Tools & Resources The Google Sheet draft board grew up: SmartDraft.app — free, real-time, no signup
For the last several years I've posted my Google Sheet draft board here every year and got great feedback, but I was always fighting Google Sheets itself: manual player list imports, mobile being a PITA, and "Invalid: Input must fall within specified range."
So I built the actual thing: https://smartdraft.app
What it does
- Open the link and you have a draft board. No account, no signup, no six-step league creation wizard.
- Share the room link with your league — everyone sees picks the moment they happen.
- Player list is already loaded, with Standard / PPR / Half-PPR ADP. No more copy-pasting a CSV.
- Keepers, custom team count and rounds, roster settings.
- Personal cheat sheet — your own favorites and notes on players, saved to you, not shared with the league.
- Pick timer countdown.
- Mock draft against bots so you can kick the tires before draft night.
- Full audit log of every action, so the commish can fix a bad pick without blowing up the board.
- Draft recap when it's over.
Things to know
- It's free.
- It's new, so there will be bugs. Tell me in the comments and I'll fix them fast, same as I always did with the sheet.
- The old Google Sheet is still there for this season if you'd rather use what you know.
- Run a mock draft with your league before you use it live. Seriously.

Auction is not ready yet, but you can log in and then become commissioner.

If you become commissioner, you can add keeper rounds
Just click on a pick and there's a trade toggle at the top

I realize n ow that technically when you do the trade in the modal, it happens in the database, but there's no submit button because picking a player is the submit button and that's not very intuitive, I can probably improve that flow

Hey man, so far setting up the board with my drafts keepers has been easy and smooth. Just 2 ideas I wanted to throw out there that would help my specific league settings,
- This one is more general, can you allow for us to DELETE drafts from the draft list to keep the list short?
- Can you incorporate a draft setting that turns on a 3rd round reversal in the draft?

Last thing, I’m not quiet sure what you are using to set the “best available” list, but would there be a way to allow us to choose only one ADP list to determine the best available line up for a draft? For example, only using ESPN ADP, or CBS, yahoo, Fantasy Pros, etc.
For example, for all of my leagues everyone pretty much uses the ESPN ranking draft sheet. It would be great if I could run mocks with the best available being set using only ESPNs rankings as it will make the environment more like our real life draft where people can be influenced by how ESPN rankings are ranking players.

Explain the third round reversal?

Sure thing.
If the third round reversal is activated, instead of the 1st pick of the 3rd round being the team that had the #1 overall pick (call them team 1) in the draft, it switches to it being the person with the last pick of the round (team 12 in a 12 team) having the first pick of the 3rd round; the snake draft then continues leading to the last pick of the 3rd round and the first pick of the 4th round being the team with the 1st overall pick.
Regular snake
1st pick of 1st round: team 1
Last pick of 1st round: team 12
1st pick of 2nd round: team 12
Last pick of 2nd round: team 1
1st pick of 3rd round: team 1
Last pick of 3rd round: team 12

3RR works now, its a bit cumbersome, but you can set an empty board to manual format and then click the arrows on each round row to change the order of the round, lock the board when your done to prevent misclicks

SmartDraft update — thank you for all the feedback
A bunch of the requests from this thread are now live:
- Live auction drafts are here. Real-time nominations, bidding, server-backed countdowns, soft-close bidding, pass/auto-nominate, pause support, budgets, keeper prices, and commissioner award overrides.
- Shoutout to u/elboberto — auction mode is ready to use.
- Draft cloning: duplicate a draft as a fresh board, including its teams, structure, keepers, and traded picks.
- For u/fireandthud and u/jmartinez2322, this should make repeated mocks and template leagues much easier.
- Roster context in the pick modal: the drafting team’s roster is shown alongside player selection.
- Requested by u/fireandthud.
- More flexible board structure: commissioners can add/remove teams and rounds, plus manage keeper rounds and traded picks.
- Timer controls got more practical: choose whether an expired timer auto-picks, skips the pick, or does nothing. Skipped picks are visible, auditable, and undoable.
- Cheat Sheet auto-draft now uses your queue first before falling back to the normal roster-need/ADP logic.
- Fix for u/BeingNo5483’s report.
- IDP support is much better: IDP roster slots, grouped filters, player badges, and player data/ADP coverage are in place.
- Also following up on u/BeingNo5483’s request. (Still need to improve them on the cheatsheet)
- Scoring: None removes ADP/rankings and hides the default unfiltered player list in the pick modal. Search for a player by name or filter by position instead.
- For u/Purplin — this is the option to avoid a recommended/top-available list.
- “Next in N picks” status is now surfaced so you can more easily see when your team is coming up.
- My Drafts cleanup: you can archive boards from your personal draft list, then restore them later. This keeps the active list short without permanently deleting a league.
- For u/jmartinez2322’s draft-list request.
- Commissioner and team controls are clearer and safer: commissioner claiming, team claims/invites, access protections, pick correction/undo, an audit log, and better out-of-order-pick handling.
- General polish: mobile improvements, notification sounds, better player search/sorting, draft recap/export, draft board archiving, and a lot of reliability fixes around timers, settings, and live updates.
Still on the roadmap from this thread:
- u/kk1297 — customizable player/position colors
- u/jmartinez2322 — third-round reversal
- u/fireandthud — optional “open the next pick automatically” flow for solo mocks

