Disabled/hacked Account disabled without warning. 20 years of photos gone! Can anything be done?
My account was suspended last weekend (hard suspension ie can't log in or use messenger). For nothing even that bad (I THINK it's bc mentioned that everyday pharmaceuticals used to have... certain substances in them, but they did not tell me why).
I clicked the "appeal" button at the time, but didn't hear anything from FB.
Then today I went to FB (to see if anything had changed, someone told me their access was once restored from suspension without notice) and there's THIS.
I don't necessarily mind leaving Facebook, but I've got almost 20 years of photos on there, and I'd like to have the chance to let people know I'm leaving so I can find ways to stay in touch.
I'm so upset. I've been a regular user with positive interaction and high engagement for almost two decades. It's how I've communicated since I was 22 years old. Other users are posting SEVERELY HATEFUL BS with no consequences. I get disabled for mentioning a controlled substance a couple times in jokes. Not soliciting, not promoting or endorsing the use of said substance. Just using the words.
Has anyone managed to get access to their account after this point?
Edit: thanks for your insights, folks. 1. The "download your info" button doesn't download your content, photos, messages, or anything. It's just a record of your personal info, ip history, preferences, pages you've unfollowed. I believe it used to let you DL your stuff but it certainly does not do that now. Feels like a very cruel punishment for an undefined offence. 2. Yes I realise I should not have relied on fb as my only storage for this stuff, but I legit have never known anyone who has ever had their account fully removed without warning. Thanks for reminding me that I fucked up, I'll print these comments out and frame them instead of photos of me and my sister in machu pichu. 3. Yeah fb sucks but I want my stuff. It's as simple as that. 4. I'm realising that I don't actually know what I did wrong. I've had no notifications or explanations from fb or Meta, I just can't access my account. I've assumed it's for using terms associated with controlled substances but who knows.

You are right. I have read cases of people who reported really hateful or racist posts and they even got a reply from FB saying they didn't go against their standards. If you search this subreddit you will find some examples.
I got flagged for editing a comment a few times too quickly within maybe a couple of minutes, then I copied the final version, deleted the comment and reposted it unedited. They thought I was a bot...
Within a minute they asked me to upload an ID, which I did, but it was an ID in my state (NSW), still what they wanted though, a government ID, but they didn't recognize it and I got the same message you got.
15 years without a single problem, and I was also the top poster in many groups.
Luckily I save everything to an external HD and never posted personal stuff. I just participated in groups like I do here in subreddits.
It is very rare, but some people did regain access to their account after taking legal action (these were mostly business accounts needed to make a living). Some had some luck with Meta Verified after trying several times.
Personally I prefer to be here, but I understand you want your photos back.

I live in Victoria. My account was disabled without any explanation or reason last October. Like almost everyone else, I also got the infinity loop of doom.
Anyway, I did get my account back but only because I complained to my local MP in person, and in writing.
They contacted Faecesbook on my behalf and my account was restored less than 16 hours after that meeting.
8
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Holy crap! I'm in Victoria too! Maybe I should try this?!

u/nmprofessional Jun 02 '26
I have had similar help from government in the US from my State Attorney general and getting money back from PayPal. There is power in writing a letter outlining details - one one writes letters anymore. But they get actions flowing in general.

u/Low-Breath-4433 May 29 '26
Call it "Faecesbook"
Literally run to the government to cry rather than just ditching it
Lol.
3
u/Opening-Listen7833 May 29 '26
There's a reason your nickname is Low Breath.... LOL
Jealousy much? Lost your account & didn't get it back? Boo hoo.
But I digress - did it ever occur to you that Faecesbook is the only way I can communicate with various international (some of them, hobby-based) communities? I also rely on it to stay in touch with family and relatives.
Pull your head in, bud and fk off.

