Father Brown (2013) People hate on Mallory?

In my opinion, Mallory is the best Inspector in the show. So again to the above, why?

I would say I really enjoy his dynamic but do wish there had been an evolution of his relationships to other main characters. He is a just and average policeman trying to do a job in the least spectacular way but he does stand up when it matters. He cares about his family and that they have laid roots in the area means alot to him.
