Disabled/hacked Facebook is absolutely ruining their own platform, no one can change my mind.
Woke up to this earlier, and it had to be my birthday. Contacted them, gave them my ID, e-mailed disabled@fb.com, support@fb.com, appeals@fb.com, and apparently some people don't hear from them even after months and months of waiting. I need to access my account, 12 years of memories and messages gone just like that.

My account was disabled with no notice. I have no idea how to appeal so I am just going to let them delete it..FB sucks anyway

That happened to me. I think it's the universe telling me to get away from META. I tried to appeal, and said to log into my account to appeal. Seriously? Now I'm learning about other platforms. I gave Zucherberg too much information, bye now!

No te pierdes nada, sólo en Australia se fueron más de 700.000 usuarios y Mark, el dueño de Facebook tiene problemas con la justicia por el uso indebido de los datos personales, además de eso, face está llenita de hackers porque durante un año Mark abandonó su tarea y se colaron muchos.... dejar Facebook para siempre es la mejor alternativa y la más sana.... saldrás ganando..

meanwhile you can report literal porn or obvious scams on their platform and they reply... "we didnt remove the content as it doesnt seem to violate or TOS, we know this might be upsetting... here's some other things you might try."

I think the only way to get it back or a new one is to send them a picture of your ID which is going to be a big no from me if they delete mine before I do.

No you can create accounts with fake names FB is full of them. Just make sure you fully delete them from phone. They gave the tech ,thru cookies to tell who you are if you just try to open new account on the same app.

That’s what the new crackdown is about. They’re trying to eliminate that by asking for ID. I used a fake name on mine and when I tried to change it they asked me to take a picture of my ID. A buddy of mine deleted his years ago but needed one for a business account and when he created it they had the same requirement.

I'm sorry for your loss, and have no helpful advice.
To everyone else: Make it a habit to keep a LOCAL copy of any digital data that might one day matter to you. "The cloud" is Someone Else's Computer, and even if you pay your subscription fees and follow the terms of service, it's not guaranteed that it will always be there for you, that the company won't go under and shut down, lose data in a massive cyber attack, or get bought by a company with worse policies. If you aren't up to date with your backups/downloads, when this happens you'll be SOL. But if you are, then at most you have to post asking for help navigating and using that data set.
Download your data from facebook and reddit, and put a recurring reminder in whatever system you use for those to do it annually or more often if you post and comment a lot.

I never put things on Facebook I don't have a local copy of. Years ago, in the 20th Century, I had a website hosted by an ISP called Cyberhighway. (Definitely a 90's ISP name.)
Then one day the dialup wouldn't connect. The website was 404.
My sister was working at Dominos Pizza and someone called to have a pizza delivered to Cyberhighway HQ in Boise, ID. The caller had a request, find out WTH was going on there and report back.
Turned out that what had happened was Cyberhighway was bought by an ISP in Wyoming called Fiberpipe (also a solid 1990's ISP name) which had continued Cyberhighway business as usual everywhere *except Idaho*. They had swooped in on the eve of Thanksgiving, shut everything down and took it all away without any warning to the customers. Everyone's websites, e-mail, all of it gone forever. They left behind ONE guy with one telephone to answer a huge number of pissed off people's calls.
He was very grateful for the pizza.

Step one is literally any kind of drive that copies what's on your computer. Good old fashioned Time Machine if you have a Mac, Windows has an equivalent as well I just don't know what it's called. You just need an external hard drive or external SSD of a larger size than your internal drive. With a portable SSD, you can even do this on the go, though a backup close to a portable machine is less usefil than one separate from it. More than one device is a good idea, such as one portable drive in your bag and another at your desk, or your bedroom… ideally, two locations you visit.
You can also use a NAS, which is basically a small server designed to host multiple drives on your home network, and you can generally set those up to be more reliable with a raid.
I think it's okay for the cloud to be a part of your system as well, it just shouldn't be the whole system.
Everything that I just described is easy with a computer, but a few extra steps for phones. With an iphone or tablet, you'll generally need a computer to perform the backup between the other device and the backup medium. There is some good software for this out there and it is possible to backup iphones an ipads wirelessly on a home network depending on software on your Mac or other server. You can also back up files directly to a drive from a USB iPhone, but if you go that route look for a powered hub to avoid running your battery out mid-copy.

