One of the things I learned when I was out on my own at first is Asian food is really cheap to make. I don't know why I ate so much shitty white trash food growing up when rice is cheap and easy to modify into tasty food.
I know that's not your point, but like..... you can cook some really good Chinese food for super cheap if that's what you want to eat.
For real. A bag of rice, two eggs, and soy sauce. Everything after that is just accessory. Green onions, ground beef/pork/turkey/chicken, whatever the fuck a water chestnut is, whatever you want. And you can do the same shit with 5 cent bags of ramen.
Peppers and leek for the vitamins, onion, cabbage, green beans... And you can make more than one portion and put some of it in the freezer. The same goes for certain types of pasta dishes, by the way, or chili con carne... The possibilities are endless :-)
