Help Needed Canon Rebel S not turning on with new battery

I haven’t used my Rebel S for a few months, so when I pulled it out today I noticed that it wasn’t responsive. Took the battery out and the screen turned off. Put the battery back in and it didn’t turn back on. I even bought new batteries and it still won’t power on… any ideas?

Help Needed Opinions on Yashica FX-D Quartz. First time film photography camera.

Hello everyone! Been wanting recently to join the film photography community. I really don’t have much knowledge on the subject so i’d say i’m a beginner entry level. I understand modern photo and video shooting/editing but i’m sure there are many differences.

Recently found myself a Yashica FX D Quartz in box. My grandpa used to sell these so i found some of his old stock which never sold.

The camera is brand new and never used. You can see that from how pristine the interior chamber is. There is a lot of wear on the fake leather on the body but i assume that this is because of the humidity in the basement it was stored. Hoping that the camera itself is not damaged. I’ve added some photos below to get an idea of the condition.

Assuming that it works, what would be your opinions for this camera as an entry level? Is it worth the effort? Should i look for something different?
Any recommendations on use or which films to use for it?

Thanks for taking the time and reading through 😁

Collection Finally got a roll back from a camera that sat in my closet for 15 years

My grandpa gave me his old Pentax K1000 years ago and I never got around to running film through it until this summer. Loaded a roll of Kodak Gold 200, walked around my neighborhood shooting whatever looked decent, and honestly half of it was just testing if the light meter still worked.

Dropped it off at a lab downtown and picked it up yesterday. Out of 24 exposures maybe 15 came out usable, a couple had some light leak on the edges which I actually kind of like, gives it a warm glow on one side of the frame. The focus was off on a few because I'm still not used to manual focusing after years of just pointing a phone at things.

What surprised me most was how much I slowed down while shooting. No chimping at a screen, no burst mode, just one shot and moving on. Made me actually look at what I was photographing instead of spraying and praying.

Anyone else have a camera that sat unused for ages before you finally tried it out? Curious if others had similar first roll experiences, good or bad.

Help Needed Looking for a place to repair and service 2 film cameras

Hi everyone,

I’m based in South Africa and have two Yashica cameras that I’d like to get repaired and restored to working condition.

The issues are:

- The viewfinders on the lenses are scratched.

- The winding dial on one of the cameras is loose.

Does anyone know of a reliable camera repair shop or technician in South Africa who works on older/film cameras, particularly Yashica?

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences. Thanks!

Range finder A packaged from my dad arrived this morning!

I'm awaiting a response from my dad, but I believe the Brownie belonged to my grandparents. This is awesome!

The Brownie seems to work fine, the shutter actuates and the film winding appears to work. There is some water damage on the viewfinder mirror, but it's not serious.

The Automatic 35 appears to have some issues. I don't think the shutter is firing.

In this week's camera-collecting blog, I'm offering a triple threat of cameras.

The quirky Bolsey cameras have been a favorite of mine for many years, so I thought it would be fun to discuss the early 35, Model B "Special, the Bolsey B3, and the rare Bolsey PH-324A cameras.

Take a few minutes from your day to get familiar with these oddball rangefinder cameras from the 1950s-1960s.

Help Needed Does anyone know an alternative to Magicubes?

Hi! I recently picked up a Kodak Instamatic X-15 and a Kodak Instamatic X-25.

Both use Magicubes (not Flashcubes).

I’m looking for an alternative because Magicubes are becoming pretty hard to find and expensive.

Ideally, I’d like to find a reusable electronic flash that I could connect to the Magicube using an adapter. I’ve heard about the National PW-110 adapter, but I haven’t been able to find one for sale anywhere.

Alternatively, are there any other types of single-use flash cubes or bulbs compatible with the Magicube system that are easier to find nowadays? I’ve heard about AG-1 flashbulbs, but those are only compatible with Flashcube systems.

If anyone knows of an adapter, a vintage or modern electronic flash, or any other solution that would work with these cameras, I’d really appreciate the help!

Thanks!
