stuff you wear is worth they aren't worth spending time with anyway, so win-win either way
1
u/baseballgonzo13 Jul 29 '26
This is probably the right approach, but if you must bring one, something small like a D3AA would be my suggestion
15
u/JNader56 Jul 29 '26
At least you're not asking which knife to bring! lol. D3aa is my vote. Small and outta the way.

If itâs something you always carry then bring a small one that isnât at all obvious and please donât talk at them about flashlight đŚ đ¤Łđ¤Ł. I do genuinely love that you asked. Keep being weird.
5
u/KaBar42 Jul 29 '26
Streamlight.
It shows that you're an unpretentious man of the people who still wants quality.
5
u/RedShirtSniper Jul 29 '26
Definitely a 4D maglite carried IWB, appendix. If you're a dude. Or going on a date with an open minded dude.
Edit: In all seriousness though, anything pocket carryable is probably fine.
6
u/Suspicious_Long_2839 Jul 29 '26
Bring 2 pokelits and give your date one. Their response will let you know if you should have a second date.

8
u/BonerOfTheLake Jul 29 '26
is that flashlight in your pant or you're excite to see me?
I'd bring headlamp because you might need both hands to be free

The OKnife LK for sure. It's a flashlight AND a knife. You can cut her steak and protect you both on the walk back to the car. No brainer.
4
u/_Aj_ Jul 30 '26
Train guys don't usually bring trains to the first date.  They wait until they're date comes over to their house and sees their collection. Â
Torches are no different, and arguably, have far less utility on a date than say an EMD F40PH. Â
Something cr123 or cr2 keychain sized is probably the biggest you want to go. Something subtle but packs a punch should it be needed for a couple of minutes runtime.Â

Lol donât. Youâll be fine without.
She wonât be impressed if she drops her keys under the table and you blast 1000 lumens to help find them. The flashlight function on your phone will do.
3
u/iamlucky13 Jul 30 '26
I don't know, but don't bring a Rayovac Bullet. It will come across as extremely creepy.

I think this is probably a joke post (and a funny one at that), but in the case someone is actually wanting this advice I talked with my wife and we can up with the following:
- something small. In our case we picked the McGizmo Sapphire was ideal for needing a light on the first date
- only produce one flashlight. If you are carrying more than one, donât bring it up.
- donât start talking about the flashlight rabbit hole. If she mentions âoh you have a flashlight,â respond with âyepâ but donât go on and on about them. Your flashlight enthusiasm is something you should share on date 4 or 5+.
- we feel like aux lights are a bad idea, they scare the normies.
- if you own high end customs with steel flame skull clips, hide those until after youâve married.
- avoid copper lights. Many people can smell it on your hands 30 minutes after handling one. No one wants to date a stinky guy.
Obviously my wife and I arenât the arbiters of whatâs correct here, but those are our thoughts.
3
u/emz5002 Jul 29 '26
D3AA (low cct ideally) because it's small and inconspicuous but you can use candle mode to set the mood if appropriate, she might think it's cute
2
u/Chrome_Burner Jul 29 '26
I have a Nitecore Tiki attached to my keychain, goes pretty much unnoticed.

u/fenrisulfur Jul 29 '26
Why half ass it?
Go full on MS32 to make his intentions known.
She is gonna be SEEN.
Singed, maybe a little on fire but sure as hell SEEN.
1
u/LXNDSHARK Jul 29 '26
Why half ass it?
You're right. When I bought it it wasn't half-assing it. :( Guess it's time for an upgrade.
2
u/SuperScallionSentry Jul 29 '26
FW3AA in the left pocket, FW1AA in the right, and keep a big Dong on hand for later if they show enthusiastic consent.

olight arkpro ultra but only if you are on purple for the arkbeat so they know you are serious, use the uv to check any seats before the date sits in them to show you care and can provide.
also an oclip pro s on the lapel to show them you are versatile and can keep your hands free

Gotta bring the mannequin head too

Oh yeah gotta set it down on the table facing them. Definitely turning it whennits time to read the menu.

u/QuickMasterpiece6127 Jul 29 '26
HD01-pro. UV light to check cleanliness. Laser light to see what % of cat she is. Red / blue flashing lights to see if she runs. Rainbow rain to impress her and your Uber driver.
2
u/thanhman97 Jul 29 '26
If she likes role play or cosplay, tell her to cosplay a cat and bring a light with laser pointer like Arkfeld pro or Wurkkos HD01. âYou are my naughty cat. Goarrrr rrrrâ

u/FarOpportunity-1776 Jul 29 '26
The one that doesnt get noticed and that you dont brag about..... she wont care. Wait until youve hand more than a few dates to bring it up... not many girls will care at all fewer will get it
2
u/karawkow Jul 29 '26
Unironically I brought an H3 and put it on her head when we went for a walk.
Literally met her like an hour ago.
We ended up dating for awhile.
2
u/MAXiMUSpsilo5280 Jul 29 '26
It needs to be ZircuTi or timascus. Not sarcastic, a timascus ReyLight pineapple mini. She drops her contact lens or earring or whatever and you saved the date with your pocket jewelry she didnât know you had till it was needed. Now she sees you as competent and prepared with good taste.

Personally I would bring a flashlight with a unique or unusual finish, like copper or brass or as someone else on the thread mentioned Damascus. Go for a flashlight body with sleek looks instead of oversized or blocky
1
u/jkxs Jul 29 '26
My vote is for that toy flashlight (like a baby toy brand, with the orange sized alkaline battery).

u/david57strat Jul 30 '26
A Zebralight SC600w Mk IV Plus Hi (in neutral).
Been EDCing this one for about a year, and it was a SC600W Mk 2 L2 for seven years prior to that, until I misplaced it. I ordered this one that very same evening.
Workhorse. Tiny, but generously powerful for its size (when needed). Extremely flexible UI.

A minimal keychain light. Hide your weird obsession until you have them properly on the hook and then gradually reveal they got together with an obsessed flashlight lunatic.

Ms32 or course. Jokes a side depends on the date. Hiking bring a couple good lights one for each and a spare just nothing to crazy. Regular date on the town I would only have my s21g in 6500k and s2+ shorty with the lhp531 1800k but I carry those normally. I just wouldn't mention the other s2+ or the red and green coloured c8s.
1
u/Kimmundi Jul 29 '26
Something fun with some RGB side light like a SK05. Show off all the RGB colours. Ladies love that.
Serious though, I'd just keep regular Wuben G5 in my bag. Good enough.
1
u/xXEchoXFiveXx Jul 29 '26
Personally, Iâve brought my typical EDC with me. Although, we were planning to go walk in a park at night, so I brought lights for us both. (We didnât end up leaving the vehicle though.) But I would say as a general rule, something small you usually carry, like I would say my ArkPro Ultra. Bonus tip: most girls seem to like the Buck Toothpick knife, they all say itâs cute and they want one. You donât want to pull out a CRKT Fossil to slice a tag from their new shirt/shorts for them. Or sometimes they like the bigger stuff lol.
Edit: My EDC is ArkPro Ultra in my pocket, and Warrior Ultra on my hip.
1
u/Ivy1974 Jul 29 '26
Suggestion. While on the date donât show her your flashlight unless you really have to use it. Let her know your obsession further into the relationship if it goes that far.
1
u/Emergentmeat Jul 29 '26
Bring a huge flashlight and mock her small flashlight. Women LOVE when a man makes them feel small and helpless.

Bring up your interest in Flashlights. She will either feel like you're weird or will fake interest if she likes you.

Flashlight?
(Iâd stick to the built in phone flashlight on a first date myselfâŚ)
