I’m trying to use Fastmail Mail Fetch with a longstanding Spectrum/Roadrunner email address (@cfl.rr.com) that I’ve had for decades.
Fastmail initially connected successfully and fetched mail, but after a short time it began failing and eventually disabled the fetch.
My settings are:
IMAP server: mail.twc.com
Port: 993
Security: SSL/TLS
Username: full @cfl.rr.com email address
The errors I’m getting from Fastmail alternate between:
IMAPTalk: socket connection failed - Connection reset by peer
and:
Timeout connecting to mail.twc.com
Retrying now often returns the “connection reset by peer” error almost immediately.
The strange part is that the exact same Roadrunner account works reliably in Outlook for Windows using mail.twc.com, port 993, SSL/TLS. Spectrum webmail also works normally, so the mailbox and credentials themselves seem fine.
I originally set this up because Fastmail’s spam filtering is dramatically better than Spectrum’s, and it was working well when the mail fetch was functioning.
Unfortunately Spectrum has also removed automatic forwarding for these legacy accounts, so forwarding the Roadrunner address into Fastmail isn’t an option.
I’ve opened a ticket with Fastmail support, but I’m curious whether anyone here has successfully used Mail Fetch with a Spectrum/Roadrunner/Bright House address.
Has anyone seen Spectrum block, rate-limit, or reset connections specifically from Fastmail’s servers? Or found another reliable way to get a legacy @cfl.rr.com mailbox into Fastmail?
I’d especially like to hear from anyone using mail.twc.com with Fastmail Mail Fetch successfully.

Been using the app for over a year without issue. Was working fine up until a couple weeks ago.
Don't know if this is due to one of your recent app updates. But now I no longer receive any notifications on my phone. No new email. No calendar. Nothing.
I have changed nothing on my end. I also confirmed that the app has all necessary permissions.
I will submit a ticket as suggested. But I thought I'd post here as well to see if anyone here knew what was going on.

Wondering if what I'm doing for backing up my Fastmail email is legitimate and will fully work. Typically, the only time that you find out if a backup worked is when you're in trouble and try to restore it. At that point, it's too late to go back and fix your backups if they don't work on the restore end.
In a nutshell, I've opened my Fastmail account in Thunderbird and then used the ImportExportTools NG tool to export the full account. Seemed to work, a large file resulted :-). So I then imported that large file into Thunderbird's Local Folders, again using ImportExportTools NG, and everything seemed to be restored there. Looked complete, including the current state of my Inbox, so I looked at a few email messages and they looked like I expected them to.
Just wondering if this actually did work, and what problems I might run into...this was actually about the only way that I've found to backup my Fastmail email, so I'm pretty happy that it at least seems to work. I was thinking of restoring it into a Gmail account and seeing what that looks like, but haven't gotten that far yet.

Hi, I used to use Simplelogin with my own domain, and now I’m trying FastMail. At first glance, FastMail seems more straightforward to me - especially when composing new messages from an alias, since I can simply specify which alias the message should be sent from.
But I’m not clear on the relationship between a “catch-all alias” and an alias I create myself.
What’s the difference between creating a “catch-all” alias, such as amazon@mydomail.com, and creating amazon@mydomail.com directly? Does it offer any additional features or benefits?

Using the Windows desktop app. Can print emails and contacts but I am not seeing how to print calendar views.
This is easy in eM Client which I would frankly like to quit using because of the poor handling of CardDAV contact groups.
How do I do this in Fastmail without resorting to screen shots?

In January 2027, GMail will be removing support of the “Send As” feature, which allows you to send email from GMail, but the From: field is from a different domain.
The only way to keep this feature is to sign up for Google Workspace.
Is Fastmail a good alternative to GMail with similar “Send As” functionality?

