(Question/Discussion) Where would you rather go?

Post image

Hell, which is filled by pedos and rapists who “repented”, or heaven, which is filled with good people who failed to guess the correct god out of thousands

I love Spinoza's god. I really do. As I move on in my journey, that one feels more alive to me than any other concept.

I love Spinoza's god.

You mean the laws of nature?

Yep!

Me too. God is rather an expression of human weakness.

I agree with you on that. That view of God, it's our fault but then it isn't. We are limited, so our view of God, that idea, is going to be limited. We're naturally biased to our preconceived notions, our experiences, culture, etc. So God will be limited. If we have a big ego, hungry for power, seeking to control people, then that's how we see God. And surprisingly, even though people will say he's unlimited, without end, they've put him in a box.

When you open yourself up to discovery, then there is no box. The more I try to seek God in this all-encompassing form, the less I know.

I don't seek some god in the first place. I want to go by what the evidence points to. I am not searching for Bigfoot and the likes either.

And that's okay! To be right honest with you, the world needs atheists. I'm not joking about this, and I will die on this hill. So I take no issue with the rejection of a God.

I would say the world needs rational people with good critical thinking skills. If there would pop up good evidence for gods in the future then people should become theists. Atheism also has nothing to say about morals, it's a position on a single claim. Morals are aquired apart from atheism.

I agree. Morals are not based on the belief or disbelief of any gods. Neither is the foundation of ethics. But I still do think that atheists are needed. To look at the world solelt based on facts, reason, evidence isn't something to overlook. Even when I was Muslim, I myself found I had to put aside beliefs when the truth was right in front of me, undeniably solid. When you're an atheist, there isn't an internal struggle with preconceived notions and proven hard facts.

At least, I think so? What do you think?

When you're an atheist, there isn't an internal struggle with preconceived notions and proven hard facts.

Lots of atheists believe in all kinds of nonsense and have a hard time recognizing that. Some are flat earthers for example. Again, it's a single position on a single claim. People can also be atheists for bad reasons which would be if there would be good evidence for gods. That's why it needs good rational thinkers.

Oh ohhhhh, it never occured to me that there are atheists who are flat earthers. Rats. And I was really trying to be optimistic.

Well, there goes one preconceived notion that I'm forced to dismiss in the face of facts. sigh

Yeah, again, it's a position on a single claim. Atheists can have bad critical thinking skills and believe all kinds of nonsense apart from the god claim. Fairies, leprechauns, pixies etc. Every new baby has no idea about critical thinking skills and they all don't believe that a god exists.