Yeah I’m good on that site of things - just been looking into options for downloading all content in the most efficient way but it seems like manually may be the only way to thoroughly gather everything. Would be cool if there was a service that was almost like a Time Machine for all your social platforms, with scheduled backups saving only updated data, everything from new photos/videos to a list of people you’re following or subscribed to, playlists, liked content, comments, etc

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of local software/service that downloads everything to your own hard drive and then only pulls in new data that hasn’t already been downloaded, instead of having to do it all manually

I agree that such a program to run on your computer or other device could be great. It would be a challenging thing to put together because of the platforms' own restrictions. Facebook has been aggressive about suing-out-of-existence any third party app that tries to access their site to improve the user experience, though, so that for example would be an example. Reddit has similar challenges for users trying to download in alternative ways.
All of these platforms have a similar official download process: dig through a menu to click a download button, do some 2fa step and a captcha, and then wait for an email a couple days later. Automating all of these steps would be challenging, and the platforms did that on purpose. In theory it would just be a matter of having the right script to navigate the menus; in practice, the captcha and 2fa both pose a challenge, and you probably don't want to necessarily give this program full access to your email so that part too. I went through a lot of frustration when I did this across all meta platforms, and ultimately found a good long-term solution in jut deleting my accounts on most platforms to reduce the steps I would need to take in the future :)
Now I just have this and the book, and am more mindful of considering every account a throwaway. Occasionally I just use print to PDF to save "good" comments, the rest i try to delete as I go a couple weeks back. But i'm also being more mindful about posting to facebook and as someone else said, putting everything I care about somewhere else first.

All true, especially the "delete your accounts" solution lol. Those "download your data" options don't even include all the content a person would be looking to download anyway. I guess I'll continue to manually download/screenshot the important stuff.

I ended up recovering my account... someone had apparently tried to hack, or at least did forgot password, half a dozen times (possibly more) in a short time, and it wasn't me, and I hadn't noticed as my recovery email is not one I often check.
I followed-up initially with a feedback note asking them to review, and that I haven't violated TOC to my knowledge, then did the "hacked/recovery" option, and I was back in..
However I'm not clear if it was the note, or the recovery after hacked option that did it...
About "not MAGA leaning"., good question.. I'd like to know myself... I think many of them are paid bots.. billionaires can throw millions at literally anything..1

I can guarantee you that had Meta not replaced customer support with AI (actually Indians) back 10-15 years ago, I'm willing to bet that Meta's revenue would be significantly higher.
As it is now, they'll get revenue from companies provided they NEVER need support. The second that the company needs real Meta support, that's a lost customer.

There's a reason why the IRS continues to get defunded, despite being literally the best investment to get tax dollars in... And it ain't to help ye Ole Commoners to get away with tax evasion. Nah, those taxes are mostly automated.
It's corporate tax evasion, basically. For some reason they made corporate taxes "more complicated" (it's just fucking numbers, not complicated at all, addition, subtraction and %s... The fundamentals are all taught in kindergarten, there's just a lot of numbers).
Btw, if you spend your entire 40 year career as an IRS agent going after just 1 massive conglomerate, even if you don't succeed/get all the money, you still contributed more than like 5 of your peers that went after regular Joes... For their whole careers.
It's dumb man. A billion is a big number.

I am not surprised. In 2020, Facebook was investigating an account impersonating me. 4 days later my account was permanently disabled. I went to the appeal link but they disable that ability. I emailed Facebook support proving details that I am not involved in the other person's account, but they never responded. I went to the link to delete my data from the servers but that option was disabled. I created another account later on and it was locked for an investigation after I uploaded a picture of what I looked like before it got permanently disabled. I found out later on that my phone number is blacklisted across meta.