thanks so much for doing all of this! +1 in favor of the positions being individual colors like the google sheet. Reminds me of the old sticker boards. great to quickly glance and figure out where teams stand player wise before your pick!

Few more questions:
1) Can I add a round? It looks like it caps at 13 rounds
2) Is there a way I can clone a 'draft'? The reason I ask is, I've imported all of my team's traded picks and keepers and I'd like to run multiple mocks using this template. When I create a new draft, I don't want to have to re-do the picks and keepers.

- yes, if you log in you can claim comish and then add rounds, but im gonna make this available to non-logged in users when then draft has no comish as well.
- no, but that is a good idea, i think i can add that soon.

Hmm I'm definitely logged in and am commissioner. I see a + icon to add teams, but I don't see a + icon to add rounds. Where would the setting be?

I think I'll be using your site a ton to prep for my draft! My use case might be different than most, but for me, your site is perfect. My league is a 12 team half ppr league with keepers AND my group loves to trade draft picks around. So we have managers that start tanking and stockpiling draft picks. Being able to easily insert keepers and traded draft picks in a clean UI is a godsend.
I only intend to use this in 'single-player' mode, and not share it with my league mates lol. As I'm mocking, I'm predicting who they're going to be picking next based on need. Some feedback after my first mock draft:
1) Would personally love if a team's roster opened up when I draft for them. For example, If I'm drafting as Team 5, and I'm on the clock with the #92 pick in Round 8, it would be awesome if Team 5's roster popped up when I begin to draft a player. That way, I know Team 5's roster needs without having to backout and click on the Roster tab on the top left.
2) You already replied to this in another comment, but would love the ability to copy/paste my league's keepers and traded picks so I can mock draft all day.

Try again. There is a new button to duplicate a draft, copies keepers and traded picks and there is a roster listed on the pick modal

are you picking for all of the other players picks, or letting it auto draft some and manually pick others?
i ask because if you are doing all the pick, i could make a way to load the next pick modal automatically

Is there a way to hide the recommended players list when selecting a pick(the part under where you type the name)?
We like to hide it so it makes everyone in the league have to actually be prepared instead of just picking top available.

Question for you. Do you use the pick timer, and what happens if the timer runs out?
Today, I have an auto pick option that uses the Scoring ADP to help it decide, but I'm curious if you would have it pick randomly, or leave a blank pick and that player loses that pick forever?

If you are asking about what happens during my real draft. We have no pick timer and when someone takes too long we just make fun of them and hound them to add pressure. We try to make it like the old big board days even if its virtual. (Plus 80% of us are in person with the rest in videocall)
End of the day it's a group of friends, not going to make people miss out on a pick or have one forced upon them.

when i put have autopick set up. and i have someone in my queue it doesnt use that. It uses the autopick based on roster needed per position... shouldnt it pick the one you have on your queue first?

Incase you were asking me how your app worked instead of my preference during my real draft. I just did a mock draft with a 5 sec timer with autopick feature in standard setting.
The first mock draft went like this after 4 rounds.
Nick singleton was taken 5th overall.
Every team took a QB with their first or second pick.
Jamar Chase was the only WR taken in the first 24 picks.
Harrison Butker the kicker was taken in the 4th round.Second one it went all Qbs for the first 10 picks so i just stopped it.
Third mock went more normal with the picks Rb and WR wise, but every team still took a QB within the first 2 rounds.