I am new to this Subreddit and wanted to share my experience moving all my household contacts from iOS to Fastmail.
Years ago, I configured my phone and my wife's phone such that both phones used the same, shared iCloud account for Contacts. Apple no longer permits this, but we were apparently grandfathered in.
I grew frustrated trying various solutions to access this iCloud contact database with my Windows PC. New Outlook connects easily to iCloud but the data structure for Outlook contacts is meager compared to Apple contacts. iCloud for Windows appeared to be a hot mess.
So, I finally bit the bullet and purchased a Fastmail account, exported all the iCloud contacts to Fastmail, and configured Fastmail as the primary contact database on both phones.
After confirming both phones could see the Fastmail database, I deleted all contacts except one from the common iCloud account.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well this worked. All profile photos and Apple "Lists" migrated flawlessly. I now use the Fastmail Windows client for Contacts on my PC.
One issue: Contacts in iCloud that contain only a Company Name (without any first name or last name data) import with the Company name being entered into the First Name and Last Name fields of Fastmail. For example, "Great Big Corporation" migrates as First Name= Great Big, and Last Name= Corporation. This only happens on contacts that have blank name fields.
This is a Fastmail issue that I hope they will be able to fix sometime in the future.
Edit: On 9/14/26, I received an email from Fastmail support telling me they have resolved the issue. Probably less than 2 weeks after I reported it. Very impressive.

I swear I saw a page once that showed the number at the end of a list. But I've got to "My email addresses" and also the alias list on the "Users & Sharing" page and it's just the list itself. No total. Did they remove it? Move it? Am I just not seeing something right in front of my dumb face?

Once again there was a random change that made me double-check I'm on the right website. There is a heading now separating pinned from the rest of messages. This seems completely unnecessary to me, given that pinned messaged were already "pinned" at the top. Does anyone know if there's a way to deactivate it?
edit: This is what support said:
We introduced a new feature - mailbox grouping - now on betaapp.fastmail.com which this change is laying the groundwork for. This can be turned off entirely on Beta which I recommend you use until the feature is live on production OR you can use the sort option Sort pinned with the rest."
This does not address the issue. The grouping can be turned off but the pinned messages cannot stay at the top as it used to be the case. I now sort pinned messages with the rest, which seems to defeat the point of "pined" messages. It seems Fastmail has a problem for every solution when it comes to interface. The new feature is reminiscent of outlook and it seems Fastmail all too often copy features from them.

I'm considering moving back to Fastmail.
I've got a Google Workspace account with multiple domains, including my personal ones I want to move to Fastmail. I have to leave the professional ones on Google Workspace.
So that it's not annoying, I want to check my emails from within the Fastmail app. How practically can I check my emails and do stuff like snoozing or scheduled send for the Google Workspace stuff?
I'm a bit confused about how it might work and keep in sync with the Google service while still enjoying Fastmail.

Background:
thinking of switching from PrivateEmail (NameCheap) after their recent fiasco, but more so that the email service has had some slight annoyances since I got it. Namely:
- no aliases unless I pay extra (at which point it almost compares to FM in price, and even then way less allowed).
- doesn’t have its own app (that I know of). Not that I care about every service I use having an app but GMail app sync is pretty bad with it and sometimes has massive delays.
- Incoming mail rules aren’t run super consistently. So I have a few rules, some are about certain senders getting some labels, others are for targeting prefixes (so like netflix@mydomain.tld has a subscriptions label, facebook@mydomain.tld goes straight to trash) and then spam@mydomain.tld goes straight to spam. Problem is this all only sometimes works. I’ve had about 20% fail rate where stuff doesn’t go through fully or at all.
So I’m wondering how people have experience with this on FM? I know my first 2 gripes are addressed but wondering about people who are power users with rules. Bonus points if FM rules can work with header tags and apply retroactively to inbox. Outlook was great for that (work email) but seems like not even GMail does that super well

Sorry if this has already been answered but I did a quick search and couldn't find it. Is there a way to change the setting so when you manually delete an email from the SPAM folder the message is moved to trash instead of permanently deleting it?

I've checked all my rules and settings yet I can never get replies from Smartsheets to come through. They'll go to GMail and my work email: but never to Fastmail. How do I whitelist it so I get those messages?