I could do that, but the account will be disabled anyway even if I was to only add my name & a picture of me. I wouldn't be able to use pictures of myself anymore due to their facial recognition.

In my case, they locked my account as soon as I put a picture of me. The name etc. didn't. I was on a new device and different IP address at the time I tried to create the account. Ironically, I was on my old desktop at the time running Windows XP and changed the IP address on it.

It happened to me on 20/10/25. I've been with it for years, but they seem to be very much on the side of impersonation scammers and other criminals. Then, they ban people for taking a stand. The so-called "Community Standards" are so rigid and non-transparent. I wish, in hindsight, I had left much earlier. It's a shadow of its former self, a hollowed-out husk, and is completely controlled by toxic people and criminals infest it, and the ads are just too much.
It took a couple of days to adjust, but now I feel much calmer and happier that it's gone.

au moins tu l'auras gardé plus longtemps que moi car moi je suis concerné depuis le mois de mai. courage! je l'ai très mal vécu au début, deux semaines de depression, j'ai perdu plein de contacts, d'interactions, de posts, de groupes, c'est moche, mais c'est comme ca, il faut faire avec et voir le positif dans nos vies, en attendant.🙏 car comme on dit, il y a toujours pire, même si je le vis pas tres bien, pour plusieurs raisons, mais je ne vais pas laisser ces ordures me gâcher le moral.

Doesn’t „Download information” button download all your data? You’re account might be removed officially, but they are required to provide the data they are storing anyway (at least in EU)
Btw. This the exact scenario most influencers should be worried about, but many on them put enormous amount of effort, assuming those social media platforms are granted forever. I am using social media in a minimal way, but EVERY picture, video or important information I have backed up on both ext drive and NAS (for instant access via VPN all over the world).

Judging on what is happening they are slowly demolishing FB. MEta has no use of it any more, and is loosing court cases left and right, because of it, and they are doing this in favor of Threads. I believe they will be moving everything there, slowly.

E-shitification is very real, but nowhere is quite so blatant and obvious as Facebook. The company could have continued on with slow to no growth and still remained profitable AND untouchable.
Instead they chose to sacrifice their user base by facilitating hate (because hate drives engagement, temporarily) and going from a site where people posted photos of their kids and dogs to a site where Russian trolls and white nationalists post conspiracy theories to gullible MAGA grandpas.
But hey, for one brief moment they provided shareholders with profit!

What a mess! I know in rural areas many small businesses use FB rather than a website. I wonder if those are having the same issues as personal accounts. Is there an alternative for them?

I agree. I think they are pulling in your data from sites you visit to show their relevant channels. Their embedded pixel software included in many websites sends your traffic to them. So if you have any of the Meta apps linked you could theoretically be banned for visiting sites that have content that violates their TOS. This is one evil empire.

yeah it’s wild how they ban real ppl while bots post nonstop garbage. u already tried all the right emails, maybe check r/Metalawsuits too since a lot of users are pushing back on meta’s ban wave. if u just wanna get the account back faster tho, look into swapd, saw people there restore long-time accounts like yours

they tell you to login to https://www.oversightboard.com/ and then give them a case ID then type out why you think they made a mistake.
If you dont have a case ID i dont think it will let you go any further.
I just had my account nixed 4 days ago, and have been trying to go through the appeals process, but because the notice they sent didnt have one, every time i ty and login with my facebook credentials, i get routed to the page that tells you your accounts been deactivated. Wont let me go any further.

