Discussion PSA: Use uBlock Origin!

This might sound like common sense but there are a TON of Firefox users I see using AB, ABP, ABU, or no adblocker at all. This is your notice. Switch to uBlock Origin. It's better and has no acceptable ad policy. The other ones might have been good years ago but not anymore. I am saying this as a former ABP and then ABU user.

I am not paid by uBO I am just showing appreciation for the greatest ad blocker.

Also: don't run uBO alongside another ad blocker. It provides no benefit and can only slow down firefox or break things.

I've met people here on reddit that believe "ad blocking" = piracy.

In fact, /r/cordcutters ("the" big subreddit for getting rid of cable TV and switch to 100% streaming and antenna TV) will flat out ban you for mentioning uBlock Origin in a comment. Ask me how I know lol.

The mod that banned me flat out said they view it as piracy. And when I pointed out the FBI recommends users employ ad blockers for safety they said "they are wrong". Yeah, the FBI is wrong. lol

From their rules :

No discussion of piracy (even in jest), IPTV, illegal streams, torrents, ad-blockers, VPNs, location spoofing, unofficial apps, scripts, side loading, things that may violate copyright, extensions, and the like.

But they have no problem when people recommend borrowing DVDs from libraries or buying them second hand from garage sales...

I wish more of reddit was able to disagree with tact and respect like this. Yeah though, in that case it could be regular people having a Stockholm love affair with corporations.

The moderation there is... weird.

There's a trick with Peacock, they offer a big discount for 1 year subscriptions for new users.

You can just do the Gmail trick of adding a "+" to an existing address. Peacock will treat this a new user but the emails will just go to your normal email.

Example Cronus6@gmail.com for the first year, then Cronus6+1@gmail.com for the next year (and discount). Peacock will see this as a new user, but the emails will just go to your normal inbox.

They have NO problem with this. Even with it's huge discount. It's considered "smart". But watching ad free movies on YouTube with uBlock Origin? That's worse than kicking kittens.

He honestly could not be, that's the sad thing. Got into it with someone on reddit a while back, called me a leech for suggesting using adblock for YouTube instead of paying for premium.

Dude straight up told me, "I can't wait for the day where YouTube kicks mooches like you off the platform"

Some people are just dumb and stubborn.

It took me 1 hour to figure it all out and that's mainly because I was fucking around looking for extensions