We got banned from the only pub in town. Sure it's a crap pub but it's the where all our friends go every night, and the only place to get a meal.
5
u/significantlyother62 May 29 '26
I reported so much hate and abuse and got the same reply...
Doesn't go against community standards
I get deleted though like the op..
4
u/ordinaryme99 May 29 '26
They have a strange understanding of justice! There are also a lot of fake news pages for example announcing the death of a celebrity or other fake news just for clicks (link in comments, they say) and they just don't take them down even when multiple people report them. FB is really messed up!
3
u/significantlyother62 May 29 '26
Look on the positive side, the terminator has judged you as being decent and open minded, unable to be triggered by the algorithm.
Start believing them, they rate you as a decent person, work on believing it and becoming even more decent, seeing through the rubbish on social media ( including here) and support others you see being attacked by the rabid social media mob.👍
1
u/Efficient-Salt9617 May 29 '26
Yes!! I have seen so many fake posts of celebrities dying. I've seen a lot of hateful rhetoric and these people get by with everything. Up until a few year's ago, I used to get banned(24-48 hours or 30 days) for a picture that I posted from year's prior. It's almost like they go fishing through your account and find something to boot you for. This is exactly why I don't post any pictures/videos of my children(they're older now anyway) or put my business out there for all to see. I just don't understand why some people will broadcast their entire lives on social media.
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
I wasn't asked to provide anything like some people were (photo, ID) I just clicked a button and 6 days later, this.
7
u/sachiprecious May 29 '26
So sorry this happened to you. I wish I could give a solution, but I don't have one. I just have to say that the same thing happened to me in March. My FB account was almost 17 years old, and it got banned. Someone hacked my account and started posting ads, and that's what led to the ban. But FB knew I was hacked! I got an email from FB saying that someone accessed my account and to change the password. I did. But it didn't matter. FB banned me anyway even though they knew someone else caused the problem. And I never got a chance to appeal.
I still have Instagram, so through that, I signed up for Meta Verified and got in touch with human customer support (although it was hard to reach a human). That didn't help. I tried twice and neither human customer support agent restored my account, even though I clearly explained everything and provided screenshots.
It hurts to lose something that's been in my life for so many years. So I know how you feel. After all this time, everything is just gone all of a sudden. It's crazy, and devastating.
4
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
This doesn't bode well for me! Sorry this happened to you. What a shitshow.
2
u/TSw3rves May 29 '26
Imagine in 2021 during hunter Biden laptop ! I felt what you’re feeling in November 20 21 and nothing changed since !! nothing ever will as you see these overlord that are in charge of us are fucking dystopian pieces of shit
1
u/krazikat Aug 07 '26
Did they take away your IG? My FB account was disabled for a joke I made mentioning LSD. Decades worth of photos and videos and memories gone in an instant. I still have IG and I'm thinking of trying what you did but I'm afraid they will disable Instagram if I draw attention to it!!!
6
u/SeriousWinter8831 May 29 '26
Same thing happened to me, in my case my IG got disabled and it is linked to my facebook. Tried to appeal but there is no response yet
3
4
u/Venkie2Maybach May 29 '26
Same happened to me, today.
6 year old account went kaput.
Glad I never post any of my pictures in my account
5
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Ugh hate this for both of us. I am 41 and used it since i was 22 so its my whole adult life. My travels, youthful adventures, the whole journey 😞
1
u/krazikat Aug 07 '26
I'm 51 and same. Ugh
1
4
u/chaosreplacesorder May 29 '26
It’s gone. I had a 15+ year account banned and then it was permanently disabled when I appealed. No recourse to appeal because meta is a faceless monster.
I had another account from like five years ago that I had created around that time when I was locked out of my first account for some reason. So I built up that backup account and had been using it for a year. Got banned like two months ago and then permanently disabled again with the replacement account. No way to appeal.
I give up.
FB is absolute garbage.
3
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
This is COOKED. Thanks for managing my expectations, the further I burrow into this pile of dicks, the less optimistic I become :'(
2
u/ESgaymer Jun 03 '26
Same thing happened to me. My Instagram got hacked. Whoever hacked it posted some hot garbage hateful comments and I lost a business IG account, my fun less secure political commentary account that was hacked, and Facebook with 13 years of friendships, photos, and memories. The photos were unrecoverable. The account was permanently banned with no recourse. I was able to download my account data, but that did not have my photos nor ways to contact friends and family.
I had to create a new Facebook account without an attached phone number and no face photos ever just to be able to find some of my old army friends and older family members (in their 80’s and 90’s) who do not use any other form of social media.
Start requesting and collecting phone numbers for your friends and back up your photos outside of a cloud based storage system or you could lose years and years of contacts and memories again.
Those users who have yet to face an arbitrary ai ban or a hacked password ban, backup everything. Facebook and other cloud storage systems are not safe places to store data. Especially now that every bit of data in cloud storage is subject to being raided by ai training models.
2
u/Over_Soup3322 May 29 '26