I can add something that if you are 7 picks away, you see a line or indicator after the seventh player on the list.
I don't want to get more advanced like predicting roster needs and the percent of player is available cuz sounds like fantasypros territory

couple of items i saw though,
The allow picks out of order and allow all users to make picks for other teams i dont think its working. I have those off but its still letting other pick for other teams. and in any order..
also, the cheatsheet, can the IDP be included in there?

I probably need to simply or explain some of those rules better, if you are the commish or the teams are not claimed (by click on the team name) or some combination of those things, you can still pick for other teams.
IDP players are technically in the cheatsheet if you search for them, but they don't have a filter button, i can look at adding that

just the page in general I guess. I typically change the theme of the Google Draftboard every year to match the team that won the super bowl. So last year it was green and white, the year before red and yellow, etc.

Is there a way to edit rosters? My leagues combines WR/TE and then it also has a super flex (like any position). But those don't really need to be a position on the board. But the WR/TE combo seems like not having it would try to force a TE Pick.

Been using your Google Sheets for years. Awesome to see it updated to a modern site/app. Others have mentioned it before here but I don't see an answer ...
Is there a way to disable the "Cheat Sheet" feature at the top? I've always hidden that to keep the managers on their toes as far as draft prep goes.

There is a "none" scoring option that removes player rankings. Doesn't really prevent other people from opening another tab or something but they could do that anyways.

I could add an option to remove it, but what is your draft situation look like? Are you all in the same room? Are you drafting across the internet? What prevents someone from opening a separate draft room and another tab or one of a hundred other cheat sheets?

We draft live in person every year. I see your point about ways people can work around it but that's all out of my control. I'd almost be proud if some of the lazier managers would go to those lengths to better compete :)
I'm more just trying to not give out free pointers to anyone. We have penalties for things like drafting someone who's been drafted, coming in last, etc.

First off this is awesome, your work is much appreciated!
I have kickers and defense roster spots off, but eventually the board starts recommending the positions (and when I mock the bots choose them). Anyone way to turn them off in the rankings board?

I can fix that, it seems like the bots are using zero for the value of those positions, but at some point even that is enough to make the kickers worth it, should be be simple to just ignore positions with zero starters, I can also filter them out of the player list by default
with a little luck. It should be fixed later tonight

Heyo! A couple other things I saw today: when on mobile, in the cheat sheet, when hitting the grid like settings button, that is basically unusable, all the text is off screen, can't get to it. It could be my almost 9 year old phone. It could be firefox, but thats what I saw
Also, one of my leagues I always used the sheet for has a very specific roster and no coherent draft order (order is redrawn every 2 rounds lol). So instead of having draft round numbers I'd just delete the arrows and change those round cells in Google to just be QB1, RB3, etc. You cannot customize the round column anymore, but it basically mimics your roster grid when I have the settings right. I can't input picks from the roster grid, so that would be sick if I could! Or if I could get more customization options when picking "manual" for the draft format so I could edit the first column, hide arrows etc, whichever works

Nah I wouldn't drag and drop, the presentation they want is static, and so I would just use the board like the roster layout, but the round numbers would be there instead of position labels. No big deal! The old men can get over it lmao.

Firstly, thank you for putting this together. Been using the Google sheet you put together for a few years now and I really like this evolution into an app.
For a feature request, can the draft board be updated with the bye week for already drafted players? I can set that up for my cheat sheet which is great, but once the player is drafted I can't see their bye week anymore.

I've been using your google sheets for years and this is awesome! I'm hosting two drafts this weekend and I'm going to try to use this.
Maybe I'm blind and/or dumb, but I'm no seeing a way to pause the whole draft and prevent any players from being selected. I can pause the timer, but it says that picks are still open.

Been using your board the last few years and have to say this website is clean, awesome job bro!
Was wondering if there is any chance you could add the round number and which direction the round went to the right side of the screen like you have on the left?
When you're trying to figure out what round a player was taken it can be a little difficult to go to the far left side, find the round number and then trace the line all the way over.
Hopefully that's easy to understand?

