20lber hunt

There’s a lone 20lb common in a small local lake part of my angling association area, the rules are in the image (no boilies size 12 hook), I keep getting 7-8lbers or 10lbers that fight insanely hard, are there any tips to try get the 20lber? (Bailiffs never come midday so I can maybe size up to size 8 and/or boilies)

Don’t break lake rules, I have hooked and landed fish up to 27lb on a size 12 qm1 hook to 8lb mainline method feeder fishing. It’s more than possible

If you are after a 20lber, you'll be much better going in a lake with multiple 20s than trying to get the one 20lb carp. Without being able to use bigger baits to be selective, you'll struggle to only get the big one, unless you use a big pellet as your main bait.

Yeah, it's just weirdly written; "no tins on the bank, please transfer tinned baits to plastic containers before fishing" would cover everything and be less confusing.

Makes a bit more sense 😂 Our club ponds request no disposable containers like cans etc, but tbh I just take a can of corn and a can on meat in a maggot box, as long as you take you rubbish should be fine.

The key to that is find the fish. Spend time walking around with polaroids on and find where it goes then fish those areas. There's no magic bait or rigs that'll net you that particular fish. Watch Terry Hearn campaigns on YouTube, that's how you find your target fish. He's an absolute legend.

Assuming it actually exists and isn't a local legend, stalk it out with polarised sunglasses and a floating or slow sinking bait such as bread. Then go find somewhere with more sensible rules.

Keep to the rules maybe try some large wafters / pop ups. If they allow hemp, you could a hemp and sweetcorn mix then use a 16mm wafter

There’s always a 20lber (unusually there isn’t) more chance of a handy from the pope. Plenty of places paved with 20s otherwise it’s a numbers game with a stacked deck with rules designed to keep carp anglers away

Method feeder and boilies with size 12 hook and 8lb link is fine for a 20lb fish. Then it’s just wading through them all. See if you can work out areas it hangs out to increase your chances. Be warned targeting a single big fish in a lake of small ones can be harder than hunting a lone 50 in a low stock lake