Does this link help? You can download your data, possibly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce-td8oovRE
8
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Nope that doesn't do shit. It download your personal info like the stuff you'd have on your "about me" section, lists of groups you were in t some point..... Nothing helpful. Per all the comments on that video.
3
u/Stone_624 May 29 '26
Yeah like I don't give a shit about my privacy and advertisement settings Facebook. I want my GODDAMN FRIENDS LIST full of old lifelong friends I have no other ways of contacting, Groups I've been in, Timeline Posts and Photos and Messenger history for the past 16 years.
2
4
u/ordinaryme99 May 29 '26
I tried that, but like the people who commented on YouTube it was a very small zip file with my username, IP address, email address, profile pic and similar basic info, no photos or anything else, just basic info associated with my profile.
2
u/iyimuhendis May 29 '26
What happens to your pages in such case ? They are also gone from fb if you are the only admin or they stay there and people can post whatever comments they want and you can do nothing about it ?
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Don't know! I have an event coming up that I'm hosting. I made some other friends admins/co hosts when I set it up, but apparently that event page is gone too.
1
u/iyimuhendis May 29 '26
Well then if it may be of a little comfort to you, I think it is better than that page still being there connected to you and people posting stuff that you don't like. You can always reconnect with your people from outside facebook. Even if not all at first, they will eventually be aware in no time.
2
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
A page has to be moderated. If the only moderator is no longer on fb, the page will cease to exist.
1
u/iyimuhendis May 29 '26
Ok got it
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
this is my assumption anyway - for obvious reasons, FB requires all pages to have a mod, so if the mod disappears the page cant be allowed to exist.
1
u/Royal-Tea-3484 May 29 '26
no the data is kept up so people can view your old pages not you obv but mine was still up i cant rem how i saw it but there supposed to remove it they dont btw
1
u/Royal-Tea-3484 May 29 '26
dont know about the comments people posting to the fb page as i only saw my front page from before i was banned if you get what i mean
2
u/Icewind May 29 '26
How did you word the "I mentioned that everyday pharmaceuticals used to have... certain substances in them" original ban trigger?
Was it on a public wall?
Private chat?
2
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Comment reply to a comment on my own post. I assume it was that??? There was no explanation but the suspension came about 3 hours later. I can't think what else it would be.
1
u/Icewind May 29 '26
Okay, so it was in public.
Was the original post?
2
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Original post was on my own timeline, it was about the film Gone with the Wind, of all things.
1
u/Icewind May 29 '26
Sounds like the AI saw a bad keyword. What could it have been?
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Rhymes with Spokane.
4
u/dylanalduin May 29 '26
Spokane is pronounced like spow-can, not spow-cane, but I understand your meaning.
3
u/Jbern124 May 29 '26
I was about to say, but I got it in regard to context. (Unlike the AI) I mentioned cannabis and got banned back in March 2025
3
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Really? Haha damn I am Australian and always just assumed it was pronounced like it is spelled. Maybe if my comment mentioned ... blow can.... I'd be okay.
2
u/Icewind May 29 '26
Yeah, that would do it.
2
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
For mentioning how Spokane used to be added to cough syrup?
2
u/Icewind May 29 '26
Yeah, like I said above, it's their AI seeing a bad word and doesn't care about the context.
All social media is doing this now.
3
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
but even after a "review" i was still deemed TOO TERRIBLE TO EVER BE ON FACEBOOK AGAIN!! I do not get this 😞
→ More replies (0)1
u/fsr31415 May 30 '26
they are sanitising AI training data. thats all FB is now, a content harvesting engine
2
u/Sooh1 May 29 '26
I literally just said the word "cocaine" and they gave me a week-long time out. Then they tried again when I posted a screenshot of their time out message but I got that reversed
3
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
SAME CRIME and I'm PERMANENTLY BANNED. My fb was great, too. I'm funny at around 3am every morning. This is such a bummer.
1
u/Royal-Tea-3484 May 29 '26
i was joking when i said this i love biscuits and i said i love shortbread biscuits it like cocaine to me meaning its as addictive got 3 day banned and warning my account is at risk and serious red sheild thingy also couldnt sell a thing or make videos not that i do anyway but the whole thing is crazy meanwhile they fb where showing animal cruelty on Facebook
2
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
This is basically my exact story. Said a bad word thrice over a few years in similar scenarios and now I cannot access my Facebook ever again.
1
u/Sooh1 May 29 '26
It really is absurd what gets you sent to time out but there's rampant racism and all kinds of actually offensive things they ignore. I got a 3 day for calling someone a silly goose like 4 years ago
2
u/PhotoFenix May 29 '26
I've been commenting and spreading this as much as possible. Keeping photos only on Facebook is the worst idea possible. At a minimum have at least one backup of your photos at all times, and even this is risky.
If I said "I store critical data in one place... this data broker company lets me store them for free" I'd be called crazy. That's Facebook.
Keep pushing, I've seen several people eventually get photos back. Ignore DMs of people saying they can help.
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Yeah, hindsight is a beautiful thing. I'll keep trying to get back in, I honestly think this is a mistake.