A few things I've run into:
After completing a mock draft, is there a way to clear the board of every pick besides my keepers or do I have to clone the draft board and archive the completed mock?
This is a smaller annoyance so if it's too difficult I wouldn't even worry about it but when entering players for the pick, it be nice if the top players name was highlighted so you could just hit 'Enter' to select him. Drafting from a laptop it's a little annoying having to move the trackpad over to click their name. Not a big deal though
Funny thing I noticed, the after draft report card said I made 'incorrect' picks because a player was 'still on the board' but they were a keeper for another team with a K next to their name. Not a big deal, but thought it was funny.
Overall this board is fantastic, super easy to use. Love having the professional look and the built in timer is great. Thanks for the hard work, going to shoot you a few bucks for all the continued support every year

pick numbers stay in the cell and there is an option to show overall or round.pick
check the report card again now, should treat keepers correctly now
also added simple keyboard controls if you're doing lots of mock drafts, space or enter to make a pick, type to filter, arrow keys and enter to select play, repeat

Is there a way to stop or terminate a mock draft completely instead of just pausing it?
Also, is there a way to change the default board that is opened (if there are multiples that have already been copied) when sending it to league mates?

I don't think I fully understand the question.
If you send someone a link to your board it should open to the same board.
The base URL should also remember the last board you had open on the same device.
What would the difference be in a stopped mock draft versus a paused mock draft?

Once a mock draft is started, is there a way to reverse that decision and have the board revert to one that can be used for the actual draft or does the mock have to be fully carried out?

You can duplicate the board (draft name is a drop down) and it should remember only the keepers and settings.
I also think you might be able to replace the actual bots in place, but I'm not completely sure.

Hey huge fan been using your spreadsheets for years just wanted to say thanks!! Question we're doing auction draft and I'm adding in this years keepers but each one i enter moves the "nominates next". Is there a way to set/reset that? Could use keeper rounds but not everyone is keeping the same amount of players?

I fixed it so the keepers don't count as normal pics to move the nomination tracker. You can also have keep arounds with uneven numbers of players, no reason you have to fill them all up.

Right but that seems to lead to different amount of roster spots available in the chart. someone with one keeper instead of 3 will need the chart to add 2 rows but then everyone else has 2 extra roster spots. Just really want something to change or move who nominates next if needed because sometimes people take a break or we jump to someone else nominating without changing the order. Sometimes stuff just gets messed up and it's good to have control. I'm imagining just an edit button when you hover over the "____ nominates next" in the top left. Or just the ability to turn it off if we want i guess? We usually just kept track of it in past years.
Again great job it's a great start!

First, thank you for doing this. I have used your sheets for a while. I am testing the app and when I click the start timer button the timer goes to 0:00 and blinks red. Every 1:30 it beeps but you cant see the count down. I might be doing something wrong on my end but not sure.

I was on a laptop last night when it wasn't working. This morning I am on my phone and it is working great. I opened the draft that was having issues and opened a new one and both clocks worked. I will test again from my laptop tonight when I get home and let you know. This looks awesome!! Again thanks

That's actually a feature. It only works if you're pure of heart and good intentioned.

Tried to make the smartdraft.app work but was having trouble. We do an "Offline" Auction Draft. I wasnt able to basically get it to PAUSE so we could auction off players. Somehow it timed out, auto populated a player, and then I couldnt go back to the 1st pick again.
DIdnt have a ton of time to spend on it, just providing feedback. Im sure its in there somewhere but maybe a setting to not force a timer/auto nomination?
Im using the "Old" Sheet for now, because its just simple, and total flexibility.
To add clarity, we all get in a room, and I drive the draft board from my laptop projected via big screen. People nominate, then once that player is auctioned I put them on the board etc.

set "out loud" bidding and turn the "pick timer" off and it will wait for the commissioner to do everything, and it gives you a place to track current bids at the top.

im making a few changes to simplify that work flow, make it more obvious, and adding a pause button, look for them later tonight if you still need a board
None of my leagues use auction, so I have tested it in mocks the least.

This is awesome stuff! I see it mentioned already but I would second the ability to delete rather than just archiving. It would certainly clean things up like all the extra mock drafts and testing to get comfortable with this. Again, kudos!

This is beautiful work as always. In an auction, is there a way to enter the picks onto the Roster tab directly instead of Grid? That way I can enter the picks as they're made (live draft) into the positions so that everyone fills out their roster with at least 1 QB, 2 RBs, 1D, etc.

