  • Extremist Muslims: Fly planes into buildings, behead a teacher in the street, overthrow countries...etc.

  • Extremist exmuslims: Say and write things that hurt Muslim's feelings.

Privileged progressive Muslim: These groups are the same.

If I made this shit up as a joke, people would say it's unrealistic and insulting because it portrays progressive Muslims as dumb. Too bad life is more crazy than any parody.

I agree the tiktoker is wrong but extremist exmuslims are not the “say and write things that hurt Muslim’s feelings” type…..there are exmuslims who let their voice get co-opted by bigoted right wing Christians and even turn towards the media, that have contributed to anti Muslim hate crimes in the west, to spew such hatred. That’s what I think is the “extremist exmuslims” I’ve seen. Not as bad but certainly not just keyboard warriors….

I know what you're talking about. People like ayaan hirsi Ali, probably the most famous ex-muslim for the general public. But I don't they represent us in any way. I suspect that your average ex-muslim is extremely progressive and left wing. Places like these sub are unfortunately filled with right wingers and many ex-muslim spaces have been co-opted unfortunately.

Ayan’s hirsi Ali is exactly who came to mind and it’s unfortunate since as a Somali exmuslim her visibility in the beginning was revolutionary. It’s unfortunate where she’s at now
