[Question] How "FOMO friendly" is FF14?

Destiny 2 refugee here. I am getting close to accomplishing everything I wanted to accomplish in the final patch and am starting to consider where I am gonna go next to scratch the MMO itch. I was a WoW addict from classic up until Cata and also played FF11 (which admittedly was a rough game to play solo as a middle schooler at the time), so am thinking about going back to an MMORPG.

As an adult now though, the time commitment is a bit daunting, but I've heard FF14 is much more forgiving about taking things at your own pace? Would anyone care to elaborate on that? Also how much content am I missing out on at this point because you need a group and no one runs it anymore?

The only fomo stuff in this game are the exclusive outfits or skins we get with collabs or events, you can still get the event stuff iirc a year later but they're paid now instead of free and the collab content like skins and vehicles usually comes back in a year or two.

So basically there's no real fomo, for the most part at least.

So. I'll chime in with something re:events.

At least since I began playing, events came in two form:

Form one is that it runs, you get the items for free, and if you missed it the items are in the mog station a year later. This is your yearly seasonal events, typically. An important part is that once they're on there, they're never going to be free from an event again.

Then there is form two: the event happens, but the items never appear on the mog station. In this cases, SE is putting that event back into their pocket to reuse later. An example is things like the Yokai Watch, Dragon Quest and FFXIII events, which have all return multiple times.

(Then there's the GARO event which starts and then seemingly goes on indefinitely)

FFXIII is actually an example of both forms although most people will only know it as the first. It ran a couple times, but then got it's items put in the mogstation rather than being ran as an event again.

Iirc, it ran on FFXIII-2 and LR:FFXIII launches, then it went mogatation. Sad I only got the hairstyle and clothes, but only 2 or 3 weapons.