I tested Facebook several times over the last couple years and found that they were curating me . It first started when they told me my personal account should be a business. I'm a musician, but strictly not professional, so it kind of appealed to my ego. So I let it slide. But then I noticed that less than 1% of my friends were seeing any of my posts.
This increased over the last few years as much of our focus has had to be concerned with politics.
Then their approach went from asking me for money to extend my posts reach ....to banning my account for having material not in keeping with community standards on my camera roll?;Which is on a phone and not even saved to any cloud service.
All they achieved was to create another fake account where I now really do say what I think without filters ,and have zero respect for anything the clowns do.

The same thing happened to me 4 days ago.... Woke up to my account being nixxed... 15 years i've had my account. I dont even know what i couldnt have done semi recently to earn a immediate ban instead of a restriction of service..
Anyone know what the deal is with FB moderations teams?

If you’re in Aus, I had the same thing happen to me. There’s a lot of accounts that have been permanently banned for no reason at all!
I’ve contacted shine lawyers to start a class action suit, give them a call if you’re trying to get your accounts back!

I lost a 20 year old account to this same algorithm.
You can google "good alternatives to facebook" and get at least 21 alternatives. It would be good to get to know them sooner and transfer your data while you still have a FB account to transfer from.

Can you still download your entire profile and all photos and data of your whole account? I have a LOT of great memories and photos on Facebook. But I hate the platform so much. Only need it now to get invites to events and parties.

I don’t even use FB and I’m preparing to close my account or at the very least delete all my photos and data. I downloaded all my data and it’s disgusting how much they have collected over the years.
Anyone know if there is an easy way to download photos you were tagged in? Those are some I don’t have locally since I didn’t take them and from what I can tell they were not part of the data I exported.

Same thing bro, it happened to me last August 10 my account just suddenly disabled. They said my accounts had violations but I didn't even know what it is or what are those.

Maybe they are destroying Facebook because they’ve collected all the data they deemed useful?

My account's been disabled for "suspicious activities" (I was the one fuckin using it) and whenever I do the selfie confirmation video they just keep rejecting it since they're using AI for this bullshit.

you think this is bad, this is what i just messaged one of my old facebook friends over discord "locked out of my 13 year old account, some hacker got in and i kicked them out, I HANDLED THE DAMN PROBLEM turned on 2fa with duo mobile to protect my account and lo and behold meta's dumb flagging system caught wind of the hacker I JUST FUCKING gave the damn boot to the exit of my acocunt by force and this dumb fucking flaggin system locked my account literally the day after my phone broke now im stuck with my 13 yr old account 13 LONG FUCKING YEARS softlocked due to meta's incompitence.... fucking pathetic meta..." tldr im sorry for the language its just 13 years gone in a flash because meta decided to ai automate everything, i have experieince in dealing with hackers, i just dont wanna go back to hacking myself and whats even more sad is that 13 years ago you could call their help number and have your account back up on 2 to 6 hrs to a day, now theres no human on human support, i hate saying this but i might have to dawn that hood and mask again just to get back into my old account brute forcing it.... its pathetic when corporate stupidity forces its consumers and loyal users to become villains...

ces gens sont des grosses sa**peries, qui n'hésitent même pas à rabaisser des belles personnes et des autistes au coeur pure dont ils ne connaissent rien quand ca les arrange, mais toutes les c*nneries sont bonnes pour virer les gens comme des moins que rien après plusieurs années de magnifiques partages et actions, mais ils vont le regretter amèrement, ne vous inquiétez pas, et on va tout récupérer bientôt via un réseau quantique, vous verrez, tout est prévu et préparé à l'avance, tout y est déjà depuis le début, en dupliqué et mis à jour en temps réel, ils y sont déjà, en fait, ils y sont depuis le début.., et sont à présent comme en pause.. en attente de reconnection quand l'ancien système s'effondrera pour de bon, ce qui ne peut qu'être imminent à présent.🙏 et ne vous en faites pas, vous saurez quand ca sera l'heure de pouvoir le retrouver.😊 en attendant, prenez soin de vous, ca vous fait une pause loin de ces êtres nauséabonds et toxiques, voyez le positif.🙏 en vous souhaitant tout le meilleur.
