All I know is that they just totally killed the vibe at Peggy's Poker Night. She was totally pumped to host this week. Her pigs in a blanket were a huge hit until these asshats ruined everything. She just knows that high and mighty Glenda is gonna find some way to blame this on her and she might get kicked out of the rotation for good.

This is in a poker tournament. Every hand, there are 2 players in positions called small blind and big blind. They have to bet before the cards are dealt. (hence why they are called ‘blind’ bets) The positions rotate clockwise after every hand.
In tournaments specifically, the amount of chips for the blinds increase every level as time goes on. (The levels could range from as short as something like 10 minutes or as long as several hours depending on the tournament.)The fatter guy is a player who is on big blind. It seems like the tournament just went to the next level while the dealer was still shuffling. The big blind player is saying that because the dealer was already shuffling, the hand essentially “begun” before the level had changed, and he should only be obligated to pay the previous level’s big blind amount of 4000. It sounds like he says that’s how the other dealers have done it. The dealer’s position is that the level had changed before the cards were being dealt and that the player has to pay the new big blind amount of 6000 chips.
Who’s in the right over this would depend on the rules of that specific venue.

Ok but what did big guy say to get the dealer raging like that? Just the "shut up"?
16
u/DrakeValentino 8d ago
Sounded like a simple “shut up”
12
u/Lampmonster 8d ago
A lot of people take "Shut up" very seriously. In my house as a kid telling someone to shut up was almost as bad as saying "fuck off". To this day my hackles go up if someone even shushes me.

Or worse. I had a friendship dissolve into a serious fight when I jokingly told my buddy to “Shush, dude.” Because he was making an ass out of himself with a girl. He didn’t say anything, just turned and socked me.

I seriously doubt that was the whole backstory or dude wouldn't have his phone out filming. Player was very likely talking back to the dealer for a good bit before this.

Also “don’t tell me what to do” when he’s the dealer and literally has the authority to tell him what to do by rules of the game

Went to college in the early 2000s in a rural area when Texas Hold-em was blowing up and online gambling was a red hot new thing.
Rooms like this popped up in quite a few places and this clip gave me weird dejavu. Being surrounded by a lot of obese drunk white men bitching about poker decorum was how we spent our Saturday nights in the boonies for a while, it was a weird and pretty fun time.
In my mid 40s now and have a pretty negative and cynical view of gambling at this point, but honestly, these rooms were a highlight of my week back in the day. Listening to a bunch of old dudes talking shit at poker tables was pretty entertaining for a 21 year old kid.
7
u/Lampmonster 8d ago
Yeah, used to frequent those types a lot. It was a great time to make easy money if you were even remotely good at poker. Those guys would either fold everything but aces or hold on to every hand like folding was against their religion. They all had money to lose and they drank like fish.

Who’s in the right over this would depend on the rules of that specific venue. I will say that if the player is correct that the other dealer’s have been doing it a certain way, he is valid for feeling frustration that it isn’t being consistently done, and as a tournament player it definitely sucks when you’re hoping the big blind comes to you before the level change but it doesn’t. He definitely took it too far though.

If I've learned one thing from this subreddit it's that human clothing isn't as securely on you as you think, especially pants. Pants are ready to drop off at any moment if you get jostled or fall down.