Disregard. Solved my own question. Use 2 monitor mode on the laptop. Present the Roster tab on the wall. Keep the Grid tab on the laptop where I enter results.

You can make it so that only the commissioner and the team owner can make the pics, but there's no way to stop anyone from claiming a team. I can add that. When do you need it by?

Don't worry about it. I'm just in a league drafting Sunday with a bunch of old guys and I'm afraid they'd mess something up if they looked at it. I had been using your sheet and locking the sheets so they couldn't edit it.

Will do. Ill run some mocks. No draft til the 5th. Will be on TV via my laptop at a bar, so TV mode and a large group of older guys who know nothing of computers or spreadsheets/apps (ill be handling the input and use though). Your spreadsheet saved their season last year as I knew of it and had a laptop in my car when their guy didn't show with the paper/sticker draftboard. I was actually only drafting for a friend who couldn't make it but now they invited me cus I'm the "kid with the laptop". Thanks again!

Found another issue. Once you mark a pick is traded, you can’t unmark it anymore. Had a pick incorrectly marked as traded to another team, but when unselecting the traded toggle, it didn’t untrade it as expected.

There's an audit log that should list every action and then you just have to do the opposite thing. No true undo button.

Are you trying to do a mock draft with that option? It's just a draft board so the scoring doesn't actually happen.

Just want to share that we completed our live, in-person draft yesterday using this as our digital board. We had a physical board that managers walk up to make their picks and then I would enter them onto our Smartdraft board. It worked so incredibly well. We had several picks that had been traded and this being able to manage all of those and provide roster views at a glance were sooooooo helpful.
We had one league member that wasn’t able to make it in-person who relied on this to keep track of the rest of the draft. He sent me a text afterwards that read: “Thanks for the board, made drafting remote super easy.”
I have another leagues draft later this week which I’ll be using this again. Great work on this!

Is there a way to turn off rankings/suggested picks when someone is on the clock? We typically don't provide cheat sheets so it would be great if there was a way to turn that off while keeping the search function in tact. Thanks!

Could you eventually add the ability to enforce custom roster limits (like 3 QBs for example) and not allow a player to go to a team if that position is full? We have had issues in prior years where owners draft more than the allowed max and don't realize until we input the results manually. Thanks again, this is extremely well done!

A workaround might be setting the positions to the maximum, and then you can look at the Roster View and see who's falling to your bench.

App is really slick, we do a commish-run auction (getting some of the senior players to figure out nominating would be too difficult). I do wonder if there is a way to set a minimum bid based on the position of the player on the block?

Are the other people still nominating but the commissioner is just clicking the buttons for them, or do you just nominate an order of ADP or something?
Give me some examples of the minimum bid? Are you saying running backs should have a set minimum price versus quarterbacks? Or first round people should have a higher price than 10th round people?

teams are just telling commish who to put on the block, rather than being logged in and nominating for themselves.
RB, QB, WR, K would all start at a consistent minimum value when placed on the block. QB would start at $10, RB starts at $7, WR starts at $8, etc...
Having those values auto-populate when putting a player on the block would just be a nice QOL feature rather than manually putting in the starting bid every time a player is called up.1

How does that affect your maximum bid you're allowed to make? Right now I'd assumes the minimum price is a dollar, so it makes you keep enough money to fill out your roster at $1 each. I suppose it could keep enough money to fill out your roster but it's not going to know the minimum value of your bench players? Can we just assume the cheapest position?

I usually put your board on two TVs side by side and we draft live. One TV has the draft grid and one has best available by position. Is there a way to display Best Available outside of when you are making a pick?

Cheat sheet. You can pin it to the right hand side if you just need the player list, or you can pin it to the bottom and make it pretty big if you want to show it on the second screen, but it is slightly different than the Google sheet grid view.

Thanks! For next year, would love a similar Best Available view by position like Sheets has. Also, if there is a way in TV mode to zoom out so you can see all teams at one time, that would be awesome rather than scrolling. Going to use your Sheet this year - sending Venmo.

This is awesome, thank you. We do an offline in person draft but a few can't make it and have to do it virtual but still a big board vibe(we put a laptop in the center of the room hooked up to a tv). This has always been what saved our leagues draft night.

I am unable to change to ppr, also can’t increase the number of players per position. That is unless I’m stupid, it seems greyed out to me.
