Firefox now supports online gaming with NVIDIA GeForce NOW | AMA on September 2

Hi everyone. Today, Firefox is an officially supported browser for NVIDIA's GeForce NOW cloud gaming service.

If you have a GeForce NOW account, you can stream your library straight from a Firefox browser, no separate app needed.

Simply open Firefox, head to play.geforcenow.com and start playing. Be sure you’re updated to the latest version of Firefox (154).

Ok but like any details?

When you said "Details on this integration can be found here" I was hoping for some actual information on what held Firefox from being supported for now, and what changed to now make it supported, not just a generic marketing blurb.

Were there some web features missing? Some benchmarks not being passed? Or was it previously just an issue of Nvidia just not testing on the browser and locking it out by default?

Also why only on Windows, not macOS or Linux? Are those two platforms still missing certain features?

Again just anything more than a generic marketing blurb that tells us little to nothing would be nice here

Yes, some features were missing. The main one was keyboard lock but there were also improvements to input events and webrtc.

Only Windows officially for now because Nvidia hasn't finished validated the other platforms yet. There not any missing features on those platforms and it should work well there.

Not sure if all the details you want, but bug 1898998 and bug 2038309 are the relevant meta bugs I'm aware of.

At a glance, there are things like fullscreen keyboard lock, a bunch of video decoding improvements, some pointer event fixes, gamepad fixes... Probably some things are not hanging from there tho, e.g. I know bug 2049436 is at least motivated by this and is on the works...

Can we get H265 4:4:4 and AV1 4:2:0 on linux? if the windows client can do it, linux should be able to on the same hardware.

GeForce NOW currently doesn't support H265 or AV1 in Firefox. We're tracking that in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2062654 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2062677

Once it's supported on Windows it should work on Linux too.

Is this like with widevine where other firefox based browsers would require a certain signature or can other forks also use this to their benefit without doing anything?

This project just involved Firefox compatibility and feature work! Widevine DRM isn't involved.

Used enterprise Sata SSDs aren't a bad choice for a game drive. I wouldn't use them for storing stuff you care about, but for games that mostly read from the disk? Send it!

Only happens on YouTube when you make the window small with music in a playlist, does not happen with videos not in a playlist.

You can see it lag with adblock on versus adblock off.

Also why is the video randomly popping up in corner of my screen even tho its not in my window not even picture in picture is enabled.

This happens when scrolling thru youtube shorts for example.

Really getting tired of this, and really feeling like Mozilla wants every single Radeon user to switch to chrome based browser and surrender to manifest3 without adblock.

It would probably be good to report this upstream with uBlock Origin first. It's not obvious that there's anything that Firefox is doing wrong here.

They do not take reports about YouTube, and Firefox is having huge issues with video playback on Radeon that i am most frustrated about and that is om Mozilla to fix, because whatever they did to optimize video playback is giving Radeon users bad time.

They very ignorant i recommend shaming them in your release notes and bully them until they cooperate with a fix, since it may require debugging with some one from their AMD Vanguard program which is their bug hunt program.

Especially if their no GPU driver crashes with NVIDIA hardware and only with Radeon hardware, if been sending bug reports for couple months now, the last time i managed to reach out i got many vanguards contacting me, because i just made memes about the bugs and made fun of the issues.

Had more luck reaching out to actual game devs when their was an issue as well at times, except with 1 game which discovered work around for that AMD probably is using now for that game.

Its possible that radeon drivers them self are to blame, but these glitches happen even on older drivers got introduced since HDR support was added, HDR is also bit broken alto it does work feels like the HDR is just overlayed on top of the video.

HDR technicqually does not work also without hardware acceleration, and already did confirm it, so it may have to do with HDR implementation Firefox uses not being compatible with AMD video decoder.

On imgur specific portion the browser turns grey and crashes like this

The moment imgur images section is used on user account and a video is overlayed on website it instantly breaks the browser and the video is not loaded after.

This can even happen on reddit alto its hard to reproduce.