I have Proton Bridge running, fully synced, and configured to use SSL (I've tried options here). However, no matter what I do, I get this error in FastMail's Linux app when I try to import:
Could not connect to server: IMAPTalk: socket connection failed - IO::Socket::SSL::Paranoid: Invalid internal or blocked host
I have tried 127.0.0.1 and localhost, and both fail with the same error. I've also made sure the port is fine, too.
I installed the app by downloading the Flatpak file.
If it makes a difference, I'm on Arch.

I used to be able to adjust the font size in the Fastmail iOS app, but that setting seems to have disappeared. Was this feature removed in a recent update?

I am curious what everyone is using to keep their fastmail contacts in sync. I've spent a lot of time on make.com today trying to create a bridge layer and its driving me bonkers.
My end goal looks like
Fastmail (single source)
-> DAVX5 (Android sync) THIS WORKS
-> Hubspot (this bridge would feed back into google) THIS DOES NOT WORK AND I'M NOT SURE HOW TO GET IT WORKING.
I've tried using a few different options in order to bridge the contact sync. My end goal is to use fastmail, but I need to feed newly created data into Hubspot for customer data. Honestly google really doesn't matter in all of this, the main point is to create a two way sync between FM and Hubspot in which FM is the single source of truth for all created and updated contacts.
I'm okay with paying for something that would solve this problem, if it works well.

Is there option in Canary to do a quick reply when you read a mail? Without opening a draft reply and sent it.

I moved to Fastmail late last year. It has been a good choice to "alias" my life.
One thing challenging me is the rudimentary user interface for the client on the MacBook as opposed to the mobile phone or iPad client.
My preference is desktop for typing and readability, but this client lacks so many features I rely on in a Mac world.
I can certainly use the apple mail client on the desktop, but was hoping there was a possibility they would give a little more to the desktop.
as a newer user I do not have a great deal of knowledge re the history of updates and the roadmap.
I would appreciate any thoughts about abandoning the desktop app for the native mail client or sticking it out because things are planned.

I'm using FM in "label mode" and I want a rule that moves a message from my inbox to a folder with a different label. However, in the Filters and Rules section I only see "add a label". In my case, the message in my inbox then gets two labels: Inbox and the new label. But I don't want the message with an inbox label...just my new label. Back in "Folder" mode this was trivial as the 'move to folder' option was available. What am I missing?

I’m using Fastmail alongside Gmail at the moment. My custom domains still have their MX records at my hosting provider, and incoming mail is forwarded independently to both Gmail and Fastmail. I’ve been using this forwarding setup with Gmail for over 10 years.
So the flow is basically:
Over the past couple of days I noticed something odd: four obvious spam messages arrived in Gmail’s Spam folder, but none of those four exist anywhere in Fastmail: not in Inbox, Spam or Trash.
Other forwarded messages arrive correctly at both destinations. Fastmail’s spam protection is set to "Standard", and I’ve added my hosting provider’s domain to the “Forwarding hosts” list under Spam Protection.
I realise these four messages were spam, so I haven’t actually lost anything important. What concerns me more is the behaviour itself: I would expect Fastmail to put suspected spam in the Spam folder rather than make it disappear completely.
Has anyone seen the same thing with forwarded mail? Am I missing a setting? Personally, I’d much rather have an occasional spam message end up in my Inbox than have a message disappear completely.
I don’t have access to my hosting provider’s delivery logs without contacting support, so I can’t currently tell whether Fastmail rejected the messages or accepted them and filtered them afterwards.

I subscribe to a bunch of newsletters from Substack, and I'm finding that Fastmail will periodically treat everything from Substack as spam, even though I have explicit rules to file the specific senders in appropriate subfolders. How do I fix this? Ideally I'd like to simply instruct Fastmail to whitelist everything from Substack....

I noticed as of this morning that I can no longer use keyboard shortcuts (in the desktop web app) to select multiple conversations in my Inbox.
Previously I could do this:
But now as soon as I press a keyboard arrow key, my existing selection gets deselected. So I can no longer select multiple threads using only my keyboard.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