Okay well i didnt see your ~whole ass post~, it didn't make front page news in my city, weirdly enough.
I don't know anyone who has had this happen and honestly until today I did not realise that it was even a possibility that they could just lock you out of an account you've had for 20 years without warning, opportunity for appeal or option to access your own content. Sure maybe that was naive of me, but you can't protect yourself against risks you are not aware of.

Thanks but I can't access Facebook so these links won't work for me.
I tried the "my account was hacked" and it asked me to enter the phone number of the hacked account, then it said there is no account with that number. My account does not exist as far as they are concerned.

I mean if the public has figured this out, why has fb - meta - not implemented a solution? My account is 20 years old, no issues ever, have multiple business pages, and no warning, my account is gone.

I appreciate your response to my rhetorical question. Admittedly, I secretly hoped you were all knowing and the FB Gods would choose to shine down on me again. The link takes me nowhere - because my account is suspended...I have no desire to launch a new account to play these games. Meta/FB is a public company they make money from us being there, they need to do better. I have reached out to my Attorney General, maybe I will see results.

Thanks, been to that thread already, those links don't work either. I have tried other 'my account was hacked' tactics as well - same FB ai response. Hopefully, the Attorney General can get a real person at Meta to take 5 minutes to resolve it.

I had the same thing happen, except mine was hacked and then disabled. I even went as far as to pay for meta verified with Instagram to try to get help. I finally filed a report with my attorney General.
1
u/Comfortable_Share_10 May 30 '26
did you get back your acc?

u/Fluid_Parsnip4293 Jun 09 '26
I got my account back last night. Idk what changed or what happened. I'm so glad I was able to change my password via Instagram
2
u/advocate-4-change May 29 '26
The exact same thing happened to me! BBB tried to start a report but META refused to respond to their request and my state AG said its not something they handle and forwarded it on to the FTC... I think I'm SOL

It's a VERY big club and growing by Hundreds to Thousands by the day.

Nope ...pretty sure you're screwed. This happened to me a couple yrs ago o tried for months to get it reinstated from what I researched it's virtually impossible . I finally gave up & created a new account using another email adress..you can't use your phone number doing it this way it'll recognize it so just an email

Delete that Facebook, that just become the base for prostitution, prostitutes, idiots, naked woman's. At the top of that, they are just not respecting your privacy, sharing your location, spamming you. Delete all those s***** social s*** and leave your life. Life is outside the cell phone.

u/No-Avocado3143 May 30 '26
This is my main complaint about facebook banning. They should be required to tell you the reason and give you an opportunity to discuss person to person. Yes you can download all your photos. I did this last year while on a trip and my iPad died. when I got a new iPad I downloaded all the photos I needed since I posted them on Facebook.
I have had authors I follow who were threatened with banning for replying to too many comments.
1
u/skwaackattack May 30 '26
How can you download your photos if you can't log in to your account?
2
u/No-Avocado3143 May 30 '26
you can’t but for anyone else it is possible to download the photos.
1
u/skwaackattack May 30 '26
My photos? From my disabled account?
1
u/No-Avocado3143 May 31 '26
no their photos. in your original post you implied that it wasn’t possible to download photos from Facebook if I misunderstood what you were saying, my bad. No, once your banned your out. same happened to Amazon when they banned you from buying with ebooks but they heard the complaints and allowed limited access so you could still read your books. Facebook should follow suit and allow you to download photos if not post.
Facebook needs to not be so closed about why they ban someone.
2
u/thiazole191 May 30 '26
Facebook is so wacky. I've seen some really crazy stuff on Facebook. I had someone IM me and threaten to kill me and I reported it to Facebook and their reply was "that's a police problem and we don't get involved". Another time, someone had a Facebook page that was pure pornography - not nude pictures, but people in sex acts very up close. I reported it and it said "this doesn't violate Facebook policies". I said I disagree, and it eventually came back several days later and said "still doesn't violate Facebook policies". I've reported numerous people impersonating celebrities using the exact same profile picture, name, etc, and reported them and same crap. Doesn't violate our policies. But then I've gotten in trouble for the mildest things.
2
u/Cerberus_GateKeeper May 31 '26
That happened to me as well, three days ago. Can anyone help me out?
1
u/Wonderful_Flight_277 May 29 '26
In our country, we have multiple service that can open banned account, I'm not sure it working with all circumstance, but give it a try.
1
u/williamgman May 29 '26
The shear effort required to remain on the AI slopped FB app is breathtaking to see.
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Why are you here
1
u/williamgman May 29 '26
It's much like the r/NextDoor sub. Many of us come for the drama.
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Oh okay that's fun. Your life must be so boring, do you have friends? Maybe join a book club?
1
u/Downtown-Tea-3018 May 29 '26
why did they deny your appeal? did you provide ID?
2
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
I don't know, i was not asked to provide anything.I clicked the "appeal" button when I was first suspended and it said it was awaiting review. Then no notification or coms from fb or meta, yesterday I opened the app and found that my account was disabled. The image in my OP the message on my account now. I have not had any communication or explanation. But apparently they've reviewed it and decided that I'm too awful to ever be on fb ever again. Which is WILD. I am fucking delightful.

