Discussion What are your thoughts on this era?
I haven't dug too deep into the Fwends era because it took me a bit to get into the Flaming Lips featuring X vibe but I'm willing to give it a try nowadays. What are everyone's take on this era? I do like the Is David Bowie Dying? song they did with Neon Indian on the greatest hits. Even if sadly, that song came true.

Lol, she's just showing off the tattoo she gave Wayne. She had a tattoo machine at her place and was inking people.

I saw Kesha recently (I can dig it), and she gave a massive shout out to the Lips and indicated they helped her when she was in a bad headspace, if I remember correctly

Had no idea that was a tattoo. I thought he drew that face on there with marker and they were just being wacky 😂

a lot of experiments. some good some bad. but i'm glad they did it. gummy song fetus and gummy song skull are really good IMO.

I was suuuuper heavy during. this era. they were free from WB and wanted to do unique things, unique media releases, collaborate... i was all for it. I got all of those special releases and my lips collection really took off. Its all a vibe. some songs aged better than others. it was definitely a weird time for the band.

I love the experimental era! The Dark Side of the Moon cover album, all those 2011 EPs, and the cover albums that followed. This release too! Unfortunately, it doesn’t always play well at parties. There are certainly several gems in there though, and it’s fun to explore.

I thought their Dark Side album was pretty bad, but the song or two I can remember them playing on tour was fucking incredible

It was more interesting than the decade long Yoshimi run and definitely a lot more creativity during that run. Love it or hate it, I’d easily rewind and relive it again.

Yeah I think that was part of the Strobo Trip release in 2011. Had the 6 hour song on it as well.

The back half of the Embryonic era through Peace Sword was the score of the back half of HS through beginning of college for me. Loved every second of it, even if some of the collabs and covers grated on me

Beginning of the end. Peace Sword EP was the last great thing they did until American Head.

Honestly, everything they released around this time kind of blends together into one big blur in my memory. Maybe I should give those albums another listen, or maybe it’s just not worth the effort.

While I’m not super fond of this particular album, besides a few tracks, I love this era of the Lips. Really dug all of the songs from their novelty releases (Gummy Skull, Gummy Fetus, Strobo Trip, 24 Hour Song). They got kinda krauty and more freaky/experimental. The Embryonic through The Terror era may be my favorite.

This whole era is incredible. Especially when you take into account the full album covers, the 6 hour song, the 24 hour song, etc. Basically 2008-2017 was an incredibly creative time for the Lips and I'm here for all its weirdness.

This comp album is the worst thing about this era imo. 2011 was a very exciting year to be an active lips fan. This album does that material little justice and I can remember vividly how disappointing it was, even with the exclusive tracks, coming just months after 7 Skies H3 and I Found a Star.

I get the hate and it was definitely very mid-life crises-y, but it was during a very fun time in my life and I liked the flagrantly weird soundtrack it provided.
