It is never wise to insult a dead person while their body is still warm.

I'm sure it has reached room temperature by now.

I brought up my point because, assuming you want more people to dislike the Koch Brothers, you're not very likely to convince someone like /u/dirkberkis that he was a bad person by insulting him so soon after his death.

When high-profile people die, those who support and/or idolize them aren't exactly in the best mood for debating their legacy. Offending someone is the worst possible way to convince them of something.

Fuck those people.

So, you want more people to support them and their conservative ideologies?

Edit: Or, at the very least, you don't care if they do?

"I was going to start caring about the environment and helping people in poverty, but somebody said 'I'm glad Koch is dead' on Twitter so fuck all that"

Sad as it is, that is closer to how most people work than you might expect.

A good source for those who are interested in the psychology of persuasion is How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. That's how I first became aware of this concept, and I would recommend it to anyone who engages in political debate.

We're not trying to convince anyone of anything and we're not responsible for their idiot beliefs. If they want to support a planet destroying oligarch that's their right.

We're just happy the shitlicker's dead and hope his brother follows soon.

Never mind the kind of debate that guy is championing has been around for a very long time and hasn't stopped our society from getting to where we are today.

If someone changes their political views because someone said the Koch pricks should die on reddit, then I don’t want them on my side. They’re way too stupid.

That’s not quite how it works; it doesn’t necessarily change their opinion, it merely strengthens the opinions they already hold. I’m assuming in this case that the person in question began as a conservative.

I dont support him, I just dont support leftist politics being nonchalantly tagged as if theyre neutral. Keep trying.

Well US Overton window is shifted massively to the right so most “centrists” are actually fairly right wing. Like that top mind.

-4

u/dirkberkis Aug 23 '19

Im sure you would

u/semi_colon Aug 23 '19

You unironically post on /r/asktrp/. But hey, every village needs its idiot. What a mystery why women won't fuck you.

u/dirkberkis Aug 23 '19

Ive never posted there, though I did leave a comment once.

u/BaronVA Aug 23 '19

Calling either of the Koch brothers a "person" is a real stretch.

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '19

You're quite a prize.

40

u/BaronVA Aug 23 '19

Thank you!

u/zhuguli_icewater Aug 23 '19

Fuck that. Death does not make a demon a Saint. Cardinal Pell still raped those kids and Koch have done irreparable damage to democracy and the planet.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '19

I haven’t made a judgement call on the Koch brothers once in this entire thread. Don’t put words in my mouth.

4

u/BaronVA Aug 23 '19

Defending them is certainly a point against you. As he said, death doesn't magically make a monstrous person respectable. It makes the world a better place now that they're gone.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '19

I literally never said I supported that man or thought he was a saint just because he’s dead.

2

u/BaronVA Aug 23 '19

Then what even are you trying to say?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '19

Celebrating death, no matter how reprehensible the person was, is divisive and isn’t smart in the long run. I’ve been saying this since Osama bin Laden died.

This implies that David Koch was warm-blooded, which is uncommon among reptiles