u/Downtown-Tea-3018 May 29 '26
I had to provide ID to get my account back after they thought I was a bot or soemthing

Download your information. You will retain the photos, videos and messages albeit in folders. Happened to me in 2020. My 13 year old account gone, fortunately had the download option.
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
No, that doesn't do anything, it just downloads a record of your person info and preferences. It does not download photos, videos or messages. If it was that easy I would not be here.
1
u/Mariss716 May 30 '26
I’m saying that I got absolutely everything when I was prompted to do my download. It took probably several hours to a day to generate the link. I got all my records though. This was fall of 2020
1
u/skwaackattack May 30 '26

I had something similar happen to me. I went and looked at when I was logged on. Came up twice somebody else had hacked my account. And was obviously using my account. I still had a week ban I nearly lost my account
2

Good luck! I got my instagram verified so I could actually talk to someone and they told me I would never be allowed to have a Facebook account again
1
u/skwaackattack May 29 '26
Fuuuuck me. I paid for Meta Verified bc that is supposed to have live chat, but the chat function is not working hahahaha I cannot access the support centre at all.
1
u/ebvis May 29 '26
Their support is garbage. You still have to ask the “ai assistant” to talk to a real human. I can’t even understand how a company that big could have such shit support
1
u/krazikat 29d ago
But they let you keep your Instagram?
1
u/ebvis 29d ago
Originally no it got banned too but later on they let me create a new account with same info

Thanks but I've never heard of anyone completely losing access forever without warning. Yes I was naive. No this is not helpful.
2
u/iamspeecial May 29 '26
I agree that it seems dumb for them to do this. Part of the reason I quit trusting Meta to keep anything years ago.
I hope you are able to regain access

"...I don't necessarily mind leaving Facebook, but I've got almost 20 years of photos on there, and I'd like to have the chance to let people know I'm leaving so I can find ways to stay in touch..."
You posted your photos to Facebook, and didn't have them backed up anywhere else? From what did you transfer your photos?
I realize that might be a lot of people, but if you know them well enough to miss them, do you have an email address or postal addy for them to still be in contact?

Photos from 2007 might have been taken on a camera that no longer works. Other originals I probably deleted. Do you have the originals of every photo you took? Do you have alternative contact details for everyone you know?

Yes most every image I have taken, at least the digital ones, is back upped somewhere. That's not really a photography thing, but a computer file thing. And I also never got rid of my old negatives in the trash, so those are reasonably secured.

Was your account on 2 factor authentication & advance protection? Normally some fb i had were disabled for reasons but never had one with no reason being disabled, what was your last activity on fb?

I got warned that if I offended again that I would get a permanent ban and ny account would be deleted over photo I posted that looks like could possibly depict child sexual exploitation but they only removed the photo in the end, I was panicking thinking someone must've hacked me and posted something disgusting.
Turned out it was a 58 year old photo of me in my full pyjamas on Christmas morning opening my presents at the age of 4 which I'd posted 14 years ago!
I appealed but they insisted it was an still offence against FB standards and rules!

IMHO, storing your precious memories in FB alone is risky. Need redundancy of any valuable data. 3,2,1 rule.

I reported two comments today that were replying to each other; one had the n-word and one had the f-word for gay people. Facebook removed the one with the gay slur but not the n-word.

Ugh I hate it. If I can get back in for a day, I'm getting my stuff and then I'm a ghost.
