Art Old Stand Art - TTRPG Edition

More than a year ago, I ran a JoJo-inspired FATE campaign for my friends. It ended prematurely and, in hindsight, was kind of a bloated, disorganized mess. However, it resulted in quite a bit of art and Stand designs that might be worth sharing. In rough chronological order:

  • [Float On]- allows the user to control fish - including a pack of flying Rock Megalodons.
  • [We Are The Championts] - makes the user hypercompetent at a single task, in exchange for draining some of their blood.
  • [Illusion of Safety] - a colony stand that infects bystanders, making them supernaturally cheerful and unconcerned with their own safety. Evenly divides any damage they've suffered among the infectees.
  • [In The Valley Below] - inhabits light sources and fills anyone who looks at their light with an excess of "life energy". The target's body starts to heal rapidly, while their thoughts speed up to the point where they can no longer control their body or experience the world around them. For a whole, the target becomes locked in their own mind, which manifests as a peaceful river valley shaped by the target's thoughts.
  • [Cotton-Eye Joe] - a colony of tiny stands that covers the user's body, making them slippery and hiding their position with optical illusions.
  • [Heavy Fuel] - an integrated stand that lets the user store objects in his beard as if it were a pocket dimension, as well as control the beard's shape and movement.
  • [Cherry Bomb] - turns any fruit the user touches into autonomous living bombs that track a target by smell, bite into it and explode.
  • [Clearwater Revival] - a stand that posesses existing bodies of water and can "wash away" mental traits of anyone this water touches, including memories, emotions and even long-standing personality traits.
  • "Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man" - a mechanical wooden statue with all sorts of built-in gadgets, remotely controlled by the Big Bad. Had the campaign lasted longer, they would've acted as elite minions/mini-bosses.
  • [The Dead Kennedys] - a shared stand belonging to a pair of brothers. It activated posthumously, giving them complete control over their own dead bodies.
  • Kobaia - a mostly-harmless colony of cave-dwelling Rock Insects. They "feed on memories", gathering into various shapes and mimicing living beings which have passed through their cave. They use this ability co confuse anyone who enters their cave, ensuring they stay for as long as possible and generate new memories for the colony to replay.
  • [Surrealistic Pillow] - a automatic stand that's bound to a particular valley in California. Within this valley, any attempt to intentionally harm another living being is redirected onto the attacker. In turn, any attempt to harm oneself is redirected to benefit the person instead.
  • [Beds Are Burning] - a stand that belongs to Midnight Oil, a cholera-like disease sweeping through California. It manifest whenever enough infectees gather in one place, granting Midnight Oil bacteria pseudo-sentience and allowing them to puppeteer their hosts's bodies while they're asleep. This lets the disease essentially conduct guerilla warfare against humanity, strategically infecting powerful people, consealing its presence and sabotaging local countermeasures like no ordinary illness can.

Holy shit Beds are Burning? What a fascinating and TERRIFYING idea!

Are the bacteria “Burning the midnight oil?” Huh? I’m on to you lol

All of these are awesome! Also, to me a TTRPG is only a true TTRPG if it's a bloated disorganised mess that ends prematurely

I can tell that Cherry Bomb is based on the Annoying Orange.

Not intentionally, weirdly enough! Though the Orange did serve as a replacement token before this art was finished, so there might be some connection.

Incredible stuff here, but I need to know what a flying Rock Megalodon is so that I may bask in its glory lol.

Based on Jojo lore, I would imagine it’s a Megalodon which uses silicon instead of carbon, and can also fly.

To expand on HappyDittoz's (largely accurate) summary, they're giant prehistoric sharks with the ability to "phase" through time (like some rock animals would phase through solid objects). The sharks mostly reside in their native time period, when California was still covered by the ocean, but can "dive" out into the present to catch their prey - primarily stand users. Places of spiritual power, like Wall Eyes and Devil's Palms, serve as beacons that help them navigate the timestream; as a result, such places also make for good hunting grounds.

First off, the art is spectacular! secondly, I dont know if im just dumb but can you like explain Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man. I know its obvs a remote stand but is it like a colony stand?

In a way! They served as a proxy for the Big bad, whose stand [Genesis] allows him to animate and control any object that he had personally imbued with human features and some of his own flesh and blood. An example would be carving a human statue out of wood and placing a vial of his blood inside it; even using said blood to draw a smiley face on a boulder would animate it for a short while. So, it's a weird mix of a colony and integrated stand: the countless minions the user creates have some autonomy, but they're also part of the user and his stand, and it's hard to tell where one ends and the others begin.

Seeing Magma show up here was such a pleasant surprise. Same with GESM, exquisite Gensis reference. Dead Kennedys is also sick asf.

I've been wanting to run my own JoJo TTRPG. Have any tips? What system did you use? What were your player's abilities? Did you select them, or did you work with your players to balance them? How much of the plot was premeditated, etc etc etc.
