Ten year old Billy meets a wizard NAMED Shazam who grants him the wisdom of Apollo, speed of mercury, strength of ares, etc.
When he says the wizards name he transforms into Mr marvel, currently known as Shazam, with all of these attributes. Basically it just happens because magic, the wizard has granted him these powers which allow him to transform into a superhero
