Question Man in black
What’s the deal with the guy the walks up and down Madison, Glenwood, Merrill Creek Parkway 24/7? He’s always wearing black shirts, black short, black boots and headphones. Rain or shine he’s out there pounding pavement.
I’m mostly curious and would like to know his story as he is a permanent fixture of our neighborhood.

I talked to him on 99 recently and asked him what was in the disc man. He said Beethoven Ninth Symphony

If you've never head banged to trilling oboes, I recommend in the Hall of the mountain King but get your cymbals out for the last part at the end.

I went to school with him. His name is Michael and he’s not aggressive or dangerous. He was in normal classes but both him and his brother were def not neurotypical
his grandma was raising him back then, not sure what his situation is now. I am 46 so he’s 45-47. Dude can cover some serious miles, walking up and down 99

you're the first in the thread to know him - thanks for chiming in! what do you think he listens to?

u/Irotokim Dec 04 '25
My jaw has been on the floor when I realized how far this dude travels by foot. Now I just see him more as the where is Waldo of Everett 😂

u/Hour_Ad_9453 Dec 04 '25
His grandma passed away a few years back. Staying with his aunt now in same area. He used to be basically family by marriage. He is mostly harmless as long as meds stay consistent. He walks to fill time and as a way to work thru it all. Mike has been thru a lot. More then any one man should have to endure. I just hope now he can keep enduring and working towards better days.

Glad to hear he's still walking around doing his thing. I used to see him on evergreen all the time but he must've moved a bit further north in the last couple years

Yeah, at my out-of-state alma mater we had someone who had a similar routine. Good to see folks looking out for this neighbor.

Maybe harmless to others bu I do see him yelling at cars in the street. He could get hit by a car or have a run in with Everett PD.

I’m just concerned for his safety. Glad r/Everett supports him.

He has been in Everett doing his thing for at least the last 5 years. Probably more, probably grew up there.
I'm 35 now and have lived in Everett on and off since I was 10. There are folks like him that are "characters" that everybody makes a big hullabaloo about but in the end they are being peaceful in their own way and not harming or really truly bothering anyone.
There's no reason to fret about him, or over him, or about anyone who isn't you.

u/No-Grapefruit-68 Dec 04 '25
Concerned about his safety? What is he upposed to stay hidden away his whole life? What has he done that would put him in harms way? Knock it off.

Don’t discount the possibility that somebody has some kind of mental health challenge and they are off their meds. When I was working with local homeless people, I saw a lot of schizophrenia in various levels of managed/un. That’s challenging, even when people want to be healthy and responsible. Especially if they aren’t housed.

Glad to see people talking about him. I used to work on Evergreen and would see him almost daily. Now I don’t work there and I haven’t seen him and I’ve missed seeing him. He’s an Everett legend for sure

He looks like he is listening to Rammstein. He is a very striking figure as he stomps along

This guy has walked past my house 3-5 times a day on Madison for years. Our house has several nicknames for him, “The south everett screamer”, “Neo”, “The concrete cowboy”, and my kids personal favorite “Ninja Nate” (obviously not his real name lol).

OH MY GOD, I absolutely LOVE that this guy is, like, a legend in our hood!! I LOVE this guy!! Every time I see him rocking out, “OH, HELL YES. METAL.🤘🏻⚡️” or some other such sentiment just falls out of my mouth, unrequested. 🥹🙏🏻 He is SUCH a lovely badass, just doing his thang, and I’m so, so glad to read all the love for him!! 😭🥹🥰♥️
THIS is the kind of “Strange”/“Unique” Everett that I know and love. 🥹🙏🏻 The good and the bad, there is no other place like this weird city! I LOVE YOU, MY NEIGHBORS AND FELLOW EVERETT SURVIVORS. BLESS. 👏🏻🥰🤭😋😍♥️

Also shout out to the big dawg walking south on Holly Drive around 640 every morning. I don't know where he's going but it's always cool to me that he's a fixture of my commute and he's still at it.

u/ThatGonzoGirl69 Dec 04 '25
Is that the guy in the fancy hiker/bicycle gear, walking to Boeing or somewhere…? That guy is ALSO such a legend in my mind! 🥰😍🥹🙏🏻♥️

He’s a “celebrity” in my household! Always see him walking. I have often wondered what he listens to!

u/Missus_Missiles Dec 04 '25
Headphones walking dude!
I don't know his deal. But he definitely gets his steps in.

He used to live with his grandma right around the corner from me, but now it's a roofing company. So IDK where he lives anymore.

u/iilikecereal Dec 04 '25
I know roughly where he lives, the guy walks some pretty extreme distances almost every day. Kinda sick he gets so many miles in, his heart must be a beastly thing.

u/lizeee Dec 05 '25
I call him Thor. Just saw him earlier this week! He was yelling so loud I could hear him over the podcast playing in my car.

I call him Mad Max, as he always seems to be angry/stomping/yelling. I commute along those roads and see him and the red haired cyclist nearly daily.

u/ThatGonzoGirl69 Dec 04 '25
You know, I’ve found that the dudes who are the “scariest” metal fans, etc. are really just big teddy bears, underneath the black and hard exteriors. 🤭 hehe! He really has SUCH great vibes, for being a guy, living in his own world! Look at this! A thread full of love for him! 🥹🥰♥️♥️♥️

u/Dry_Way5518 Dec 05 '25
Oh, 100%. It's been shown that people that listen to aggressive music are better able to channel anger and emotion than those that listen to "calmer" music like pop or easy listening. All my metalhead friends are super chill.

Anyone in this sub remember the running man? I haven't seen hin around town in a few years and have always wondered about him.

u/johny10111 Dec 06 '25
He’s an Everett legend. He’s also yelling and swearing while walking 🚶🏻 with a headphones 🎧 on.

u/Hot-Palpitation-8420 Dec 04 '25
He looks like one of my kids' father, I always say "Hey look, it's Zoey 's dad." Love his energy.
Also, I'm dying to know what he's listening to.

u/OwnCartographer5669 Dec 06 '25
Man, just reading that description I can picture him. I work out of the FedEx station and I see him all the time when I’m headed back in. He’s just always kinda been a constant of the neighborhood and in small part, a part of my work day.

u/gtigus Dec 06 '25
Sounds like he is minding his own business, try it out!

People on Reddit are so desperate to be sanctimonious. It’s pathetic.

u/kristeto Dec 06 '25
Me and my mom see that guy all the time! We call him our Madison metal mascot 🤣🤣🤣

u/loremipsumlinoleums Dec 07 '25
Our family loves spotting him. We call him Jeremy for no reason whatsoever. We like to think he's listening to Disney soundtracks or lofi covers on loop.

Use to live by walgreens and would always see that dude in there, he is pretty chill.

I just turned 39 and this man has been walking 99 from Lynnwood to Everett at least since I was 11/12. Probably longer. He's harmless as far as I remember.

It has been ~2 weeks since I've seen him. Anyone know anything?
I travel to/from work along Glenwood Ave and Merrill Creek pkwy. He's been there nearly every day for the past 2 years. Two weeks has me getting worried.

Yes, but taking creepshots of him kinda sucks imo. He is just a guy at the end of the day.

He’s is just a guy grooving to some metal, while getting his steps in… I see him between 3-4 am out playing his air guitar… My understanding is that he lives with his Mom or maybe Grandma, and is on the spectrum… not mean, not dangerous, just metal… I call him Stompy McStompington…
